I would like a poll of people who get this message over and over. I bet it is quite a lot. You all think it is your computers. I think it is a server problem. My connection is good or one of the best. My computer is high end. Nothing they suggest has changed anything so far.
I would like to know so I can refer them to this in a link.
Thank you in advance.

Yep, me too. That's why I'm not playing right now. After about the third or fourth time...
This is really not making a good impression for my free trial.
Check the other thread, the problem might be centered in London. Anyone have this problem who isn't getting routed through London?

Yes. Particularly in the Mornings through mid-day Pacific time. Perfoming tracert 87.237.38.200 from the command line reveals a similar pattern every time:
10 48 ms 48 ms 56 ms so-1-2-0.bbr1.SanJose1.Level3.net [209.244.3.137] 11 213 ms 242 ms 258 ms ae-1-0.bbr1.London1.Level3.net [212.187.128.58] 12 198 ms 193 ms 193 ms ae-0-55.gar1.London1.Level3.net [4.68.116.139] 13 193 ms 194 ms 201 ms 195.50.91.22 14 194 ms 197 ms 195 ms 87.237.38.199 15 227 ms 199 ms 217 ms 87.237.38.200
It's almost always a high ping once the trace jumps to "London". It's INCREDIBLE FRUSTRATING for this new player.

Edited by: qui arthell on 07/09/2006 01:44:38 I haven't had it yet, but buddy gets it all the time, but only during combat. He can be doing couriers, mining, etc and go forever - but if it's combat he constantly gets CTD'd.
That's only IF he can even log in, of course.

It's not your PC. They have to tell you that because they cant say its a socket layer problem in the software or something like that.
However, they are working on it all the time. When this game first came out, you could play mabee a half hour or an hour and BOOM! Half or all of the players all over tranquility were kicked off.
Its waaayyy better, and you can get right back on in this game plus they have made it so you warp out instantly. Before if you were in the thick of it and you got kicked...you were done.

--- 87.237.38.200 ping statistics --- 110 packets transmitted, 110 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/std-dev = 73.529/76.929/105.757/4.366 ms
That's durn good for being on another continent. (I'm in New York.)
Of course the ability to bounce back ICMP is not a good measure of network performance, but at least they're reachable ;)

I've been getting the same issue.
For whatever reason, it seems to not be as bad directly after downtime. I can get any of my 4 accounts logged in and operate them successfully. Then, within a few hours of the servers being back up, it goes into mega-lag mode and eventually loses connection to the server, never to be connected again until the next downtime. Sometimes, when the servers have near to no players, I can sneak one of my 50-100 attempts to login past the problem and get in for a few minutes.
So far, CCP's only response to my pleas has been the generi-response of "Hi, check your firewall and router to see if it's blocking the game" which is amusing given that if something were blocking the port, I wouldn't have recurring ability to log into the game. I'm hitting critical frustration mass, probably because I've been playing a lot of this game (more than I should to be true), but for me to have handed out almost a thousand dollars to a company I hope to get better than an automated response over a week's time.
Sorry for the rant bit, I know it's not appropriate here, but it blows off just enough steam to keep me hoping and not cancelling. -----~!~-----

Maybe this has something to do with it : http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=1248&tid=1 quote : "Due to maintenance on our web servers you may experience some connection problems on our websites (www.eve-online.com, myeve.eve-online.com, secure.eve-online.com and ccpgames.com). This should only be short disrutions at a time but may occure over these two days." (it says websites connection probs but my guess is someone got drunk celebrating and spilled a bottle of champagne over them hamsters ... even the P in disrutions is missing )

Same here....lose connection after just a couple of minutes. Have posted about this in other threads. Seems to happen after every CCP patch and mysteriously disappears after we are repeatedly told it must be something on our end.
I won't entertain any suggestions for a fix because I have tried EVERY fix suggested in the forums (including sending tracerts and dxdiag to CCP). This is a problem created by CCP's patch, and needs to be corrected by CCP.

I would be very helpful if those who has the problem did a trace route to CCPs (using the tracetr command from the command line, or a program like Pingplotter).
It's my suspicion that Level3.net, on of the ISP that is passing traffic to CCPs servers, is the source of delays causing high ping and leading to disconnects. Like the Knowlegde Base regarding connection problems says, one will have connection problems is the ping is greater than 180ms. For me, the ping jump up to the 180-250ms range as soon as the traffic passes through jumps on Level3.net's servers.
Of course, Level3 the last ISP before the traffic his CCPs router.

