No. Reprints are wrong. Hard luck - if you didn't subscribe from the getgo or weren't around then.
What next extra SP's for those that have only just joined EVE and feel left out because they haven't been playing (suffering) since 2003 ..

Even if you print a large REPRINT on them, it does make the first edition kinda worthless in every respect.
It's indeed as m00 said, what next? Free sp for newcomers?

This is a game, not a bloody investment oppertunity! SP are an ingame benefit, a totally different matter then a magazine outside of the game. CCP forbids the buying/selling of ISK, whether that is to keep a balance to the game or because they don't see any profit in it. The same goes for the magazine, why should certain people make a profit of others while CCP doesn't see a penny of it? I would find it extremely objectionable if the asocial ingame practices bleed out of the game into the 'real' world, they belong in game. EON is a magazine, not a collectible, if it is, soething went horribly wrong during the marketing campaign, because that point didn't come across to a lot of us...

Reprinting will have little to no effect on the "rarity" on the first edition. Collectors will still value the original with as much "personal" value it would have had before the reprint. Thus, they will pay accordingly if they are truly a collector and not someone that wants toilet reading material.
CCP could make millions of reprints and still it would do nothing.

Edited by: Sir Erighan on 02/09/2006 16:24:58 Nothing went horrible wrong...it was a magazine and only that. The ability for any item to become a collectible is entirely up to the person wanting that item and how readily available it is. Do you think Playboy first starting printing their magazines with the assumption they would be a collectible? However, I'm sure there are thousands of people that would consider the first issue to be a collectible.

I could care less about the collectible status of EON #1. And at $175, you can bet I won't be the one to buy it from a collector either. What I want is the information contained within the mag, even if the information is becoming a bit long in the tooth, some of it is still useful. Change the cover, put a reprint on it, do what it takes to maintain the collectible value of EON#1, but make the information available to those that didn't get a chance to get it the first time. And yes, I would buy a reprint.

I've bought E-ON 1 & 2 but i've been unable to buy any more, site continuasly refuses to acept credit cards or mbnet, mine and from a few friends that have also tried. CCP and the magazine publisher would ALSO do a nice work in solving the problem preventing the purchase of the magazines. I've e-mail CCP and the publisher but besides of one answer saying they are looking in to it i've been unable to buy issue 3 and 4 right from the day issue 3 was put on sale, even retrying frequently. I'm writing this since i dont want to: "want to spend crazy amounts of money to complete a set?" having to buy them on e-bay or something

EON is just a magazine to me, i have many times wondered if i should jump on the wagon and purchase a subscription, but like many i would like to read all the issues in chronological order.
I have visited the EVE store a few times, looking for a pack of every issue to date, maybe combined with a subscription for future issues.
I have also always wondered why i can't just pay for a Premium EVE subscription including things like the EON magazine, and other stuff that does not give me an advantage in-game.
If you make it possible for me to order all issues of EON online, i think i will do it now, i will even make a subscription for future issues, because i hear this is a good magazine with good articles.
If you make this reprint issue worse than the original, well, you make me feel a less valued customer, you can put "reprint no:1 at date" where you put all the other technical info, normally on the back page or page 2, i will have no problems, but plastering it all over the front page, you make this item a collectors item, not a magazine, who's whole purpose is to bring stories to readers, as many readers as possible.
So stop listening to all the 'i was first' rabble, issue reprints where need is, or stop calling EON a magazine.
Then again, you could also do a lottery type thing...

I know this could be too expensive to carry off, but how about a collected version? By that i mean, issues 1-4 in one volume? It could be a yearly thing.
Just a thought.

Only thing that's stopped me from subscribing is because I wouldn't have issue 1. So I'd be quite happy with a reprint.

Since when does the definition of a magazine include the ability to purchase old issues in order to read articles before your time
If like you claim EON is just a magazine .. then how about you just subscribe from the current issue and read that
The very argument made by many here that they will only subscribe in the future if they can get all the older publications too simply vindicates the fact that EON #001 (in particular) is a most prized collectors item.

Whine if you must that suddenly your "elite" status is a little less. I will gladly purchace a reprint so I can read the material in E-ON #1.
For those saying this is like giving extra SP to people who are coming on now, that's silly. No one is asking you to give up your "I was here since beta! I was here first!" title. If the prospect of some people reading a magazine out of print makes you feel that insecure, then you have larger issues.

Why wouldn't there be a pdf version? I care about the information, not about the way it is brought. Eventually, some smart soul (maybe not so smart since it's illegal in most countries) will scan the magazines and publish them on the internet. Why shouldn't CCP pro-actively offer the magazines in their online shop? Maybe there should be a watermark hidden inside the pdf so it can't get reproduced on paper to make it look like the original.
BTW: you collectors who say that reprint will destroy the value of the #1 issue. I don't agree: if I were a collector, I would like to have the reprint too.... --- I'm not as bad-ass as some of my corp mates, but I'll pwn you anyway!

Ok quit teasing us, reprint now!!! Print on demand FTW!
As someone else said before I'm not after it for the collectability, I want the content (read insiders guide to trading part 1).
Just change the cover or something, just leave the quality (glossy ftw) intact. Do it in such a way that #1 remains a collectors item, but allow us to have the content in the same enjoyable format and quality that the other magazines did.
For those that never saw an EON issue, order one to test it out and you'll find yourself reading all night instead of playing. It's awesome. ----------------------------------------------- The BIG Lottery |
