Seriously people ... I dont understand the HUGE war with EvE vs. WoW to be utterly honest I can see why wow has more players ... Its wider more free ... but on the other hand eve's gfx is far better and the pvp is better ... and generally WoW is for lower aged people and on the other hand EvE is for much more logical people who are usually at a higher age.
Im going to try out WoW and by the looks it isn't too bad.
So can some people in a carm way without ripping me up or picking bits of me to make an insult and just tell me,
WHY IS EVE BETTER AND WOW NOT !?

you're not exactly the brightest person when you claim WoW to be more free. In WoW you pick a class, a race and then you just grind yourself to max level.
In Eve you can choose to be any career you'd like, a miner, a scientist, a fighter, a cargo-trucker and lots more. WoW is a good game if you don't really care about putting some research into your game.
WoW is a grind... that's reason enough not to go there...

I would play WoW if it had more hardcore PvP and not so lvl based.
You have to give WoW creds for nice content and quests; Compared to EVE where you end up with the same in EVERY solarsystem - No differsety(sp) what so ever!

when I say 'FREE' I mean .. its not the same ... stars and roids and stations .. wow has differnt map areas dangerous places .. flying options and just roaming around looking for yuo're mates or just messing around ... as in eve there is always danger with pirates and rats .. and its a bit boring just watching ships and stars blob around you.

QFT You cant compare a space simulation (?) with a planet based game. Eve is much more complicated. Also the skill training vs. experience gaining makes you spend more time on WoW to reach a point to use better stuff.

In wow you cant really choose what you want to do, your not free at all, once youve picked your class thats it, you have one play style for the rest of your playing time with that char. Also you cant "take over" any land or buy a place for you and your guild to hang out. you cant make anything usefull to use, you cant make money buying and selling, you cant make money mining, you cant make money fighting and if you do want to fight you have to choose one of 3 linear battlegrounds that just repeat themselves every game. If you want choice, dont choose WOW.

no, there are many more places to go in EVE than in WOW. Its more boring walking around the same 10 square yards, killing the same mobs over and over than eve ever is.

I have played WOW quite a bit. I probably will play it again.
WOW is a fun game, but its very narrow. Leveling up is pretty cool its like living a cartoon fairy tale with an interesting plot. The end game is really weak though. The majority of the end game is raids that require a whole lot of players and very little thought. This sucks because the best items all come from these boring raids. The PVP has no signifigant impact on your character beyond opening up a few items.
I suggest that anyone should at least give lvls 1-60 a shot. Most people fins it fun. But dont expect much fun after 6 months.

1)WOW is more linear and has less freedom 2)WOW pvp has no real loss..making it worthless and yet another grind 3)in WOW you have to grind, though the choice is there..you dont have to in EVE 4)the playerbase in WOW is much more childish, a perfect breeding ground for brainless trols like yourself 5) throughout WOW the game itself holds your hand all the way through, something EVE does not. 6)the playerbase in EVE make the game..making it much more dynamic and enjoyable
there are 6 reasons why EVE players belive EVE to be better than WOW....im sure there are more. but coming to the EVE forums and asking why people thing EVE is better than WOW..is a dead give away to your trolling. _____

Why WoW sucks :
1) AI prevents you from leaving area until you've leveled up, totally linear.
2) PVP without looting has absolutley no point whatsoever.
3) PVP is just plain bad, duels last what, 12 seconds tops.
4) Cant bandage in combat, who needs it when the fights over, I'm already dead.
5) Pots are linked and you can only chug one every coupla minutes, why bother.
6) It's cheaper to die 10 times and repair your armor than drink 1 heal pot.
7) Everything is soulbound so you can't even give stuff away let alone sell it, just plain stupid.
8) No housing, nothing changes, mundane, predictible, boring.
9) Nothing decays, ever, just keep on repairing it, economy is a joke.
10) Movement is painfully slow, not from lag or a poor comp, just six-million-dollar-man slow.
11) Travel, do I really need to see the scenery, just teleport me there, please.
12) Instanced dungeons, might as well be a stand alone game.
13) Character cutomization, was there any?
14) Crafting designed for three year olds, until they get bored that is.

Sighs...Eve is a space game. Wow is a pre teen fantasy game there are too many differences between then to do a fare comparison really however i will do some minor comparisons i guess.
1. All loot in WoW has to be linked to you to be fully used once that is done it CANT be traded.
2. WoW has an average retention rate of 2 months compared to 12 months with eve.
3. WoW is aparently fun on the grind from level 1 to 60 but most dont really like the endgame here. In eve there is no real endgame same as there are no real set profesion routes.
In the end all i can say is by all means give WoW a go if you can afford to make your own judgement and in the end if you decide to return to eve you are always welcome, and if you enjoy WoW....good for you. -----------------------------------------------

Two completely different games. It's like comparing Counterstrike to Civilisation IV. Just doesn't work that way. Who cares, anyway? Why is there such a need for fanboy vs fanboy battles?

