Edited by: DarKRealm on 13/09/2006 06:37:27 Hello CCP Team,
I hope it's the correct forum?!
I'm speaking german and I'm glad to see that EVE is german now but some translations are very bad. I only found few things but I will report you any "issue" in the future.
- mein cargo should be "Mein Laderaum" or better "Mein Frachtraum"
- used cargo space is trans. to "Energiespeicher" I think it should be "KapazitSt" or "LadekapazitSt"
- Signature Resolution SignaturSufl÷sung why is it Signaturradiusaufl÷sung?
- Description of 125mm prototype I Gauss Gun Die 125mm ... groŻer Bruder. Sie hat zwar eine deutlich h÷here Schussrate ist jedoch nicht so Wirkungsvoll...
- Description of Piranha Light Missle .. Die Piranha ist eine kleine Rakete mit Nuklear-Gefechtskopf. Sie beruht auf einem klassischen Minmatar-Design, das seit den frnhen Tagen des Minmatar-Widerstandes in Gebrauch ist. It's not necessary to translate a typical name like Minmatar to "minmatarischen"
- Description of 1MN Microwarpdrive I ...Masse des Schiffs beeinflusst... I think it's better then "begrenzt" ...Energie aus dem Energiespeicher und dem Schild abgezogen werden muss...
Shield = Schild not Schirm :) abgezogen not gezogen
I think it's much more in the translations but it's hard to get all informations from each item. Does exist a file of all description to correct them?
Best regards DarKRealm

Thats why I suppose to use the english language.
Would love to see only english, without any translations for the client, even if I'm german.
Think about a talking about something (Descriptions, Briefings, etc.) with someone who has installed a different language. This will not work I can assure you.
Get rid of the translations CCP.

Edited by: Elea Electronica on 13/09/2006 10:56:32 atm the German translation is a Horror most is incorrect or some words are missing. And yes it is not a good thing to Translate words like optimal or falloff and so on also thinks like Minmatar Missiles as DarkRealm said is not a good thing to translate it. in the Description of the german BPC¦s the english word Copy is Translatet into Kopieren ???? Kopie is correct.
in the Occator Description "bieten einen hervorragenden Schutz fnr jede von Ladung," the word "art" is missing it sould be "bieten einen hervorragenden Schutz fnr jede art von Ladung,"

Do we get lecturing payments when we do your work? Don't feel like coping with bad German when not being paid

Edited by: Siri Blue on 13/09/2006 12:27:08 Ok...so I enabled the German translation... ACK! Login screen:
Status: "#1 in der Schlange" sounds aweful Better: "#1 in der Warteschleife" (though that still sounds strange)
"Verbinden Sie, um fortzufahren" either "Klicken Sie 'Verbinden' um fortzufahren" OR BETTER: nothing in this space...a button "Verbinden" should be self-explanatory
Next step: The character selection... looks nice overall...just one little thing...
"Ist X tage Mitglied der XXX Corporation"
"tage" is supposed to be written with a capital T "Tage"
Also this sounds better:
"Ist seit X Tagen Mitglied der XXX Corporation"
P.S.: nice you didn't translate Corporation "Gesellschaft" sounds aweful ;)

Oh...to the OP of the thread...
English Shield can be translated into German as BOTH "Schild" OR "Schirm" "Schutzschirm" is a valid translation..."Schutzschild" is just more common

ok.. yes that's true but all is better then "Schirm" sounds a bit strange :)
"Schutzschild" is the best..
It seems I'm one of the few which is playing EVE in german
no problem mephysto...
I think it's not a bad idea if CCP makes a kind of "fan workshop" where german speaking peoples can register, so they can correct the items and the GUI step by step. It will be nice if this people will get some kind of payment like playing EVE for free few months or an visit at CCP :) It's clear that it's depend on how much you have done.
However if I find horrible mistakes I will post them here :)

Edited by: Elea Electronica on 13/09/2006 16:55:33 The other prob is that some of the Manufacturing and Science dialogboxes are to smal if you play in german and you cant read someting then in the as a example Copy dialog. if i remember it was the Runs and Copy Field that is overwritten.
and pls dont translate the Division Names of Agents that can later be a funny thing if you ever translate the client into Cyrilic

Thx for the reports. A part of the problems listed here is already fixed in Kali. The main problem in the German translation is that some translated words are just too long. THe translation team is constantly searching for shorter translations. Another problem is the German grammar. The client does not support all of the constructs. Therefore, some of the translations might sound a bit odd. This does of course not apply to the item descriptions. Please report all translation mistakes or bad wording that you find there.

Wouldn't it be somehow possible to make the whole language discussion process more public? Like a forum for it, some sort of db or maybe even a Wiki. Before i switched back to the english client i also saw lots of smaller and bigger issues, but i'm also pretty sure that they have been reported at least partly and i don't want to take the time to collect everything just to hear 'already known and fixed'. -------------------------------------- Agent & Mission-Info: http://www.eveinfo.com |

English words are far more common in German everyday language (and especially computer related language) than most might believe, which might be a solution to some of those cases. I have yet to really try the German client version, got really irritated when it set itself to German automatically - I switched back to English right away :)
A sort of involvement of the german player base would be an awesome idea imo! And you can still pay your translator guy(s) to moderate that area instead, so you don't have to fire them ;)
