I fail to see why anyone gets personally excited about carebear miners using 12-18 hours per day of their eve account to mine scordite using banned programs. As many have said, a rich carebear is irrelevent, a rich carebear in a battleship is an easy target.

I rather like rich people mining with macros. They buy loot modules and Megacyte from people like me, things they are incapable of getting themselves. I really don't see 'em as a threat, and don't see this exploit as any more immoral or crappy than the ones that have/are being use in agent missions, PvP, PvE, fraud and manufacturing/trade.

here we ve got a confessing macro user. on eve player boards.

just test my theory on him. shouldn t he be banned within days if ccp takes this seriously?
(and it s no excuse that he is a noob and doesn t know how to get rid of the warning boxes. if those are the way ccp is trying to keep macros under control,

I said I tried them, I wanted to find out who was right. I never said that I did anything more than that.

At the end of my testing of the macros, I actually lost money. I lost a cruiser and a hauler. I never did mine enough ore to even replace the ships. So your wanting to ban someone for testing it doesn't hold up.

Loosing two ships and not really able to mine that much is not worth the risk of being banned to use a macro program.

I can see how a disabled person could reasonably use the mouse movements for the movement of ore from cargo to can mining. But that is it.......

Your jumping the gun and lack of understanding wanting to ban someone for putting information out is funny.

Don't shoot the messenger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol.

1. we kill everyone, messengers includedRolling Eyes

2. i don t want you to be banned. you are a noob. a macro in your hand will cause as much damage as a BB. i was clever enough to get from your post that you are neither an active macro-user nor a particular fan of those.

but my important points were:

3. there are people who think that there are good/bad macros. or that they wont harm the game. both is very wrong. (and if you ever see a group of ships stripmining a belt by auto, have those buddys log in and of 23/7, or just think about the possibilities in combat, you might know why)

4. people believe that ccp is very tough on macro users. this is wrong too.

they should have means to check on macro-users regular moves. they obviously don t have those, or we wouldn t be discussing this here.

while they shouldn t ban you instantly (i m a great fan of the right to explain oneself in rl, too), shouldn t they at least contact you? remind you of what the EULA says? ask you wether all your buddys share your opinion on using macros? ask you to hand a copy over so that they can find out more about it?
let me guess: nothing of this has happened so far? it never will?

5. monitoring the lines of supply of these programms and finding out how they specifically work is the only way to get the well programmed among them. not following every hint is, in fact allowing them.

6. i m a little bit curious about your friend. i guess, he too spend the money just to see what the fuss was about? he handed it over to ccp after doing a try run, didn t he? (reminds me of when i bought that porsche because i wanted to find out wether the leather seats feel as uncomfortable as they keep saying)

7. i don t care about wether macros are forbidden or allowed. most of them would take some of those boring tasks from us. (though i think this is a balancing issue, too). so allow them or ban them.

having them forbidden while doing nothing (mostly) about people using them is a very bad idea.

sorry, long post.Very Happy

i agree...ur all *****ing about something you mostly dont know..HAve any of you ever tried to write a program like that? no probably not...so stop whining-and how in the heck would CCP find out? i just reread the EULA and nothing in it states anything about invading your privacy.
2. people dont just put all that effort into something careless-the mining macro is a good example..point 1: it increases the amount of ORE IN THE SYSTEM so more stuff gets built, AND you cannot put it in a low-sec system cuz your ship WILL get scraped, so all they do is set it to a HIGH-SEC system...so just go farther out, find a deposit of jestpet or somesuch and grab a few buddies and mine ur arse off! that way it adds flavr to the game...

when you do an action that is logged, if your suspected of macro mining and CCP look at your massive log or repetative same commands all spanning same times thats when you are banned..

go into 1.0 space and fire a volley at a bestower i bet it dont even respond, that is a macro miner. (although some sleep mine just afk) but some RTB and return to the field again. its like talking to NPC's sometimes in amarr. basicly there dropping themselves in it because people will only macro in 1.0 as its so safe.

all CCP do is watch whos there and check the logs simple.

There are so many aspects of macro mining that detract from the game it would take days to cover them all, but I do feel compelled to comment on a few that were mentioned here.

While it is true that macro mining floods the market with low end minerals, and those minerals facilitate the building of modules and ships, it also reduces the potential profit of the actual miners and new players. If the low end minerals were more scarce then high sec miners would make more money and thus mine more frequently which would replace the minerals being offered by the macro's now.

Those same high sec miners would then be able to spend that hard earned isk on the modules and ships being built which would put them in higher demand and result in higher profit to the builders as well..
since macro's rarely buy the modules and ship being built.

I have been an alpha/beta tester for years. I have seen first hand how macro's operate because many developers allow them for a short time in order to discover how to prevent them. The macro's in eve are easily disrupted if CCP chooses to go that route.

As mentioned above, there are occassional pop up boxes that interrupt the proper functioning of the macro. If those boxes popped up every time you entered the astroid belt it would be a minor inconvienance for the "real" miner but an absolute pain for the macro that is snoozing away while his ship is unable to deploy drones, mine, or return to station. Belts could be offset daily so that book marks were not good anymore. Non minable roids could be mixed in with good ones and cut the macros yeild in half. High sec belts could be monitored by the factions holding this space so that a pass code were needed to be entered prior to mining....pass code sent in text when entering the belt...all these features would be trivial to a "real" miner if it resulted in higher profits for him/her in the end.

Lastly, not all macro is done in 1.0. I know of an ice belt right now that has 7 mackinaws in it 23/7 who never respond to bumping, convo's...etc and the only time I haven't seen them there is when we have a long patch..so go figure

I believe CCP cares, but I also believe they are concerned of the negative aspects of banning the wrong accounts because there is not sure fired way of probing out the macro's
