Do you give him ISKies to keep your job?
So far I have done the SMART thing and haven't told him my name or corporation or whatnot. For the sake of my own job, I won't even tell you what company or industry I work for.
But I do know his alliance, his corp, and where he hangs... maybe one day when he leaves that pile of papers on my desk or asks me to come in on Saturday, I'm pretty sure I know what I'll be doing that Sunday.

What if you were CEO of your corp, and found out that YOUR BOSS WAS ONE OF YOUR MEMBERS? Oh man, that'd be great :)
I would start to treat him EXACTLY as he treated me at work. Of course, he wouldn't know it was me, but I'm sure it'd freak him the hell out if I chew him out ingame using the same phrases that he'd use on me, especially on the same day that I get chewed out! lmao!
Ahh, I think my boss will soon be recieving an anonymous 14-day trail for eve

an unfortunate turn of phrase few seem to be familiar with in the US. (and applys to a shocking variety of jobs)
"At-will employment"
you can be fired on a whim for no reason whatsoever.
It's when people start trying to show that there WAS a reason that things get sticky. (Lawyers, FORWARD MAAARRRCH!!!)
My vote goes for podding the boss tho, shows initiative. ~~~~ Men often decieve themselves in believing that by humility, they can overcome insolence. She's not your satellite, she doesn't miss you.

Only if you live in a country with really, really, REALLY stupid laws. In the UK, if he fires you because of something that happened in an online game, he'd be up in court before you could say BoB.
It's called At-Will Employment here in the USA and yes you can be fired for no reason at all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-will_employment
I'd love to listen to the court testimony of somone arguing they were fired for an event in a virtual world though
correct, you can be fired for any reason at all the USA....the lawmakers, a.k.a. the business owners (or the politicians they OWNED), ensured this...but you can sue for wrongful dismissal (nice that some of the judges were not OWNED by businesses).
I know this for a fact, because I have sued for it, and won, recieving all the backpay and the legal cost.
now as to providing game info to your boss...
I wouldn't let my boss know who i was in the game. I would hire mercs to hunt him if he was silly enough to tell me...
I would never play a game at work (some BOFH like me might have keyloggers on all the pc's...☺). I also monitor all network traffic....and would have to fire myself...gads, why oh why am I such a BOFH!!!☺

(hmmm, dont think I've ever made a thread that got so many views...)
I don't think we could play at work, even if I really begged him to. I have got caught looking at EVEMon while at work, but he had mistaken it as some Windows-based game. Now only if I had known he was into EVE I wouldn't have gotten reamed out the a$$ by another supervisor which is his lackey...
But then again, he did tell me this story about a former worker getting fired over playing EVE way to much. He came in 2 hours late all the time because he had to get that bonus for his lvl 4 mish, he'd say. He told me he sympathized with him for a while, but after doing it a couple of times he had realized and I quote:
"Lvl 4 bonuses are crap, why the hell is he not sleeping over that!"
I noticed the Dev Team made a post, are you guys listening now?

I would sit in my pajama's playing Eve, and talk on the phone, remote admin their networks/domains....sigh....the good old days will return....

Just for the record unless you got some backing, you stand little chance of winning in court in the UK. Far from looking after its worker's we are seen as cheap low skilled labour in most countries, I had a problem at work and went to my union after some time they admitted they were powerless to do anything.
This is true and many wonĘt believe it but my solicitor told me (top man from union) if I was female or any other ethnic group they would be able to bring a case, but all funding has been removed and legal aid is only for the rich.
In disbelief I went to another solicitor and he checked and confirmed the same, itĘs very hard to bring a case in the UK.

We all play Half-Life II death match at work in the lunch hour.... I've tried getting them interested in Eve, but I think they are pretty much dyed-in-the-wool FPS players
That said I think Eve at work would be hard to walk away from. Hell, I struggle to step away from the PC when the cat brings in a live mouse, or one of the kids comes in with a cut knee "not now, I'm trying to get past a gate camp"

Why were you wasting time and money going to a solicitor? You can bring your own case to an employment tribunal - in fact you're SUPPOSED to, the damn things were set up to save people having to go to the trouble of attending court with a qualified solicitor. ________________________________________________

Originally by: Eldo Davip I told my boss I stopped playing Eve because he asked me what alliance and corp I was in. Apparently we are in rival alliances.
Now when I'm reading the forums at work I have to close the browser if he comes around. I have to pretend I don't play Eve for the sake of my job.
I don't get it. Why would you have to pretend to not be playing just because you're in different alliances?

In the real world when people fire you for an unfair(or illegal) reason they find a reasonable excuse that wont get them in trouble.

Nice of you to reply Baldour, but if you read it again you will see the word UNION as a member of one they will and do take action for you, and every step of employment law was used as required.
But in the end they could not proceed to court as even though a valid case was possible, I nor the union could fund it and legal aid has been withdrawn from such cases, UNLESS you are female or an ethnic group.
Protest all you want but its true, most people dont realise that past a certain point the cost jump beyond the reach of normal folk

Here in the US, most IT workers are employed by an "at-will" contract. That basically means they can let you go at any time with only 2 weeks warning, for any reason that isn't actually in violation of a law.
Of course, if you're in a union or have an actual real contract, YMMV.
<=----=> Vila Restal: I'm entitled to my opinion. Kerr Avon: It is your assumption that we are entitled to it as well that is irritating.

Alas tis true. Happened to me when I was constructively dismissed. Fortunatley the union really fouled up my case, so I ended up suing them instead for their negligence. Ironically the amount they gave me was more than what they said I would have got in a employment tribunal.
