Well... it seems, CCP's thoughts about EVE development and evolution are to get bigger and bigger. That's fine, as more users means more monthly income, and that's good for business. So here I go with a few suggestions that can help CCP to reach soon the mark of 100K users.
1. Trial accounts: promote eve via trial accounts even further. The more, the merrier, so plz give each new user 10 or 15 additional trial accounts to allow them to get more and more chars in game at the same time. U should supress number of simultaneous trial accounts limit. Only 1500 trial accounts is not enough! we need more noob chars around, not sure why, but we need more.
2. Increase traffic advisor time delay: each time u make a player have to stop his trip for 2 mins u get 2 spare mins for server that can be used to increase the number of players it can handle. If u increase this time enough... let's see... 5 mins for each traffic delay, with those stolen minutes u can even handle more users.
3. Nerf weapons: weapons calculations are a big load for the server. So... why not limit all ships to only 1 high slot for weapons? This weapon should be bigger the bigger the ship is, thus all combat calculations will be reduced a lot. Let's see... if a ship fires its 8 high slots, that's 8 calculations... if there's only 1 slot to fire, that's much easier... just one calculation to be done... that's 7/8 = 87% reduction. However, if all ships have only 1 high slot, at start this will be a bit boring for the players and game will look less fun but... who cares? As it seems, keeping diversity in EVE is not one of your main objectives.
4. Nerf Drones: why so many drones? Each ship able to use drones, should have only 1 big drone. That would be better for your servers and increase performance even further.
5. Everyone in 0.0!: Instead of pushing again and again players to go to 0.0... u can simply kill security system... make whole EVE universe 0.0... this will increase lag during the starting days, as everyone would be killing each other but... that will happen only at start... after that, less experienced ppl will stay docked forever and ever (that would reduce lag and increase server performance, so u will be able to get more and more new customers in). However, killing security system will go against EVE diversity, but... who cares if you can get ten thousand or more players in?
6. Kill market and escrow: market is obsolete, and database for all the transactions is a big load for server. Instead of market, let each user use e-mail (outside EVE, to increase server performance) and have them contact using this method... trades should be completed only via the trade window with both players docked at station. That will allow you to have much shorter downtimes, instead of the average daily 2 hours due to random crashes, maybe u can do database maintenance in just 1h (just like server system messages say).
7. Kill BMs: BMs are also obsolete. Instead of making ppl have a ****load of BMs impossible to handle, just make a patch with all g2g bms, instadocks and safespots. U can sell it to players and get some extra income. With that, u will supress all the lag caused by bm copying, and forget about the problems of if it is doable in packs of 5 or not.
8. Reduce roids in belts: u can reduce roids in belts to just 1 rock each. That would increase servers performance (less objects to take care of), giving them more and more free resources to handle more players. Also auto can destruction for those nasty forests of cans that litter the universe and consume valuable server resources, must be at least another 5000 users there.
9. Buffer firing weapons: If server load is heavy in a system, u can do for weapons the same thing as for traffic advisory: message for players should be something like this: "Dear player, plz tank rats for a while until it is your turn to fire weapons. U are #34 in firing queue."

10. Nerf killer missions: there's a lot of diversity in killer missions. That's a big load of work for servers. U can use a common pattern for all missions... let's see... from now, let's them to have just 1 rat, and u can use a color palette to increase diversity. As example, missions can be: "Yellow drone harassment', 'Silence the pink informant', 'The blue hand of Zazzmatazz', 'Black market hub' (u don't need to change name for this one), 'The red slave trader' and so on. Diversity could be increased further if u do not limit to basic colors and make combinations of them.
11. Nerf PVP: Worst thing of PVP are fleet combats. A lot of ships involved, a lot of calculations to be made... a lot of work and load for the servers. To handle this, I suggest you to limit fleet combat to 3 vs 3. If more than 3 ships in one of the sides, just pick 3 random ships and engage them. The remaning fleet should wait in limbo with messages like "Dear player, please wait until one of your gang gets killed to engage combat".
12. Nerf graphics: instead of having huge and nice backgrounds for space, use a transparent pattern and suggest all players to use stars windows screensaver. That would be very good to decrease server load.
13. Let couriers like they are now: nothing needs to be fixed here. Courier players are boring people, so the missions match perfecty with them. And it seems that all of those missions have same code so that's good for servers.
14. Nerf chat windows: chat windows are a big load for the servers. In order to handle that, let players to have only 1 chat window open. And don't let them type in a message until 5 mins has passed from last one. That would make Eve more realistic... if 2 players are located 23 jumps away from eachother, there's a communication delay that forces that.
15. Keep players informed of important things: as all players without exceptions are concerned about how many people are connected, u can show in real time and big numbers how many are logged in. This information should be located in the center of client screen, with bold letters and big fonts. This should increase server load slightly, but as it is important for you, that's also important for all players.
16. Take care of afk players: AFK players are a plague. That shows lack of interest in game and how much ppl is online. If anybody goes AFK when mining, traveling or anything else, he needs to be punished. I suggest you to have all players connect webcams to EVE clients for the next patch. U can get staff to control afk ppl and randomly check players webcams. If a chair is empty... BOOM... 10% wallet penalty.
17. Add a couple more of Billboards: We love billboards! an awesome and forgotten thing in EVE universe. They are really useful, very interactive and a must for travelling people. There's nothing better than travelling in freighter at 70m/s and bump a billboard... realigning towards gate and accelerating again is a real nice experience! To make it even better, please add a couple more of them near the gates... let's say... 5 or 6... that would be good for freighter users (like a big pinball machine). Oh! I forgot! u can use them to display how much ppl are online, just in case any player forgot to check it.
Well... I'm sure u will take in account my suggestions to make EVE the most crowded and profitable game in the MMORPG history.
Cheers.

I'd rather see 30k online with some sense of maturity, than 100k online with 50-70k of them being your standard idiot kid you find in alot of other games, because to get them here, EVE would have to be nerfed to hell and back.

Edited by: Rehmes on 10/09/2006 19:41:57 U know u could have simply said all of that in one sentence: nerf the game. Seriously if CCp were to implement even half tof the things u stated then forget about reaching 100k...gl w keeping 1k. If cpp wants to increase amount of people then they must keep updating servers, its the only practical way to do it....and yeah bms can go to hell i could care less.

The only suggestion I have to change in your post is:
Dear player, please wait until one of your gang gets killed to engage combat. You are #76 in engage queue.
LoL, apart of what some IQless can say, this a a nice piece of sarcasm, congratz

Haha cool :)
One thing they could actually do to reduce lag is to reduce skillpoints updating from each second to ones every minute...

LOL, in what graphic have ANY load on server ? It completelty on client side.
For someone that been playing almost a year, I'v never see that drastic idea. Some of them would be way too bad (0.0, no market, one gun max...).
Comme on, before suggesting any idea, try to find goods and bads reasons of an idea. Most of them should never had been writted on this forum if you tough a bit more.
Also, saying thing of performance on computer science technologie without moderated knowledge, you better not saying anything. __ Eve Links Got a new idea ? (Last updated 9 Mai 06) |

I hear there are some sarcasm detectors on sale in Jita. Some people need to purchace a few.
The idea with the guns isn't bad though. Decrease firing rate, increase damage and ammo size.