I just tried tracert 87.237.38.200 from a computer at work at the University.
The result is excellent, ping of 1ms through the first 8 hops. . . Until it his level13.net's servers where the ping is ridiculous.

Seriously I never tend to post but I came here hoping that someone found the problem or had a few ideas on how to cut the lag down and possible information on the lost connections.
Needless to say it sucks all the way around and most of all the lack of ANY response from the dev team makes me wonder if theyÆre even looking into it.

Have been experiancing the same problem over the last few days. It's very frustrating. And we had a frig tournament yesterday. Was loosing connection approx. every 5-10 minutes
It startet a few days ago (wasn't that last patch also from the few days ago?). At first, I thought it was an issue with my new router (also few days old) but firewall is set up nicely and connection to the Internet is stable. So it gotta be smth with the game
Needless to say that the game is unplayable for me at the momment and I'm not gonna play it until it's fixed

To their credit, CCP is trying to work this one with me. The difficulty comes in when we note that I'm playing in the US, so when I log into the game, it's just after downtime and I can play for a few hours (if I have the time), so I usually have a message from Revan waiting for me, asking for some specific info during the times I can't get logged in, but I need to wait several hours before that comes back up.
It's frustrating as all get out, but they're trying, and that's all anyone can ask. Good on ya CCP. -----~!~-----

Hi all, I have fixed my problem of losing connection to server. Once I tried everything I could for my NEW pc I started looking at me connection. Turns out when removing my D-Link DI624 router and running directly through my modem I was .... TADA good to go again. No more connection issues and life was good.....until my daughter wanted to go online :). So I went to D-Link got the lastest firmware and once again....TADA...now whole family can use the net again and I have no more EVE connections issues.

I'd say I have had about 50+ disconnects in the last 2-3 days. No, I am not making that number up devs. I have a hand held "click-counter" that I have started keeping on my desk and I click it everytime I get DCed. I plan to keep clicking and keep a running total for the week. Hell, I have to do something since I can't play the game..... *

Just an observation, but it seems that it happens more frequently the later it is from DT.
0-10h post-downtime, no problem. 10-15h, maybe once an hour. 15h-20h, about every ten minutes. 20h-23h, nearly unplayable.
It's also noticably paired with the lag which worsens in busy systems the closer it gets to DT. But the disconnects happen in any system, regardless of lag -- especially when doing some kind of context switch like docking or jumping.

But that's not what I why I respond... I know that a corpmate always disconnects in EVE, if he doesn't do anything on that eve client for a few minutes. He has that problem aready for ages and has no idea, what it is. He plays with 2 clients and the other one keeps running, so his network connection seems to be fine.

This has been happening to me ever since I started playing the game 2 weeks ago. It happens at least 8-10 times an evening of play. Gang leaders hate me, because every time it happens, they need to reinvite me when I log back in.
It's insanely annoying. GM's say that I should be staying in the Gang for 2m after a DC,... but it doesn't treat it like a DC, it treats it like a logoff.
I bought the game despite my dissatisfaction because I enjoy the game itself. However I HATE these bugs, and I don't want to regret my decision.
This may be a necro post, but it's not a necro issue for this new ***** pilot.

Complaining that CCP doesn't have the right hardware shows that you haven't read the Dev blogs at all. CCP uses the best servers that money can buy, the issues come from the ISP's that CCP is connected to...not with their hardware.

All the freaking time... seems to be worse right after the down time for the servers but happens all day as well. really annoying and making me reconsider renewing after my next 90 days.
Also seems to happen more after the last update.

ISD -- this is NOT a crosspost. I am merely stating a theory:
I think that the reason it is going down frequently is because CCP is for some silly reason doing route changes and what not. This type of MASS drop (10,000 players, or even clusters of 200-300 players in a specific region) could occur when you institute a route change or unplug/replug in a server from/to a switch.
CCP -- please investigate these issues! You are losing potential new players (14 day trial person is not going to pay) as well as existing ones (how many times is someone going to lose a ship due to a drop before just giving up?).
To everyone here on this forum -- petition every single drop you get. As noted in the other post, limelight says the fault lies with CCP not them.

Edited by: Dotard on 02/06/2007 13:34:54 I can't stay connected for more than 30 to 60 seconds. Just started last night. Really P's me O.
Also I noticed quite a few "Server has reached it's limit. You are #** to log in."
Does that mean CCP has more players than it's server can handle?
And why are they not responding to this ever increasing problem either here or in the Sticky "client crashing?" thread? I say because they just do not give a d*amn, they got more paying customers than they can handle. If a few quit because of this why should they give a f**k? There's 5 more behind them willing to cough up some dough.

