Because none of the content is dated or hardly any and that makes the magazine a fun resource for most and even valuable (content wise) for others.
Plus making it free is hardly fair to people who support the magazine by buying it in the first place.
Sure if they decide not to reprint (which would be lame) then give us the content in html format or whatever as long as we have access to the content. ----------------------------------------------- The BIG Lottery |

I'd like to get all the issues but your current payment method of credit card only really sucks...
Make it so I can pay it the same as my subscription to the game and I would subscribe and buy all the past issues I could get!

As 'm still waiting for my copy of EON #4 which allegedly shipped 24 august, but has not arrived yet, I don't think I'll be buying any other copies anytime soon.
Strange thing is I do not seem to be the only one waiting for a very long time for their delivery.

I got a issue #001 allready It's prestine and I whould like to keep the value as high as I can. I do not support a general reprint of it. Where is the next step? Well we did it ones so we might as well do it again.
No I do not belive in that. Release it on the web and let them read it there. However you look at it. If you release a reprint it will deflate the value of the original. The diffrence is just how much you deflate it.
This is presicely why I bought the first print. I knew then that it whould be a very sought after commodity. And to the ones who wasn't around when it was released. Well I don't get the same skillpoint as the guys who first started. I understand that and I respect it. If you want a issue #001 you should buy an original one. Not just a replica.

Wow. I've got 3 issues of EON #1, as well as 2, 3, 4, and a years subscription.
:Gazes over at his stack of magazines:
I wonder what it's worth? I'd never sell one of the ones that I only have a single copy of, but I've 2 extra of #1...
:Strokes chin:
EDIT- I've also gotta say, I absolutely love the magazines. I cannot WAIT for issue #5.

Edited by: Corto on 05/09/2006 12:08:25 I think you should prioritize in making issue #5 (and following...) at least 50% cheaper.
I bought #4 as a trial and really liked it. However the contents were too limited to warrant 18$ (incl. shipping).
It seems to me the paper quality is too high (in itself an advantage if not for the cost) and must be one of the causes of the high production cost. I myself see EON as a magazine which loses its value as the contents become outdated. Most on this thread seem to see it as a collector's item and actually believe that it is worth real money, increasing in value with old age (has anyone actually bought one at a higher than normal price???).
Now, if you absolutely want to do something "special", what I personally would prefer is to select the best articles out of 1-4, update them and combine them in a sort of "strategy guide" or something. Maybe combined with some extra's?

I don't know who's more typical, me or Corto, but I like the high-quality paper of the magazine. I think it was Zap who said that EON is supposed to be a distinct hard-copy experience, and I don't mind paying a few extra kronurs for that. Even people who know nothing about EVE are drawn to look at EON when they see it on my desk.
One vote for keeping the current quality.

Well I must admit that I ordered EON#4 prior to resubbing. Reading the magazine wasn't a decisive factor, but indeed it's quality did impress me.
But in my corp nobody is willing to fork out 18$ for this (very good and nice looking) magazine. However they all insisted I bring my issue to next week's EVE-corp-LAN. If the price would be lower, they might buy the issue themselves instead of reading my issue. It's the economic law of diminishing returns being compensated by higher sales volume. In any case, all i hope is they will make an effort to diminish the outrageous price.

Honestly, $18 doesn't seem that "outrageous" to me, especially since EON only comes out quarterly. Even under the horrible minimum wage here in the US and after tax, $18 is about four hours labor. That's 1.3 hours per month to get EON.
Plus, even a typical mass-market magazine like Vanity Fair is $4.50, and EON doesn't take cash from advertisers to offset costs. (AFAIK.)
Maybe I'm just a sucker for the sheer reading beauty of EON. I didn't invent the description of the Levenger catalog as "**** for readers", but I surely agree with it. EON is just nice to hold and look at, especially in a field where almost everything else is online.
In any case, EON's price will drop as more people subscribe, and by the time it goes monthly -- hint hint! -- I would expect it will be about half of the current price.

I'd much rather you guys spent a few minutes adding the fiction to the website than reprinting the magazine. I like EON, but I don't like that a large group of people is apparently permanently denied some of the Eve background story, especially as the last 18 months have been as dry as a desert when it comes to chronicles. 87 chronicles, only 4 of which have been released in the last year...and those were written by players anyway. |

btw i still want my full page interview hehe

Meh, the price is fine. High quality glossy magazines sell for similar prices (not counting the postage).
The mag is more then worth it's price. Besides this discussion was supposed to be for feedback about reprinting #1. Whilst on that topic, where is it??? ----------------------------------------------- The BIG Lottery |