WoW *IS* better.
Can I have your stuff?
On a more serious note- I played WoW. I quit when I realized that the end-game was your choice of:
1) grinding raids to get raid gear so you can grind raids 2) grinding battlegrounds to get PVP gear so you can grind battlegrounds 3) grinding rediculous quests to get gear inferior to 1) and 2) 4) Kill newbies in one blow over and over and over and over. 8 hours a day. Every day. Weeee :P 5) Find something fun to do.
I didn't wanna do 1) because I'd already done that in Everquest, and playing a game for 12 hours a day is work. But they don't pay you. :P
I didn't wanna do 2) because it's a lot like 1) except that you do it with masses of crazed (or AFK) (or both) idiots instead of your guild-mates.
I didn't wanna do 3) because you do it alone, and you wind up with poo for gear, and even getting the best gear in the game isn't a particularly enticing reward in the first place.
I didn't wanna do 4) (popular though it is) because it's as boring as 1) and the company is just as stupid as 2), with all the disadvantages of 3) thrown in for good luck.
So I went for 5). Hi Eve :)

Although i much prefer eve, i used to enjoy WoW and i can tell from what you say here you have no proper experience of wow.
1, you can go where u want, when u want, u just might not live very long. 2, PvP without looting has a purpose to kill the other players and beat them and a fight. 3,Duels can last up to half an hour, you must have dueled at level 10. 4,u can bandage in combat. 5,Pots gain u mana and HP thats why you bother, if you cant see the benfits of gaining health and HP then i dontthink you understand. 6,from this i can tell u didnt even bother to go above level 10, with my char, 1 deaths repairs is about 3-4 health pots. 7,Only certain Items are soulbound 8,Aggree with u on this point. 9,Ammo, pet food, potions, buffs, food all vanish as u use them. 10,can tell u never got above level 10 yet again, movement is much slower in EvE. 11,just like u get teleported from place to place in eve, oh hang on a minute, you dont. 12,instanced dungeons are just like the deadspace quests u repeat over and over and over, except in WoW you actually get differen quests, not the same crap over and over. 13, aggree with u on this the only customizable things are choosing your skills. 14,aggree on this point.
all in all i can tell from your answers that you didnt play the game for very long therefor you cant really make valid points.

I played WOW for about 2 months, had a level 42 druid by the end of it. The only problems i had with the game was...
1. I dislike grinding
2. The pvp was rubbish and full of LAG #
3. The community aspect of game was very poor
4. The game was more suited for the age group of 12 and below

pretty much ditto except i got to level 51 before i decided to quit
the problem with WoW for me is the grind:
bored of your warrior want to play a wizzard you have to grind all over again, in Eve you want to be a miner train mining and if you dont like it just train something else.
also it doesnt help that the end game is so crappy, oh look i can run a big dungeon with loads of other people in a raid to get new peices of armour which will help me to run the dungeon again

Does it matter what anyone else thinks??
The Wow is for kids and Eve is for adults comment is ridiculous. I know kids that play Eve and have tried Wow and i know adults that play Wow (and prefer it) that have played Eve and yes they gave it a good try i.e. 9 months.
I personally love Eve but i go back to Wow now and again when i want to just chill and not worry about what i might lose etc.
Like i said who cares about others opinions, its only yours that count.

Edited by: Svanh Mickahl on 02/09/2006 14:39:10 Why is EVE better?
1) Players actually have an impact on the game. Your actions can effect others around you indirectly. The economy is really player effected and the
player interaction is 100 times better than any game on the market.
2) Eve has a policy of 100% free expansions. This means you buy the game once and then get every expansion as they come out, if I recall correclty WOW is
charging for some of their new content.
3) Complete character freedom.. All the fantasy games I have seen have the same style, you picvk a race and class and then that is what you are. If you want to be a different kind of player, say a dwarven warrior wants to be a wizard, he cannot do this. Oh he might get a few magic skills but he will never truly be a great wizard let alone as good as a player that started as an Elven Wizard. In EVE you can be what you want when you want. A Caldari warrior can become a Minmatar Ship Producer and researcher any time he wants. Now his race of course does not actually change but he will be able to research and produce Minmatar ships as well as a Minmatar that started doing that if he commits the time to learning it.
4) Amazing Community: Now I know all games think their community is the best, however I have been around computer gaming since it started, seriously almost 30 years and I have seena dn been a part of some of the greatest games ever made. I have seen the good and the bad in gaming communities and I can say that the EVE community is one of the best I have EVER seen. In fact CCP can quote me as saying that I have stated to many people EVE Online is in my top 5 games of all time list. This amazing community has to due with the age of the players, EVE is a much more mature game than most in it's player base. It also has to do with the amazing open ended system they have created that have allowed massive community involvement that translate into game related effects.
I could go on but in the end all of this is opinion, is Eve a better game from a plyer perspective, NO, it is different. That also goes for every game otu there, no game is better or worse than any other, it is different and thus a matter of taste.
If however you are looking for a game that will stretch your play to the limit, will force you out of your comfort zone, will make you PLAY the game not just follow along then EVE is the best thing out there.
Eve vs WOW is like comparing a fine wine to a glass of coke. Coke tastes great and provides a quick enjoyment with little effort. A fine wine needs a good meal prepared to enjoy it, then it must be savored to fully gain what it has to offer. A coke is cheap and easy, a fine wine is hard and requires an effort to search out and find the perfect taste.
It is all a matter of choice and the choice for many of us is the fine wine and meal that Eve provides us everytime we play..
For limitless possibilities, you need Infinite Dreams
