Errrm I think you can take over land, isnt that the purpose of the controlled areas?
Theres some sort of tower thing. I found some the other day while exploring. They belong to either Alliance or Horde and are like soveriegnty towers.
Havent tried mining or making money from fighting yet but PvP is definitely not limited to 3 battlegrounds. On the RPPVP server I play on you can PvP anywhere except the major cities with scaling restrictions
- You can attack any enemy in your own city, in uncontrolled territory you can attack anyone of any age bracket, in enemy territory you can attack anyone who attacks you first. There are actually more PvP restrictions in EvE then the server I play on. Less penalties for death but thats the aim of that game, fast PvP, Less loss vs EvE, slow PvP, high loss.
One is not necessarily better then the other since its subjective.

Yes i know about the tower thing and no you dont really gain controll of the land all it does is give you a buff verses NPC's and its only for as long as you controll the towers. -----------------------------------------------

Quote: On a more serious note- I played WoW. I quit when I realized that the end-game was your choice of:
1) grinding raids to get raid gear so you can grind raids 2) grinding battlegrounds to get PVP gear so you can grind battlegrounds 3) grinding rediculous quests to get gear inferior to 1) and 2) 4) Kill newbies in one blow over and over and over and over. 8 hours a day. Every day. Weeee :P 5) Find something fun to do.
I didn't wanna do 1) because I'd already done that in Everquest, and playing a game for 12 hours a day is work. But they don't pay you. :P
I didn't wanna do 2) because it's a lot like 1) except that you do it with masses of crazed (or AFK) (or both) idiots instead of your guild-mates.
I didn't wanna do 3) because you do it alone, and you wind up with poo for gear, and even getting the best gear in the game isn't a particularly enticing reward in the first place.
I didn't wanna do 4) (popular though it is) because it's as boring as 1) and the company is just as stupid as 2), with all the disadvantages of 3) thrown in for good luck.
So I went for 5). Hi Eve :)

Younger players find it hard to get into EVE because of the huge complexity and the initial bore when you're a starting character. They end up mining in a frig, and when they get ganked for the first time, they leave whining how boring and lame the game is, and go on to play WoW. In WoW, when you die, you don't loose anything. PVP is no risk, PVE is no risk, and to make things just swell, it's a huge grind. Sure, EVE can be like that as well, but there are so many different ways of going about things like earning money. You can mine, sell your products, trade, do missions, go shoot rats, etc, whereas in WoW, you're most likely going to end up doing raids on the same dungeons over and over and over again. ____________________________

The way i usually decide to play mmos is by looking at what it offers in the beginning but truly weighing what the endgame have. When u look at EVE it rly is a very though game to get a grasp of, but once u do it gives some of the best experiences ive had in any game. When u talk about WoW u have a game that is very easy to get into. A game that has a good variation of quests etc. However i always ask myself why am i lving? in every game i play. Why spend months to lv? what am i getting for it? other than just newer armor/wep? My answer is always PvP!!! WoW offers it, but there really is not much of an incentive to wanna pvp. Theres not land/castle to take over, in the end tha game offers nothing to top lv chars xcept grind dungeons to find the ultra rare armor/weps. Ull find urself at lv 60 in no time, and having nothing to do, ofc u will have fun through the process but in the end is wasted effort imo. EvE on the other hand is daunting at the beginning, the missions r a treadmill BUT u always have choices. If u set out to get what u want u can get it....in due time. There are complexes the rare gear all other mmos offer, the pvp u crave, and the fact that u can actually control sectors of space. In the end both games are radically different but i think EvE has more longetivity. To adress the member count issue....EvE is simply a more complicated game and id consider it hardcore therefore not as many people will play it as WoW because its just a very simple game to play.

I played WoW for 2 months, I played EVE for over a year. Heres why I left WoW:
1) After I got the quest where I had to get 50 troll tusks I realized that I was paying 15$ a month to work.
2) I felt obligated to log in and level so I can get my money's worth.
3) Calling the playerbase a bunch of retards would be a compliment.
4) PvP in itself was a grind (needed to get reputation so that you can access better items)
5) The game was unbalanced so that in the battlegrounds Horde would kick the crap out of alliance in all but the Alterac Valley arena. Why? Because at higher levels alliance can get items easier then horde since theres 10x as many alliance then there are horde.
6) Tuesday server downtime was STUPID. 1 hour per day is nice but the huge downtime every tuesday was ridiculous.
7) Forums were too huge, I couldn't spam because it got lost in a sea of other spam.
8) Their Auction House was as bad at EVE's T2 Inflation. (stupid ass carebears)
9) Running from one end of a map to the other is about as tedious as going thirty jumps in EVE.
10) Some dungeons can LITERALLY take over a day.
11) What do you do when you hit level 60, have the best (and yes there is a best) gear and have maxed out your characters PvP reputation? Create a new character and do it all over again!

