This turned into a long story, my posting sucks, you probably shouldn't read it.
Having a space job and managing thousands of reactor farms isn't the most fun thing to do in Eve. The POS mechanics and management system are god awful and tedious to manage, and really make the game less fun.
In my state of pure boredom and tired of talking about fixing null ore anomalies, I was reminded by an associate that I could always day trip down to empire and dabble with some highsec gankery. Being that I have had a 5.0 sec status for years now, I figured that I'd give it a shot.
It took us about an hour to get set up- moving from Deklein to high sec was pretty quick with instaceptors, and then using our own freighter alts to haul in enough fit t2 catalysts for us to play with for as long as we'd ever want to. Other than having fit ships, my associate and I had no idea what to expect, nor the extent of ships that we could successfully take out.
We first arrived at a mackinaw shooting some rocks in a random belt- I know that mackinaws can get pretty tanky, but we decided to give it a shot anyways. A mere 5 seconds later, the mackinaw was vaporized sporting a pretty unique fit.
Awesome! Nothing like our first successful highsec gank. Being that I'm not totally an ******* most of the time, I convoed the guy and inquired about his interesting choice in mods (or lack thereof). He told me that he had just resubbed and was rather upset that his ship was blown up. Rather than rub it in or whatever normal gankers do, I actually gave him a pat on the back, apologized that he was the first random kill of the day, and give him a nice "welcome back to eve :)". I even gave him some recommendations on how to fit it better and even that he could make more isk/hour running missions or doing basically anything else than what he was doing in a much cheaper ship. He was thankful and went on his way. Damn, I'm such a nice guy.
Rather than just reship and gank the same system again, we decided to head back to home base and scout out some fresh targets. Using one of my several hundred afk cloaking alts, I found a mackinaw mining away at a belt in a nearby system. This guy was much more clever than the last one. He had concord already spawned at the belt, as well as his own scorpion alt next to him. Because I'm generally awful at Eve, I accidentally got too close on my cloaked alt and decloaked. The miner didn't budge; knowing that if I touched him, I would be instantly concordokkened. I don't like being smugged on, so I decided to go ahead and scan him to see what I was going up against. An okay tank, nothing major. I don't know if being scanned happens frequently in highsec, but that would be an instant red flag to me. This miner, accompanied by his alt in a scorpion and concord, fearlessly chipped away at the asteroids around him.
All of a sudden, concord started to align and warp away. As they did, two freshly minted catalysts emerged from the nether and simultaneously engaged the once smug miner. Melting within seconds, the mackinaw exploded (with pretty neat graphics, I might say- one of the few times I've ever turned graphics on high), spewing the pod and its contents all over the belt. Just as I locked up the pod, the scorpion finally locked me. And then I was dead; Concord had come back whence they departed earlier.
As we were warping back to reship, we continued scouting for our next targets. Hulk, Hulk, Mackinaw, Mackinaw, Skiff, Orca, all in the same belt. In retrospect, I should have batphoned some more friends to come help, but I only have one friend and he was already with me.
Just us two, we quickly waited down our timers and reshipped, staying down wind of the unsuspecting miners. AFK Cloaker #67 was already at the belt, waiting for us, 5km off of the group of miners. My friend and I quickly talked about the order of events and which target to hit. Concord was called to a POCO for some reason just as two catalysts landed on grid with the exhumers. Being outnumbered and overgunned, we quickly locked up targets and engaged. Oops, I shot the wrong guy, I'm pretty awful. Luckily, my not awful friend realized I was shooting the wrong target and quickly switched over to help me. Hulk down. Mission Accomplished .
For a few tens of million ISK, I had an absolute blast. There is nothing quite like hunting out unsuspecting prey and the subsequent bloodlust after your first kill. I, too, have miners of my own- yet I did not hesitate one second going out and suicide ganking in unknown space. I urge everyone to try it at least one time, as I just did last night. All you need is a catalyst, t2 blasters, some damage rigs, and full damage mods in the lows. I'm bad so I don't know what they are all called. Go find an unsuspecting Hulk or Mackinaw and become one with the catalyst. I recommend sending them an apology message after the fact for being the random victim of the day, and give them a salutary "welcome to eve".
Bottom line- try something new, have a lot of fun. Suicide ganking is a great and cheap place to start.
tl;dr: go try a suicide gank one time if you've never done it before- you won't regret it- as long as you kill something, hah! |

The amusing thing being that prepping or pulling concord away is fine though During a threadnaught a couple months back a GM actually chimed in on this. Too lazy to dig up the exact post, but the jist was basically 'what's good for the goose is good for the gander'. concord can still be drawn away with discount donuts long enough for the dirty to happen, so it's not a huge deal.

Seems like a pretty big deal if you can keep them on grid 100% of the time using a low security alt. Pulling concord is also not a good thing. Clearly both exploiting of CONCORD AI.

