FYI, my anit-virus software just reported the Downloader.Zlob.DJW trojan horse in the EVEmon-install-1.1.2.181.exe file.

Edited by: tre introv on 11/09/2006 14:41:39 what anti virus are you using? I just ran scans with nod32, norton corp 10.1, and avg and didnt find anything.
I also updated each before scanning. It may just be a case of a false positive.

......haha? Seriously, besides nod32, I can't think of a single decent paid av out there. If by chance you were talking about norton or mcafee, replace this entire post with a 300 letter long stream of "ha ha's".

This by no means should be taken as the bible but it gives a decent comparison. Just a little fyi.

Is there any other confirmation of this? I am not a programmer, so examining the source is useless to me, as it is probably the same way for the majority of EVE players who use it. I agree somewhat that Norton AV is pure crap, it's more of a spyware program than anything else. I don't know about good free AV software, but Spybot is one of the best anti-spyware programs, and its totally free.

Kaspersky rocks!
Back in the day, Mcafee, Norton, etc were really good, but they just don't compete as they used too.
They aren't bad, not at all, but especially for the prices, they could be alot better.

Here is some info on the Zlob trojan. I noticed in the list of processes msmsgs.exe and nvcntrl.exe USED to be running on my computer. I thought they were harmless, but I always ended them for memory saving purposes. After I ran and installed Avast! and did the initial scan, it no longer appears on my processes. This had been on my computer for a long time, before I ran EVE-mon. Is it possible that your computer had already been compromised by this trojan, and infected files you downloaded? The intial scan from Avast! found one other trojan, and several adwares not detected by spybot, so its probably a good idea to use different programs to cover your bases.

Umm.. Msn Messenger and Nvidia control centre... Well done. Unless of course they were fake ones that the virus had made, that's possible, if that's the case I take back my mockage.

I've never had a problem with evemon its a sweet bit of kit. And while im no great programmer i dont see anything malicious in the small amount of time i looked at it.
As for anti virus i stopped using them after spending 3 days tracking and removing an evil virus that infected the antivirus couldnt figure out why i was still getting the virus after a format or 2 turned out it had infected the installer i had for my AV.
Strangely i have never had a problem with my comp since removing all Antivirus and firewall software, just means keeping a careful eye on the registry and processes. Paranoia create more problems than viruses

Edited by: Skraelingz on 12/09/2006 22:51:52 At work we consider norton and macafee to be essentially a virus you paid to install. Have fun uninstalling those heh.
as far as its detection goes pretty much all virus scanners are gonna catch stuff and miss stuff.

Its a false positive with the install software.
Try using the binary packages from the site, they wont suffer from the NSIS problem, but they wont install nicley for you either.

The people who didnt find the the virus should check there antivirus logs, its common for this kind of thing to be deleted without your knowledge and then a search for said virus will come up empty.
