It is sep the 9th here in New Zeland.
9-11. a day that will live in infamy.
america and the rest of the world was attack by islamic fools. much like the japanesse during WWII they have woken a giant.
May alah have no mercy on the islamic people who are invovled in anyway.
My heart goes out to the familes of all involved with the twin towers.
Firemen, policemen and firecrews not to mention civilians in the buildings and in the aircraft.
I hope i am not the only non american to feel this way and think that it was not fair on america and other nationalities in the buildings around the world.

I pray for peace and serenity for those who lost loved ones and friends. I nearly lost a few myself. It's strange how many people I've met since then who knew someone there, or who was supposed to be there but something changed at the last minute such as a few of my coworkers who were scheduled to work one of the flights that hit the towers, or a friend who was supposed to be in a meeting in one of the towers but was moved to another site that morning.
On this and every day, I will keep them all in my thoughts and prayers. In Respect, Honor and Remembrance,

There's a line between a political statement, and an honest tribute to those that died today.
The OP is treading that line closely; just keep the political discussions of why it happened and what should be done about it off the boards, and this should be fine imo.

He's right, you know. More childrens dies of AIDS or hunger world-wide in a month than all the victim of 9/11, yet no one speak about them. If a certain government were spending even 5% of what it spend in military bugdet, or a quarter of it's speech time, a lot of them would be saved.
No one tells you to forget the victims, but you don't need to forget to get over it. And it's past time for you to do just that. As long as you let it affect your way of life, accept freedom restrictions to feel safer, then the terrorists win.
And calling someone unpatriotic because they don't agree with you is a very stupid thing to do.

I didn't call him unpatriotic. I asked him if he was.
But what is there to agree on here? That 9/11 was a very bad day? That the victims should be forgotten? I'm 'over' 9/11. I don't let it directly affect my way of life; I don't go around saying "Oh my gosh, we were attacked. I'm going to serpentine while taking out the trash!" For the sake of patriotism, though, I will get "bleeding-hearted" on this day, because I want to feel atleast some degree of compassion for the people who lost friends and family five years ago today.
Yes, more attention should be paid to AIDS victims, cancer suffers, even people such as those that survived the Holocaust. I have to disagree on the budget point, though. I don't put great stock in "More money = More cures". Some of the greatest medical breakthroughs were by accident (penicillin), or just an ordinary experiemnt (the first inoculations). Or do you refer to general treatment of these patients, not just research into cures?
My post is straying into the politics zone. </end>

1) Of course not, I'm saying put it in perspective.
2) Why wouldn't I? It's a terrible thing to happen, but at the end of the day, I'm more worried about tripping over something at home and falling on a knife, or *****ing my head on a table corner.
3) No, but I fail to see why victims of terrorism are more worthy of remembrance than everyone else who happens to die young. Because theirs involved explosions and looked more impressive?
Ultimately, terrorism doesn't add one iota of extra danger to the world we live in. What it does do is create a climate of fear to such an extent that we're not even allowed to take a bottle of water on a plane any more. Where a couple of arabic-looking lads larking about on a plane can cause the flight to be cancelled. But that's exactly what the terrorists want isn't it. --------------------------------------------------------------------

Condolances to the families of those who died of course, but come on, more people die every day from famine in Africa, yet noone seems to have the urge to dramatize that.
Give it a rest, it wasn't a huge event, there's no need to remind people of it every year.

For those that don't understand the '9' in 9-11. 9 represents the 9th month of the year, hence September ~shakes his head light~
I was in Fort Benning Georgia close to 8am or so when news of this started to come about. It was totally unbelievable that something like this was happening. Everyone in Headquarters was shocked. I remembered the days and months following it, also watching our politics unfold a war across the world which many upon many are now involved from across the world and not just the United States.

FFS, it's talking about an event that caused a war, of course it's terrible what happened to the people of NY, but the worst thing to come from that day was a pretext for Team America to do their thing.
The line between memorial thread and political statement was crossed about here:

Gentlemen and a few ladies, one thing that should be reminded of is not only the deaths of 9-11 but the changes the world went through because of it. Massive changes, political ones, miltary ones and many demographic ones have been undertaken because of this single tragic event. Yes it was a very BIG thing. Many thousands of people died with in the matter of minutes not over the course of hours days or weeks but in a very small finite time frame.
Many countries have faced their disasters and tragedies. But few countries also have the global influence the United states have or had at that time and a ballsy enough president to take a stand and yes **** off the world and a great many people. I don't care for anyones opinions of my country or my president but what I do care for now is we are on a global mission to keep this act of terrorism from ever happening to us or to anyone else ever again.
Many young folks don't under stand what really happened back in 2001 and some if many don't care since it doesn't fit into their little world. I pray that these same people who are so quick to discredit and disrespect things they know little about; never ever see the very incident(s) they are so quick to be judgemental about and which in due course people like me and from other militaries of the world are fighting and dying for those very same causes.
We can't take back what happened that day but many wish they could, the ones that lost loved ones and ones that have lost loved ones since that day fighting terrorism all over the world. It is to these people that I remember 9-11 for because the effects of that very event is still carrying us all on its ripples to this day.
*added* This is also why we must never forget so we will never let it happen again. Like the holocaust or other past world tragic events that have shaped history both good or bad in ways that reflect what we have today.
Remembering this day is not just a United States thing. It is a world thing because this event changed the entire world. Look back before 9-11 and think of how much terrorism was talked about. Now look how much it is in the light of things today. It doesn't matter who is making the most noise about it, it does matter now that the entire world is noticing it and taking action against it. It is this reason why it is rememberd and will be remembered to ward off our lazy ways and complacentcy in thinking we are safe when we really aren't if we don't work to keep ourselves and other safe from these things.

