If we could warp a 400 person fleet, complete with frigates, cruisers, battleships, dreads, carriers, motherships, and titans to a POS where another 400 person fleet was waiting to defend it, complete with frigates, cruisers, battleships, dreads, carriers, motherships, and titans.. And we could have a massive battle that would last 2 or 3 hours, and the amount of carnage that would be unleashed would be exponential, the finanical losses would be in the hundreds of billions, and it would be a true turning point in a war for whoever won and whoever lost.
Big battles like that have to happen in Wars. Are they the only that happen? Of course not, but their a part of it. They set the tone, affect morale, and just cause more general damage and destruction that the small raids that will continue to happen on the off hour. There need to be small skirmishes, and there needs to be full scale battles. Just like any war that has ever been conducted in history.
Of course, this will never ever happen. A good small skirmish is the best most of us old dogs can even hope for these days. Even 'small' 30 on 30 battles have a tendency to lag so bad, that pilot skill is a completely moot point.
You want excitement back in the game? Then tell CCP to spend the next year doing nothing but concentrating their efforts on making the server handle ANYTHING the player base can throw at it. Screw new content, screw planetary flight, new ships, constellation sovreignity, and factional warfare. All I want to be able to do, is play the game however I want to play it. If I have 900 friends in battleships that want to accompany me on an invasion of feythabolis, I should be able to do it, without fear of 'breaking the server'. Make the game where whatever we want to do, we CAN do again, and you'll see myself and alot more old timers get themselves back into EVE like we were in 2003 and 2004.. when you introduced this masterpiece of a game to the world.
Of course, it'll never happen. I highly doubt the technology even exists.. and if it did, those of us in the alliances are still the minority of the playerbase.. until the empire dwelling, mission running, majority start cancelling their accounts in droves, nothing will ever change.. and us old dogs that live out on the rim, that have given this game it's excitement for the past 3 years, will continue to fade away.