Update:
Now it will only go as far as the Character Selection Screen before "Connection Lost".
Again, WTF CCP?
If these sorry %!@#& don't post something about this soon they can stick my subscription up their dark side of the moon.

I keep getting *Connection Lost* all the time as well. There does not seem to be a certain pattern in it, I just get it randomly. I doesn't matter what I am doing at the time, I could be fighting, warping, jumping, looking at the market, being AFK for a few mins (which almost always disconnects me)... heck, I could even be flying towards a wreck and when I click my salvager, I get the *Connection Lost* window.
I tried to do pings and tracerts to the server, but they show nothing but a good ping.
Quote:
Bezig met het traceren van de route naar 87.237.38.200 via maximaal 30 hops

I don't seem to be going through level3.london.whatever, but I still get this so problem so many times, it is unreal. I can even ping www.eve-online.com and get a nice average ping of 20~22.
This is the biggest thing that bugs me on this game, for the rest, I love this game and if they could fix this... wow... I can already start dreaming about it...

I usually get disconnected every day, although I haven't been keeping track of the incidents it varies a lot from day to day. The worst occasion yet was a few weeks ago, I got "Server Connection Lost" from the server 6 times in a hour, from 14:00 to 15:00 (GMT+1) ... after that I decided to do something else for the remainder of the day. There's nothing quite as frustrating

i can't stay connected either. i filed a petition without reply.
to be honest, i just came back from a 2 month "break"... and i'm also starting to wonder if that was a mistake.
i can ping the server to my heart's content, but the trace seems broken.

i can't even connect at all today. what a waste, i hope i get something in return for these issues.
all i got via petition was "enable keepalive on your router". uhh, my router doesn't do keepalive, and my eve worked fine 2 months ago when i quit, so no, this isn't on my end. go wake up your network team and check your routing tables. --gordo |

what settings did you use? i just ran one myself with the settings provided by a gm and it showed no packet loss. but if crank the settings up a little more so it pings faster, i also see limelight being the culprit. --gordo |

My first and seventh pings timed out after I started having an unresolvable cannot connect to the server issue two days ago. I downloaded a program that was called gaurdian II.ink which was not a cam security program like it said it was. Be careful not to get this program people as it attacked my norton software as well as I think destroying my Eve's progams ability to connect to the server. I have dowloaded multiplicity and installed it into a second copied folder of Eve to no avail but atleast then I got the computer voice back up telling me that it can't connect. As soon as I was off of my trial acount I can't log in. Just paid for the game and now i can't play it once. How not cool is that??? Can anyone help me reinstall no good, i think it might have a bad first and seventh ip address. Caged alone scissor hands needs eve players help to enter back into the world of Eve as Silent Storm a prophet of Jesus.

Getting tons of disconnects but only when i have my router plugged in, i have opened port 2600 (the guys that make my router have setup on there website for games and eve is on that list! so all steps followed correctly).
Its a nightmare, especially when your getting wailed on by rats & you have your drones out. I dont even want to think about a pvp situation.

Connect? Of course not.
Didn't you know, the whole reason people pay fifteen dollars each month is to download patches that nerf their training and stare at an authentication bar that moves at the speed of a continental shelf. No one is actually supposed to play EVE for more than 7 minutes at a time. Come on man, get with it.

Here the wierd thing. Day before yesterday played at night PST and dropped every few minutes ranging from 5-10min. Yesterday at pm PST. I played for 5 hrs straight not one connection lost. Today during the day. Connection lost about every 10min.
Nothing was touched or added or done to the computer. Hmmmm leads me think Eve has network problems. I play tons of other online games with no issues. As i'm using the 14day free trial. They have 11 days to fix it or guess Eve does not want my $14/month + 100's of other players who are having similar issues to roll up their sleeves and fix this for good.
So sad. McDude

this might "slashdot" me, but i don't really care since i can't play eve with these network disruptions.
i have made screenshots periodically of pingplotter during my whole time with this issue. i am now posting the link for the world to see:
http://www.hamiltonshells.ca/~chris/storage/eve-net/
now while bigpipeinc and shaw have just as many problems as limelight, i don't see how they can still push this all on "my end". i have contacted cogeco and hope to hear back from them about their peerings with bigpipeinc. this doesn't explain why limelight keeps changing their routes, as well as having many many ping errors. please gm's, don't peg this on me and have a talk with limelight. seriously.