I for one shall never forget 9/11.
I dunno about other people but I found suicide commercial airliners to be pretty disturbing. Its one thing to see a japanese plane plunging towards a US carrier with flak and tracers going all over....its another thing to see a wide-bodied Boeing 767 that I have flow on countless times come screaming in at full speed right into a US landmark that I wanted to visit someday when I was older.
Bush-hate syndrome has turned many people into monsters. Quite sad really. Its getting harder to find someone disgusted by the acts of terrorists (whoever they may be) simply because they dont like Bush or the US.
As much as I dislike these children who werent old enough in 2001 to fully appreciate the horror of this act, I pray that they will never have to see something that horrific in the future, where they CAN appreciate the horror of an act that was beyond anything previously seen before (we have seen bus bombs and airplane bombs, but airliners turned into guided missiles aimed at the tallest building they could find? I had never heard of that happening before).
May the dieties bless those who died, and may they pass proper judgement on those who instigated this horrible act along with those who support it.

Actually it was over 4,000. and no there hasn't been 70,000 deaths in cause of it nor by the hand of the president you seem to hate so much. I love my government and for what we stand for. Pretty sure many other Americans can say they love their country. Some hate bush some don't. A sad day indeed, both in itself and considering the implicit consequences of it.
I'll never cease to be amazed by all the heroic efforts in the midst of this tragedy, and all the security personnel that gave their lives to save others. Words are just not enough.
However I feel I also need to send a thought to all the innocent people, civilians aswell as soldiers, that have died ever since, ironically in what has been labeled a war on terror, by the terrorists leading it. May it be in Iraq or Afghanistan, Madrid or London, and elswhere in the world.
Let's pod all those people with a too big desire to wield their power, and then all NAP eachother and live in peace. ------------------------------------------------ -OCC- |

Here's a fact for you. Less than 3000 people were killed in the twin towers attack. The American response to this attack resulted in 70,000 deaths, many of them inncoent civilians. Still love your precious government?
Edit: deleted a line that could be considered flamebait.

If you are refering to Iraq then no, that is just unfinished business and a ploy to put political influence into that/this area of the world. I really don't care how or why it came about, the people here are relishing what freedom that they are being brought. I don't think it is related to what happened on 9-11 just an invoked fear mechanism of 'what ifs' scenarios that our government found excuses to knock out two birds with one stone. You sir are the one making yourself out into an idiot and I wish you would stop.

Alright, seriously, this has gone too far - both sides need to seriously STFU, and take their political arguments somewhere else besides the EVE-O boards. This thread needs to be a tribute to those people that were working that day like normal when planes slammed into their office tower and killed them, not on your views on the world.
Keep this thread about the people who died ffs, its the least we can do to them to remember what they went through.

Iraq was just another target in the 'war on terror' supposedly started due to 9/11, supposedly about stopping terrorism terror. While the 'liberation' of Iraq may or may not have been a good thing, you either support America going around attacking whoever they like, or you don't. You, apparently, do. ----------

The current war is America's doing, 9/11 was just a catalyst.

How is the time frame relevant? A dead is a dead, whatever the way he died or his nationality. Each death is a tragedy, to be avoided if at all possible, but I don't want to start thinking as some deaths being worth "more" than others. I once saw on a forum, just before the irak war "Better 1000 irakis deads than one US soldier". That shocked me, and I don't want to start thinking the same way that that particular poster.

No one cares if you hate Bush or the United States people or what they stand for. I am pretty positive if multiple thousand people died on some historical country landmark prized in your country would you still be so damn cynic about it.
Afaik, the united states stand for liberty, democracy, things like that, that I approve wholeheartedly. However, look at what Bush did: Get elected on a fraud in florida, start a war with a lie, patriot act, get re-elected with the biggest mud-slinging campaign the country ever saw, and now, admit the use of torture ans try to legalise it, with a law that "just happen" to retroactively give civilian officials legal imunity for any war crime inquiry that may be later launched by your congress. Not to mention his foreign policy giving a huge boost for the terrorist's recrutment teams. THAT doesn't seem to me the values the united states are supposed to stand for... Besides, wasn't it one of your Founding Fathers that said "Those who give up liberty for security, deserve neither"? A lot of countries, espescially in europe, dealt with terrorism without changing their way of life. You should be able to, too.

Put things in perspective and for the sake of those that are trying to keep the terrorism in check, be more respectful.

