Ok, lets have it.
What is THE best Assault frigate out there, whos got the best DPS whilst being able to tank enough damage. Whats the best when it comes to solo flying, whats the best when it comes to small gang warfare?
So.. whats the ULTIMATE assault frigate?

I hear a lot of people touting the Ishkur/Enyo. I've never flown them, but I gotta tell you I LOVE my Jaguar and have beaten both Ishkurs and Enyos (and have been beaten by them too) so I'd say it really depends on your skills - both your skillpoints and your abilities as a pilot.

Never flown one, but on paper, the jag makes me drool. Very nice even shield resist, plus the ability to choose damage types. You might as well be shooting spitballs with a Harpy against a Gallente or Caldar AF.

Jag and Ishkur are my favourites.
Harpy is very good for fleet support though, can get 100k range with it reasonably easily which pops support frigs approaching main fleet very well.

Ishkur seems to be winning thus far then...
I'll be purchasing an Ishkur on Friday, so its looking a good choice then.

I love my harpy, the t2 rails can suck your cap a bit but just shove a t2 em hardener on it and you have a decent tank while having room to put a scrambler/webber/ab on. Probably isnt the best af, as i aint flown other races, but its still good

i have been having success with the enyo. only problme with it is the limited predictable options.
4 T2 ion blasters or 4 T2 125mm rails
i found that the high damage output enyo versus a high tank enyo serves better. although its fragile and better when you have several ships flying about with you this is the blaster equiped version
the rail enyo on the other hand is better with a decent tank.
in a fleet you want the extra dmage of the enyo gunboat at your side. specially when there is a squadron of at least 2 or 3 of em.
ishkur on the other hand is a droneship. better suited in the tackling roll, and having its drone do the most damage.
ive not got too much experiance with the other assalt ship varents, but i know that the enyo can solo 2 retributions and a wolf if you setup for long range rails, and they only have short ranged pulses or autos. only problem is unless you fit a scrambler they can run away and come back within a few minuets. so unless you have a MWD and or stabs you will have to keep fighting keeping outta range untll your ammo goes, or renforsments in the form of interceptors come in. possibly both.
assalt ships are not ment to be solo pwan mobiles but some of them come close to it. they work so much better in frigate groups.
/me dreams of seeing a group of ishtars, incursus and enyos flying about.

I myself am finding that I like the vengeance.
today I had a run in with an enemy T2 javelin torp raven.
he couldn't break my tank with it
so atm I rate the vengeance, the ishkur and the jaguar as pretty nasty beasts. -------

enyo's have a tremendous power reserve for fittings
4 T2 neutrons, 1 rocket launcher, MWD and tank can all fit and obviously pumps out incredible amounts of damage. best in small gangs mind you

I like the Wolf for tackling, the Ishkur for damage and the Jag for speed. But I could not get both good damage and a reasonable tank on the Jag, so I got rid of that one. On the fence about Hawk and Harpy, but I have one of each. |

Edited by: zevex on 14/09/2006 05:37:31 There is no question that the Retribution has a fantastic tank, and dishes out decent damage, but it onlt has one midslot so it is lousy for PvP.
The Jag and the Enyo seem to be at the top of their game when engaging any assault frigs other than themselves and eachother. All other AF's should tremble in their presence, unless you are a sniping Harpy who has warped in at range(in which case the Jag/Enyo simply warps away).
The setup that I fly on my Jag does 180+ DPS and has a nice passive tank. The only frig calss vessles that can break my tank before I kill them is the Enyo, a highly skilled Crow, or another Jag. (The Retribution can as well, but he does not count, as he cannot keep me as a target if I don't want him to.)
So at the end of the day, I think that the Jag wins. It's the only one that can pick and chose which targets to engage, catch them, and then actually hold them down. All the while doing decent damage with a decent tank.

I would say ishkur and jaguar. Ishkur packing warrior 2's is a nasty beast. I absolutely love my jaguar too. I find enyos are really lackign with only 2 mids as they can't web. Without the web they are pretty predictable if you just look at them as you're approaching. If i see they have blasters you just have to sit at around 7km and comfortable shoot away in your falloff. If they have rails on just zoom up real close and pound them in close. Granted i have always been in a jag for them. If i see an ishkur i'm usually like **** it and i leave.

Nice sig, shame about the unfounded and explaination-free comment
Harpy is great, but very specalised. Not the best all-rounder. And yes, I do fly one.

I'm pretty sure a skilled Ishkur pilot can outdamage an enyo. Same damage bonus, one less gun, but a more drone-based DPS.
