Originally by: Alerce Of course there is a reason for EVE 2. Its something every mmo game will run into, no matter how many expansions. There is a limit till how far you can let characters develop, without making the game too easy or to make it impossible for new chars to keep a chance. Its already way too tricky now for ccp, to invent new skills, without boosting the damage of players too fast.
So, that is a reason that an EVE 2 makes sense: fresh start for everyone in a game, that would be mostly similiar and would provide another X years of character development.
I realize that it may be many many years before CCP would even consider making a different game or perhaps even elaborate a new EVE 2. However i do believe that its not farfetched to believe that CCp would make a sequel simply because of what this person has said. ATM EVE is growing a lot, 3 years after its creation. It has changed radically since it began. But there will come a point (maybe not yet but in the forseeable future) where EVE will come to a standstill. Because of stagnated growth, not enough ideas to improve tha game unless it would radically change game play etc.
However i still ask my question: IF there was a new EVE what would u like to implement, or perhaps see it implememted in the current game?

Doubt there will ever be an EVE 2. I can see CCP upgrading and adding content to the game over time. EVE is just going to keep growing and growing and getting better with every passing day

I see EVE growing and getting better for many years to come. I guess i just think its natural for all games to come to a point where expanding is a decision of wether doing something so drastic that itl change the game too much, or simply change simple things that wont attract new players. Dont get me wrong this is not a post to ask for the next EVE. I will keep playing this game for as long as i can, and its the one game out there that gives the option to do as i please whenever i please. but i do think at some point in a few years CCP "may" consider a new game to give players a fresh start and a different timeline. I may be dead wrong, but i just think its a natural step for all major games.
I think that if it eve happens well get something like this: -new timeline w shifts in power -new sectors of space -many new gameplay options such as planet colonization (not simply having stations there) -ofc new ships as itl be in a different timeline (most likely in the future) -Perhaps even a new race/faction (maybe another civil war within gallente and someone else split off. Or the amarian lost another colony w/e)
I dont know but i just think its natural for all major/influential games to get a total remake when they reach a point fo stagnation.
If u look at Lineage 2 its preactically there already, all they add is more lvs and more subclasses for u to keep grinding. Look at the original EQ, that game had expansion after expansion, to the point where all u had where new areas/classes/lvs.(though for some reason they seriously dropped the ball on EQ2 ) I believe someday (maybe another 3-5 yr) EVE will come to a point where it must evolve to something newer to give its players something fresh, not simply adding ships and 0.0 sectors or w/e.
For now lets enjoy this game and all it has to offer and what the future brings. I simply asked what u guys would like to see in the event CCP would create a new eve OR what would u like to see implemented in the near future.

Name a successful "2" MMO, pls.
Lineage II is the only one I can think of. All the other succeeded at sucking, and killing the business of the first version.

There won't be an Eve 2 as such - this much is obvious from the way Eve has evolved in the past. Maybe there will be a 'major expannsion' that requires a further outlay but I can't see that either, it's just not how CCP do things.
There is, however, another project in the pipeline - I can't divulge what little (second hand) detail I know but I'm told CCP are very excited about it.

U may be right perhaps L2 is the only succesful mmo to be a sequel, and ill reinstate that thats mainly in korea due to the fact that NA L2 is on a losing track due to its incoherence to NA players. However the mmorpg business as we know it today is relatively new. There have only been a handfull of succesful games. EQ had to get its sequel not because SOE wanted to make something new, it simply wasnt growing any further. They had nothing to maintain/get players to play the game. Wether they did a sorry ass job in the sequel is another topic, but all it takes is a company that will recreate its visions so the old players can be satisfied, while providing something new that will break new boundaries for the nex-gen.
So far sequels have a bad reputaion, all u have to do is play the 1st and then see the second to see if that company stayed true to the original fan base and that should answer why they are not succesful. Btw just to say something EQ2 may totally suck for many of the 1st original fans but it hasnt stopped it from getting new players and keep a growth going.
Its all about bussiness and when the original game stops growing after many years then its time to get something new out. At the same time you can see there arent that many sequels out due to the fact that most mmos fail with their first inseption. I think the genre needs time in order to start making better sequels while bringing something new to the table which may bring in more people to play cuz at the end fo the day its a bussiness. If CCP made a drastic change that would **** off all players atm, yet gain all the 6m WOW players, then i bet ur ass they would do it, it all about money (btw i hate wow so dont flame that comment, its a crappy game tbh).
Anyway i know CCP will keep this game going for many years to come and many of us will be here to keep enjoying it, in the mean time what do u guys think CCP would implement in the near future beyond Kali?

The thing is... EVE is the only mmo that has been ~steadily growing~ since it has been let loose on the market. I don't know of any other mmo that could say the same, heh.
Oh and creating an EVE2 where you had to restart training your character would probably kill CCP, at least for a while.
I hope they just keep expanding it, as if they changed it too much (like, shifting combat from biggish ships to fighters as usual in space games) most players probably wouldn't like it. (not that i don't have some things i absolutely loathe in EVE and would jump on a similiar but even better product immediately *nudges ccp* but meh , it's still the best for now, and odds are forever, as the other devs are too afraid to step out of the mold of conventional mmos)

All of those features can be bolted onto the current Eve. No need to create Eve 2.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

Id rly like to see planet/moon colonization. Not simply putting a POS there, but perhaps have a moon/planet as ur HQ and thus fortify the whole thing. U could only do this to one of them, but it would make for a badass fort. May be a bit hard to take down but the balancing issue is in the devs hands. IN either case i simply want to be able to dock in a station placed on a moon/planet.

EVE can keep growing and growing anyway. Imagine this in 10 years or so: Once an alliance has an outpost, they can start developing the nearby planet in a sim city-like minigame and than when an enemy alliance attacks the planet, you can go fight them in an fps minigame. Also have enemies boarding ships or stations and fighting them fps style inside there!
Well that's my dream for EVE although it'll probably never happpen...
Incorrect. All those who go on saying that all MMO's that have a "2" in there title have failed havn't looked into Lineage 2. It is doing just fine, and has a much bigger player base then Eve even though it's been out longer then eve.
So yes I think a eve 2 could suceed, thought maybe a better name then "eve 2" would be appropiate.
What would I want to see in it? well a new story line based on the far future after the major galactic all out war with the fractions...the political landscape whould have drasticaly changed. Now regions found. changes on where 0.0 and empire are, and totally new set of ships etc.
Well, what you fail to mention is that the original Lineage still exists and actually is bigger than Lineage 2 (at least it was last time I checked, MMOGchart seems down so dunno if it's still the case). And also the enormous success of Lineage in Asia... saying that Lineage 2 has a bigger player base than Eve is pretty retarded, it's a completely different game in a different market. So while it may be successful compared to Eve, it's really not compared to the original game.