Usually anything posted by a goon isn't worth reading, but I gotta admit... this was a good read. And yeah suicide ganking can be a lot of fun for the aggressor. Done it only a few times, but it was with corpmates and using alts to remove competition in a system overcrowded by AFK/bot miners. Have to say, it was indeed a lot of fun, and we only botched a single gank despite us using a mish-mash of dessies and not the "god-of-ganking" catalysts. :P
Mario: It's also been confirmed by CCP that pulling concord is a 100% legitimate tactic for either side. Not an exploit. |

Can someone explain why asteroid belts still exist and why barges/exhumers are still able to be produced? Seems if they were removed and minerals were seeded, you could actually have a game where you don't shoot stupid worthless targets that never should of existed in the first place because the vessels are so damn stupid (the pod should blow up with the ship and they should lose SP, like a T3 to save you ammo). No, never had mining vessel if mine ganked as I quickly realized how fcking boring it was, just seems if asteroids where removed, minerals seeded, the vessels and their SP not refunded back by CCP, you would actually have a more interesting game instead of paper target bragging (I r awsume! where you sound like you have mental impediments) or training to be a clay pigeon / that goat tied like in the move Jurassic Park shortly before its eaten (still cannot figure out Why would any want to be a miner? Go play minesweeper or solitaire FFS, more distracting than CCP's poor mini game of sitting in belts doing nothing).
tl;dr aspect is just get rid of asteroids in general, game is far more interesting when you watch actual fights that is not some fat dude who saying how good they are at doing the easiest thing in game, like listening to someone say they are great at level 4 mission bashing |

That gave me a Great Idea Ill get my Freighters of Thousands of fitted procurers and ECM drones for you to sucide gank and target now that would be fun.

I am Ok with you creating content and applying Darwin law in EvE.
But, with all the thousands guys out there, you just HAD to exploit and corral Concord away, despite it's not OK for CCP?
Because I see you try and switch to a general "third person" but it's clear it's your (and / or your friend's) alts who corral Concord away, you even give it away (twice) when you say what you have done to a ship.
So, +1 for doing something active and fun, but -3 for cheating (does not matter the miners did too).

I wouldn't disagree with you but concord stays on grid until down time, so there needs to be a way to move them.

1) Just because "the law" does not ban you, does not mean you are not cheating (or are a poor sport anyway). You can cheat your wife all life long and, even if discovered, you won't see the evil CCP man come to your house and put you to jail. However you still cheated.
2) If you feel so straight why did you put the sentences in third persons and used allusions?
3) I have seen, lived, done and been all the oddest roles about miners ganking I could write a book. But in that book I could not write "Concord stays on grid until down time" because while technically correct, it never happens in any vaguely populated system. In order to get that situation you really need to dig HARD and go so in some deep region in the middle of nowhere where you find that lone dude and then you have to waste half hour to hop around to find the next. On the contrary, you seem to have the natural (and popular) attraction to juicy belts with stuff to pop without getting old and this involves active systems, where Concord is not going to stay up there for that long. In case of doubt you could just play and pop miners at another belt (if it's not ice / lone belt) so Concord goes there. Next, you have a Concord free belt in the first location. And here you go, a shiny sport record!

You are forgetting that each new GCC costs 15min time. Waiting for another player to remove a spawn for you is silly ... ... and wasting another fifteen minutes to remove them, via a second GCC, is silly as well.

I learned that it didn't even matter that someone was pulling concord- someone was only pulling one instance of concord and there were two of us. For the concord trick to fully work, someone would have to pull one group of concord for each person suicide ganking.
I'll take that +3 back, thank you. |

Go play minesweeper or solitaire FFS, more distracting than CCP's poor mini game of sitting in belts doing nothing). tl;dr aspect is just get rid of asteroids in general, game is far more interesting when you watch actual fights that is not some fat dude who saying how good they are at doing the easiest thing in game, like listening to someone say they are great at level 4 mission bashing
I suspect that if they were making a new game CCP would definitely not include anything resembling mining. But they are afraid that eliminating it would lose a lot of subscribers who do mine and possibly wreak havoc on the general economy. |

You love the "meta" enough to have it as a corp name, right? In my "meta", circumventing mechanics is cheating even if it's not CCP's "meta" (and therefore they won't forbid it). It's really like the "ISBoxer" debate: CCP did not forbid it but some guys felt like it was similar to cheating anyway.
ISBoxer too had that rather "open ended" CCP wording, explaining "for now it's OK but we can change our minds". Once it ran rampant, CCP "changed their minds" if I recall correctly. If Concord corraling ever went out of control stay sure CCP would change their mind over that too.
Gray area and stuff. I don't like gray areas, they make people use the third person like in the OP .

