I usually don't make this kind of topics, but it seemed a good idea to do so this time.
Many of us would like to see the upcoming T3 Minmatar Destroyer to be vertical. Right now all existing destroyers are quite lineal; while that certainly isn't a bad thing, new ones are a good opportunity to explore new concepts, unless CCP's vision of destroyers is that of horizontal ships.
I think the best way of showing our support for the vertical concept is to do so explicitally, so that is the purpose of this topic:
Comment here if you want the T3 Minmatar destroyer to be vertical!
Of course, if you don't want it to be vertical, say so too! Everyone's voice should be heard.
To help designing and mental visualizing, here are some examples:
- Rupture - Naglfar - Tyrfing - Concept 1 - Concept 2 - Non-EVE example (still a human ship) |

Vertical, yes. Resembling any of the examples given, no. Well, the first one isn't too bad, but the second one looks like a rusty myrmidon, and the third one doesn't look like it'll fall apart if you fart in its general direction.

Those were just some visual examples of what I was talking about, as do the already existing ships mentioned before those. The Minmatar D3 doesn't have to be like any of those! It needs to be vertical with a spoke going outwards from the middle so it can be used as a transformer for a Max-Matar ship (this will be a t3 battleship comprised of different hulls, the hulls are in fact 'subsystems'), this would be the connectors for the joints.
So for instance,
The Fenrir could be used as the body and Naglfars can be used as the limbs, Stabbers would form the fingers and the Rupture would be the thumb. The hand would be a scimitar and the feet would be a hoarder with its toes being shuttles for the smallest toe, a talwar for the normal sized toes and a thrasher as a big toe. The typhoon would of course be the head as it's a battleship class. For its armanents, the Nidhoggur would be the shield and the ragnorak would be its sword of which it would exact mighty justice against the evil enslavers of the Amarr. |

I'd like new ships to look like science-fiction, not fantasy. And if you make a vertical ship, assuming the rocket engine is the middle, then the top and bottom have to be needlessly strong and heavy so that they don't break off when you give it some throttle. There's a reason the ship in avatar don't look like the naglfar. I don't like the ships that look like the inquisitor (two engines at each side of the ship, massively difficult to control) and tormentor (only engines at the top, it would simply spin around and around). Or any other fantasy-esque designs that don't even try to make sense. Stahp it CCP! |

We have gigantic space stations and spaceships, warp travel, FTL communications... and our ships turn without any visible thrusters (I always thought they do via local micro-warping of spacetime). I'm pretty sure we can make sure a vertical ship does not fall apart when we start its engines |

Even better, IMO, would be that the ship is vertical in one or two of it's modes, and non-vertical in the other. For example in sniping mode it is vertical, and in the other modes it is not.

Maybe a better one? Could once have a ship where in defensive mode it's an upright ship, and then when the ship "shifts" to a speed mode, it reorients the bulk of it's body so it becomes a long thin ship, and shifts perhaps into a catalyst-like posture when in sniper mode?
This might be a bit difficult. essentially, the part that contains the pilot remains in the same alignment, and the body rotates on two axis around it, possibly further reconfiguring it's layout, panels moving, streamlining in speed mode (I know that it's space and therefore aerodynamics are not an issue, but it would LOOK cool )

Komodo Askold wrote:I usually don't make this kind of topics, but it seemed a good idea to do so this time. I think the best way of showing our support for the vertical concept is to do so explicitally, so that is the purpose of this topic: Comment here if you want the T3 Minmatar destroyer to be vertical!Of course, if you don't want it to be vertical, say so too! Everyone's voice should be heard. To help designing and mental visualizing, here are some examples: - Rupture - Naglfar - Tyrfing - Concept 1- Concept 2- Concept 3- Non-EVE example (still a human ship)- Another non-EVE exampleEDIT: remember these are just examples; the final ship does not have to be like any of them. EDIT 2: another example. EDIT 3: another great example from SIrera Artrald (Concept 3). EDIT 4: please don't forget about the cooling fins! Very good examples at concepts 1 and 3.
Way are we not funding this! +1

And CCP has just shown in o7 that they don't pay attention to the community. Seems like it's a horizontal destroyer after all. |

Well, as they say it's just one of the 3 modes, and even they are not much sure about wether it's horizontal or not. Hey, maybe there's still hope... It looks quite nice though.

Vertical would be a nice change, as long as it's mostly symmetric.

Vampyr3 wrote:Yes. With Bells On.

Two modes are close enough to vertical me thinks.

Btw, those vertical modes look like it's going to start walking, isn't it?