In eve you train skills to get more efficient
In wow you must gain experience to get more efficient
You dont need to spend time in eve to train skills but you must play the game if you want to get lvl60.

Originally by: AcronSz Seriously people ... I dont understand the HUGE war with EvE vs. WoW to be utterly honest I can see why wow has more players ... Im going to try out WoW and by the looks it isn't too bad.
So can some people in a carm way without ripping me up or picking bits of me to make an insult and just tell me,
WHY IS EVE BETTER AND WOW NOT !?
Get a trial account. You might like it. It didn't grab me the way eve did. Not my cup of tea. For 6m users it is, so I am obviously abnormal.

And gridning POS for days on end tops this, how?
Eve has its legs, but I don't see how people have any right to knock another game on its grind mentality, when current territorial wars in Eve revolve around 10+ hour lag fests where all that happens is one massive fleet chews on an inamimate object the entire time.
Just to top it off, our code weath generators are A: mine rock for 40+ hours straight, B: Ship POS fuel for umpteen-billion jumps, or C: Kill the same NPCs again and again and again and again
In the end, being in an Alliance was become work, and the obligation to them were eating out of time I needed for the rest of my life. In the end, about the only reason I still pay for Eve, is because I've got so much invested into my character, I can't quite bear to give him up yet, and the expense of maintaining it is small overall.

Originally by: Terraform you're not exactly the brightest person when you claim WoW to be more free. In WoW you pick a class, a race and then you just grind yourself to max level.
K... simple enough.
Originally by: Terraform In Eve you can choose to be any career you'd like, a miner, a scientist, a fighter, a cargo-trucker and lots more.
K... Seems like what you just said boils down to "you pick a class, a race".
And the same rules apply for WoW and EVE. You only get access to the stable high level content when you reach a certain point. EVE's point is when you join a big alliance and pick regions of 0.0 to inhabit. WoW's point is you hit 60 and start raiding with friends. What you decide to do when you hit the point is entirely upto you, but its not fair to criticise when you find out you dont enjoy it. ___________

Thats more or less how I feel. I hit 60 in WoW, and I can drop it for months and months without the fear of ever droppping behind the best of the best. I can't do that on EVE, so I pay for 3 accounts while I wait for some insiration (or changes) for EVE. ___________

1. I just spent 1.5 months grinding worlds collide so I could afford to buy a capital ship.
2. I feel obliged to log on and grind isk so I can get my moneys worth. And even then I cant because I dont want to join an alliance.
3. Since unlike yourself, I never knew all of the people on all of the servers I cant respond to that comment. But I assume its a rather large generalization.
4. Kill 1 ship and pod in low sec and you need to grind to get NPC faction back. Faction = Reputation.
5. In EvE, trying to get into 0.0 unless you join the Horde, is extremely hard and you will generally have the crap kicked out of you.
6. Not sure about this.
7. ?
8. As bad as EvE then.
9. Just like in EvE no one forces you to run to the other end of the map. Its a choice that should be available to people who are willing to go the extra distance.
10. Thats bad? Too much content is bad?
11. What did you do in EvE today that you didnt do last week, or last year? Been playing for a very long time and I can tell you theres pretty much nothing to do except log on and train a skill, grind ISK or help out in the help channel.

Err yeah sorry.
That Monkey idiot came into the L4 channel the other day, asked for some advice and when he didnt like what I told him he became offensive and started talking about how I 'guzzle cum'??
Very offensive little worm with no manners and class. I'll edit my posts and then just ignore him.
All I told him is that he would have more trouble doing L4 in a Typhoon then a Raven because of turret range vs missile range or lackthereof. Go figure.

Was just a test to figure out if you're a carebear and know jack**** about EVE and play wow or not. Conclusion: ziona - carebearing little high-sec mission runner, who doesn't know anything about EVE except how to equip a raven for LVL4 missions and also plays wow it seems. Go figure

Wow and Eve are both great games. Top of their genres. Wow has a constant grind, but the game itself is very beautiful. And you never have to do the same mission twice, ever. That is a very very very big plus point. The game will keep you interested for about 4-6 months. And if you're lucky enough to be in a very active guild the end game is a lotta fun, but if your guild is smallish and you constantly struggle to get 40 people together for engame dungeons, it just plain sucks. You logon and wait for a raiod group to fill up. Most of the time it doesn't. And if it does, but it's not your normal experienced group, you die a lot for making stupid mistakes.
Eve has very very limited missions. So you wind up doing the same ones over and over and over again. Or you can do any of the other repetitive things ther are to do in Eve. Eve is a lot lot more dynamic and free compared to Wow. This is Eve's very very very big plus point.
You escalate in skills to do something new. Grinding for the isk while your skill trains. Then you get to your next short term goal, and you start grinding for isk while your skill is training toward your next short term goal. Somewhere along the line you might get bored and quit, or you just keep at it.
Both are great games, but vastly different.