Concord coralling is used on almost every gank in highsec. In fact, its considered bad mannered in the ganking communities to *not* pull Concord after a gank(its a pain for the next ganker).. If there was ever a point where it was "out of control", we have definitely passed that point. |

I have a lot of respect for you but you are way off base here. You did not address what I said at all.
Do you feel if one gank takes place in a particular spot, there should be no more ganking in that particular spot for the entire day? Let's keep in mind we are all trying to have fun. Having such a rigid situation does not sound like fun. There needs to be a way to move them or they need to despawn in a reasonable amount of time.

No, I actually believe Concord sitting forever somewhere has no sense. It doesn't even happen with "RL police". It should despawn after some minutes. Would auto-despawn affect some of the many EvE mechanics in a negative way? I don't recall (so many months I don't undock any more, I got rusty ).

It would be a modest buff to solo gankers. Mainly because right now if someone double ganks in a system then it can become impossible to pull Concord off grid. |

Good catch...CONCORD blows up your 5 million isk catalyst and gives you (but not your alts!) a 15 minute timeout. It's almost as harsh as the penalties for dealing drugs in Singapore. I mean, what will they think of next., perhaps a 12 isk fine as well? |

Well... the loss of billions of isk is inevitable when you fly untanked ships. Same goes for all ships of all sizes. Would you fly an untanked titan knowing that all of eve space is a potential pvp zone. If anything i feel that ganking can teach those whom are new or careless that if you fly untanked ships, you will lose them regardless of what kind they are.
And what is there to nerf? nerf pvp? lol this is not the game for you. Nerf catalysts? Along comes the rocket corax. I used to like reading your stuff but its just become so unfruitful and tedious. not impressed. |

Everything is permitted unless it isn't. So much hangup over the word crime when much of what I described above would be considered crimes (even though they aren't) by the losers. Also, your catalysts keep getting cheaper and cheaper. A fully fit "Incursus of Holy Flagellation" runs about 10 to 12 mil, depending on the quantity and quality of the ammo, drugs, and hookers in the cargo hold. If it in the process of doing something that someone else considers to be a very bad thing, manages to go boom, I would be out about 10 to 12 mil. Just like any other ship with weapons on it, it can destroy other ships. Sometimes those ships are worth 'billions and billions'. The catalyst pilot's loss is guaranteed, and if they are not already -10, they will be one step closer.
What I am saying is that they already suffer steeper penalties for what they do. The ISK value of their lost ship is no more or less important than the ISK value of their exploded victim, because ISK is not a tank. Irrelevant, that's the word I was looking for. You call it a slap on the wrist because they adapt to the new environment inflicted on them by the mechanics. If only other portions of the player base would adapt to their environment changing.... then threads like these would be less frequent, or necessary.

The problem is that you can repeatedly commit crimes with a 5 mil isk frigate...inflict tens of billions of isk in damage, and face no real consequences. That is called a broken and dysfunctional criminal justice system. |

meta 4 is usually right around 10 mill market value (cheaper if you build the pieces you can build yourself like rigs and the damage mods).

Yes absolutely, with safes and an orca full of shuttles or noob ships (or even just empty ones abandoned at safes) you can clear as many concord as you need to with one person in a single GCC timer.

You are right, awoxxing is a disaster and is broken. That's why CCP wants to get rid of it. And the fact that CONCORD blows up your ship and gives you a 15 minute GCC timer belies the idea that the only meaningful punishment is player based. Punishing suicide gankers should not be left to players who, at most, can destroy some crummy cheap gank ship. Only CCP is capable of imposing meaningful punishments that can actually deter some of the activity in question. |

The 15 minute timer is only important if my scout finds the next target before it has run out... normally it takes me that 15 mins to pull concord, write a letter offering a mining permit to the criminal that had his illegal equipment confiscated, and in the rest of the spare time I can be refitting new cats/coercers/thrashers... and, of course, scouting out the next criminal.

Look, I think threat should be taken care of as well. As long as the criminal justice system does not work, there is no rational reason for highsec players to join player corps. Until the system is fixed....people will rationally choose to remain in npc corps.
Gankers expose themselves to no real risk. They can inflict billions of isk in damage in cheap gank ships...never needing to risk undocking in an expensive ship. They can make their isk on nullsec alts in blue donut space.

How does a suicide gank deny another group of players the ability to make isk?
Those players could do any of the following to make isk: -Use a skiff -Use a procurer -Fit a decent tank -Run missions -Do literally anything else in eve
Mining is the worst income/hr in the game right now bar none. The reason it is so low is because it scales so easily in having multiple accounts. Even with the nerf to broadcasting, you can still easily mine with 20 retrievers, a hauler, a tank and a booster. As long as CCP keeps mining as is, it will always be the worst profession for any individual player with one or even two accounts.

If they choose to ignore the methods of defending themselves from gankers I have zero sympathy for them. I also think that you vastly overstate the number of active combat awoxers (and therefore the threat they pose). In addition filtering out awoxers is something you can fairly reasonably do. You won't catch all of them but you will be able to catch the obvious ones (which is most of them).