Take it in this light. If I punched you in the nose, wouldn't you get mad? If a I tried to calm you down and try to tell you its ok and a little later punched you in the nose again. Wouldn't you get a bit more ****ed. Wouldn't you at one point or another start fighting back? In the beginning after I punched you in the nose or after it got bloodied after two or three times, the reaction is the same. Think about that and how it reflects this event in history and about your comments on this thread. When will you say enough is enough to keep it from happening again. What would you do to keep it from happening again even though people don't want you to fight back, would you just continue standing there or eventually fight back. Think about it.

If you are having trouble dealing with the tragedy of September 11, 2001, then call a hotline and talk to someone.
People who bring up such a tragedy on a computer game forum are looking for one thing: attention.
Such a post is just another way to capitalize on the sorrow of those that truly suffered that day. Seems to be a lot of that going around (watch CNN).
Lastly, the mere act of reminding someone of the events on Sept. 11 is in a way trivializing the event itself. Having to say "we will never forget" is also to say that one could forget the attacks, and thus begins the process of relegating the day to the pages of a history textbook.
Such rememberence is best left to the family room.

Coming from someone who lives in NYC, works in Manhattan, and has been around Downtown/Battery Park/Financial District/WTC more times than I can count:
Today is another work day for most of us. We still go into the office, we still do our jobs, it's no different than other days - save for the media circus circling about like half starved vultures.
A lot of people here and elsewhere lost people close to them on that day, or as a direct result of it. It wouldn't do any harm to stop and reflect for a moment, *privately*, on how those events have changed the world. It doesn't require ceremonies, TV shows or silly Hollywood dramatizations. You've never met a New Yorker if you think it does. That's all the media's horn-blowing that you're seeing.
Please also remember that here in NYC, we weren't the only ones affected directly on 9-11-01. United Flight 93 went down in Shanksville, PA. Additionally, the people aboard American Airlines Flight 77 that hit the Pentagon - that too was not here in NYC. (before you break out your tinfol hats and spout off theories about a second plane on the grassy knoll and maybe some UFO's doing damage to the Pentagon, please go read snopes: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pentagon.htm)
We'll get by just fine here in NYC. We appreciate all the sentiment, but really the average New Yorker wishes that the media would just bugger off and let us carry on. Al Qaeda made their political statement at the expense of a bunch of civilians. And it sparked a global sh*tstorm, like it or not. Bickering on a game forum will accomplish exactly nothing. Finding ways to resolve any issues and get our soldiers home and back out of harm's way once that is achieved is paramount.
And sure, Bush is well - less than ideal, and I'll keep my personal opinions out of here, as this isn't a political debate. But I challenge all of you who rant, rave, and flame each other to fully educate yourselves as to the events that lead up to 9-11, and why they did. You'll find the Clinton administration had no small part in ****ing off certain parties in the middle east, along with Bush Sr, Reagan, and yes even Carter. It's nothing new - go read your Chomsky for starters and find out why things are the way they are.
There are no 'innocent' governments, and criticizing one over another is an exercise in naivety. And so is assuming that a government is a proper indicator of the people it governs. Politicians have always been politicians - bickering over semantics means little. Let's work on the solution, not argue over the problem.
It's a sunny and beautiful 68* (F) here in NYC, can't bring myself to argue.

Put things in perspective and for the sake of those that are trying to keep the terrorism in check, be more respectful.
AMERRICAAAA! F**K YEAH! COMIN' IN TO SAVE THE MOTHERF**KIN' DAY YEEEEAH!
Anyway, are you serious? You do realize that this "War on terror" has had a completely opposite effect, right? Since it started, support in muslim nations for extremist Jihadists has been steadily rising, and has never been higher than it is right now.

Don't mind Wimbishi, he's an American military drone IRL so it's not surprising he so clueless.
My boots have more wit then both of you put together. I'm getting out very soon like in 5 1/2 months anyways. To much political crap in the military. I've had enough of it after 8 years of service and want to enjoy life with my new wife. Thats only to educate you since you are more clueless then me.
I hope he does so they can lock the thread. Everyone including myself have already railed off the thread from its purpose thanks going to ISS. this will be remembered in knowing the morality and caliber of people you two really are.

Let's pod all those people with a too big desire to wield their power, and then all NAP eachother and live in peace.
agreed. One of the few proper posts in this ******* stupid political hatred thread.

Edited by: Alejandro Zapata on 11/09/2006 18:41:52 Allow those who wish to honor the dead do so, it is their right in this forum of relatively free speech. Those that wish to debate the merits of the military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq should take it elsewhere.
To any of you that lost loved ones five years ago today, my thoughts and prayers (if you wish them) go out to you, and I hope life eventually becomes easier and better without them.

From a brit here in UK, 9-11 will be a day I'll never forget, my thoughts are to the victims and the families on this day.
The twin towers will remain symbolic to me that extremists will be wiped out one day and leaves me with the hope that normal peace loving people of this Earth no matter what creed, colour, race and religion will continue to prosper.

This thread will get the lock after my post. The reason behind this decition is that it really has no place on a forum like this. We have players from around the globe and a topic like this will only stir up a heated discussion and new conspiracy theories. Theories that we dont need.
Simply, there are other forums on the internet to discuss politics and the happenings of 9/11.
I hope you all can accept this.
