Example: a cool name like Cerberus, cannot be used because its taken by this over 3 years old charachter. who ahs no corp history, i havent quite checked if he logged on, but CCP ahs this data. at the end this doesnt bother me, as iam never going to create another charachter. but for new players to name themselfs using numbers is jsut wrong. More jokes listening to your Fleet Commander trying his hardest to call primary. LUULRELAA is primary, 232ddwd2 is seconday, The thing is, their are millions upon millions upon millions of possible names that would sound good in EVE (without having to resorting to '1337'names, unless you want to) . Any supposed 'cool' name is only 'cool' because it is in reference to or a copy of something else that is well known. Anyone who wants to be called Cerberus can be......they just have to use their brain and think of a surname/forename they like... 'Cerberus Mikanto' or 'Cerberus Flyk' or 'Junto Cerburus' And just because a player only has a million sp or account has been inactive for 'x' amount of time, doesn't mean they won't come back (3 million sp, inactive for 2yrs...) The only possible way for CCP to do this would be to implement technology wherby if your account is unpaid for a certain period of time, your 'name' is freed, therby if someone else creates a character with that name, they get. If and when the original owner comes back, they are prompted to rename their character (this does happen on some mmo's that have specific theme's and account holders have 12 characters per server and like to sa***uard really good names that are applicable to that theme) Unfortunatley, it really wouldn't work with EVE, as the game is designed in a way that 1 character is meant to be your focus (only 3 character slots and can only train one of those characters at a time) And as I said, unless EVE had a few hundred million subscribers who all happened to live in the same country with the same cultural background with the same social upbringing and all have the same parents being born at the same time, then it will be very rare that someone who uses their imagination will come up with the same name

Also 1 mill sp chars that havent activated for 2-3 years, whats the propability of them coming back? well it was a trial account so therefore if they did coem back they re more likly to start a new account. unless they remembered the login details for over a year. At this point, CCP should start enforcing the 6 month thing they mentioned so long ago. A skillpoint cap would be a good idea indeed though - less than xx mil SP doesn't get deleted at all, or at least, later. EVE History Wiki - Help us fill it!

The name you see "in-game" is my handle, Not my name. If eve were real then I for one would NOT fly around with "Stephen Benjamin*****ayne" emblazoned across my ship or being broadcast across space. My friends know me as "Ben" all others know me as "Benco97". I ROLEPLAY a name with numbers in it, those numbers are important to me from a roleplay point of view. I find it alarming that some people would like to have my name changed purely due to it not fitting in with their naming schemes. The Biography tab is where the personal data goes, not into the name.. unless of course you'd also like my age/sex/location to show up too? Yes, that makes sense, if we're all using names that come from a rigid framework of viable titles then why not have that information there too, obviously you'd like my name to tell you all about me so you'd love the idea. Please, i'm tired of people complaining about names with numbers, do you complain to taxi firms and bus companies because you can't see the driver's full name? Just make a mental note of anything you think of when you're on the bus or train or suchlike. Surely you have an occasional moment of originality? You want to pee off someone calling fleet targets? If I had any slots left I'd try "Secondary Primary" or "Secondary Tertiary" or summat. However the first is probably already taken, but I reckon the second is obscure enough. Another problem with your idea. What if the previous owner of Cerberus was a scammer? Or the opposite, a great guy who you could use his name to rip off old mates? .. erm, and Holy Jihad as a corp name?

Haha, if this were the case you'd hear the cries of thousands of bazaar mules, suddenly silenced :P I've got a level 1 pally from 3 years ago, that I've never logged into since day 1, and my account has been down for 6 months at one point :P The only time there was ever a deletion was during server mergers, where chars under level 10 were deleted if they hadn't been played in 3 months. That was a one-time event. Most games have disclaimers that your account/characters can/will be deleted if inactive, but I've never heard of a game actually doing so. Rather than free up names for new players they'd prefer to keep accounts around in the off chance a player returns.

Masses will start claiming all sorts of popular names and resell, and no there's really no need to transfer the char either. The seller and buyer only has to join up when the seller reprocesses the char and he/she can claim the name seconds later. Plus even so some names represent a history even if it is an alt. Fr3nzi Caldari hirr Morsus Mihi	Posted - 2006.09.13 09:36:00 - [44] Some of us tend to like to use names consistantly over several games, me for instance alway use some form of "Frenzy" but unfortunately it tends to be quite a popular name so I hardly ever manage to get it. My reserve is Frenz which I usually get, after that Frenzi, Frenzee and Frenzie. All were already used in EVE and I was getting desperate so I used a 3. I regret using a number now especially as II used Frenzeee as my alt but hey ho. Its a bit annoying that the names mentioned above all seem to be inactive people who never even left their npc corps.

CCP could provide a paid service both to transfer a taken name on a character with low SP's that has been inactive for some time to a new character or even to change the name of an existing Char you own. I know I would pay for something like this and it earns CCP more money :D

I'm not going to cry that there's already someone who's grabbed the character out of a book, that I thought of and thought would be cool. Seriously, I cry every time I see yet another variant of characters from books, films, games or whatever. It's almost worse than 'l33tdud3z 2314331123' or othre names that seem to have been deliberately set up to be unpronouncable. So, rather than complaining at all the 'cool' names that are already taken, please instead start complaining at all the people who feel it's important to their EVE career to have a 'cool' name.

My main objection to recycling names is that there will always be situations where the name of another persons avatar has some sentimental reason to you despite them not playing anymore. A prime example of this is Madmanjake. A good RL freind of mine who died late last year. We built a memorial to him out of cans and bade him fly safe in the afterlife where the Eve sever never lags and you can always buy just the ship / module you want for a fair price. Seeing another pilot with his name would be weird and should that pilot ever stumble on the memorial we built (unlikely but possible) then that would be freaky. Yes the one mill and 2 years barrier would help aliviate that but where would it stop? Soon a group of people would petition for the six months CCP promise to be the limit. Also I¦m not a muslim scholar. Fact is that at least in the western world (fex. see Oxford English Dictionary,) jihad is understand as meaning holy war (you confirmed it in your own post). So the corp still mean holy holy war. One holy would serve the cause I would think.

But because you can't delete a corp, or in fact change the name/ticker of a corp there are some pretty limited options when picking a ticker. Oruborus was a name I once thought of using for a corp. (in fact I did on an alt) But you can't use ORB, ORU or any other reasonably related ticker because they are all taken. Now, if those are active corps. Thats all good. But corps with no active memebers should be deleted from the name pool. OR Allow special characters in corp names and tickers. Such as Paradigm spelled as P▲radigm. With ticker P▲. But you can't do that. You can type it in, and the game accepts it. I'd love to know who has "Dogmatix" and if they are active..heheh. I've never seen them online...lol. I used the name for several years in another gaming community and a lot of those people have now migrated to this game. I just wonder how much it might help the database if characters and their assets (if any..in station...out in space) were deleted after a period of inactivity. Maybe this is already done...I don't know.

I Didn't use my old "main" for a long long time and admittedly completely forgot the username and password, so I searched for him on the off chance that he still existed. He didn't, so I made him again.. he is kinda crap now though and only serves to as caretaker whilst we play elsewhere. The info on the corp Phaze-9 shows this, Founder and CEO, same name but if you click the info, two very different pilots. Everywhere I look, people all say CCP doesnt wipe characters. I beg to differ, not that im complaining.
