Encountered an bb today - Had no problem killing him with my bs but he claimed that his ecm was out of range and there for loosing th battle.... Is there a counter attack on ecm or how do i defend myself against it??

ECM is just as far as your target range allows.
So unless he was 80km from you, it sounds like crap.
To defend yourself u need to raise your grav/ mag radar amount, low slot boosters and med slot boosters are available for both.

ECM is just as far as your target range allows.
So unless he was 80km from you, it sounds like crap.
To defend yourself u need to raise your grav/ mag radar amount, low slot boosters and med slot boosters are available for both.

Ecm being outa range?! Thats the worst excuse ive heard considering target jamming modules have a range equal to your max targeting range, and if he's in a BB he can sure as hell keep in range, unless you had a MWD and kept at a nice distance of like 60km+ from him.
Warp / Prop jammers have various ranges but wouldnt effect his ability to kill you. They just stop you from running away, and sensor dampners also have a range equal to the max targeting range.
I do believe that has to be a lame excuse for being blown up.
To counter it -
ECCM Modules / Warp core stabilizers / FoF cruise missiles / Drones + good tactics.

I was only like 15 km away from him so i thought it sounded wierd - It could be that my projectiles kicked his ass that did the trick

The BB pilot was probably relying on 10km webifiers ... must be a BB pilot with similar ECM/ECCM knowledge that the battleship pilot ;)

I know what you are saying guys, about ppl not knowing a great deal about a certain area.
But, it can also work against u, i seem to find myself thinking about EVERYTHING that could happen. It messes with your mind, does he have this fitted and that fitted .
what if hes using 4 scramblers, just to catch me, while his friends warp in.
Of course im just messing. sometimes just get stuck in, and maybe u will lose ships. if u are pvp-ing u should at the very least be able to insure it.
the fun is finding out for yourself, and when you arnt afraid to lose ships, thats when the fun starts.

This is the low down on ECM and ECCM okie
ECM the ability to jam your opponent. For this you need to use modules that lower his sensor strength. For my scorpion this means you need to lower my Gravi. Problem here for you is that I run sometimes 4 ECCM modules in low slots. This boosts my standard gravi from 16 base to 22. You wont know this until you try and jam me :) I also sometimes run an ECCM1 in a med slot which gives me a further 3 to this for 25 base Gravi!
So say you jam me anyway as you are running like 6 ECM multisepctrals at -4 each for a total jamming strenght of 24. I am only running with say 2 ECCM low slot boosters to gravi giving me 20 base as they are 2 each.
Trouble is I usually run with 5 kapteyn sensor arrays! Sometimes 6 so I can take on two ships at once. Each one will drop your target range by -58% and increase your lock time by about +50% so you start out with your shiney BB with a targeting range of say 90km and you lock me and manage to jam me up nice! Not so nice as I activate my kaptyns back and your lock range drops to around 4km with 5 running ouch.
There is a timing issue here because if you jam me first Im screwed. (you need to be fast with jamming) and as such I have Sig anal at lvl 5 and run with 2 F90 for a lock time of 1 second. You lose your lock as my kaps kick in and reduce your target range. I warp jam you and web you and launch 4 torps and fire up my two tachs and in 45 secs your dead :) depending on your range at the start.

There is NO viable defense against Kapteyns or Muons apart from running many F90s which are very rare unless your me and I have 7 he he. You would need to run 5 F90s to counter this setup above and no-one takes up med slots with 5 F90s. Jamming is an art and if you come across a ship that knows what he is doing your toast :)
My daily setup alters all the time epspecially if I know who I am hunting I give thought to what they might be running and equip to counter it.
PS
There are loads of players who dont understand PvP or indeed ECM and ECCM that fly BB ships. Finding out your crap when you lose your ship is not the time to learn however :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think a passive targeter works even when you are jammed, so use the passive to lock whoever is jamming you, then use the sensor dampeners...
Not tested but should work in theroy...
