Waay to many secure cans just floating around littering space serving NO pupose most of the time. Never anyone mining near them. Cans should expire if maybe not used for a week. Else they should NOT be indestructible give them maybe 5000 hp or summat but at least we could clear em up ourselves. What the hell they made out of why arent ships armour built out of this stuff if its indesructable? Lets Petition CCP now Clean up Space. Maybe only allow 5 anchored cans per person any more an you have to get your existing ones.

I agree. Definately should expire if not opened/utilised for a week (or less).

Edited by: PhamNuwen on 22/10/2003 13:48:58 Edited by: PhamNuwen on 22/10/2003 13:48:11 maybe add a feature to steal/open them: - new skill - chance to get caught from 90%..50%; depending on skill (catch means: at least an security hit; maybe without CONCORD, but you are flagged as criminal (for 10min...1h ONLINE-Time; means can be killed on sight)).
- add the possibility to steal/remove cargos to NPC-Pirates: at spawn loactions --> high capture rate; outside off it (more than 500km) --> very low rate
NPC-LowRate: once per week emptied; once per month stolen/destroyed NPC-HighRate: once per 4 hours emptied; once per week stolen/destroyed
Not in fix intervalls, but +/-50% of this time.

Edited by: Ruffles on 22/10/2003 14:44:41 Ohhh sod off.
People have to pay for these cans, and then a skill to train to use them so they don't disappear whilst in space, and now people just don't want them?
First pirates complain of loot invulnerability, then that they are untidy and littering space, come on.
I daren't ask what profession you are in, but at the end of the day they serve as a very very useful corp member exchange point, can be left somewhere with some goods for someone to open and collect without you having to be there at the time to trade, etc.
The uses are tactically beneficial also for long duration operations away from bases of operation, or where there are no offices available in a system.
Or should we all just say, hang on those asteroids are looking untidy and cluttering up space, they should all disappear after a week also?
Yeah, thats right. First secure cans weren't good enough for pirates to have a skill, so the buyer had to get another skill and buy the container and carrying the container isn't secure unless anchored and NOW thieves want more ways to steal from them? At this rate all the game will be will be pirates against pirates.
Think logically. If you are flagged as a criminal who does it tell? Who is informed you are free game for the next hour? Why should it? If you have pulled off a successful job, most successful thieves would silently drift away unoticed, why would you want then to be noticed?

Do to server reasons secure cans should probably be limited to a certain number. One person shouldn't be able to have unlimited amounts of cans all over the place.

I think crysania makes sense. Some sort of numerical limit should be placed on the number of anchored cans at any given time. Something that is based upon your anchoring skill just like everything else seems to makes sense to me. Also I would like to see no anchored cans within 150km of a jumpgate or station. Lets clean up our spaceways and get rid of this litter!!!!

I think the limitation on the anchoring of containers is handled well by this distance restriction. An Anchored can (when working properly) cannot be anchored with 5,000m of another anchored can, asteroid or object.
The costs of the cans and the work needed to space them out should keep the numbers down to a easily managed level.

So what you are saying is that I having the role of scouting out good 0.0 systems and creating suply dumps should not be able to anchor more than a finite number of cans?
I agree fully that within a sertcin number of meters, say 50000m from a station or a gate you shouldnt be able to anchor cans but in a roid belt or at a celestial object... well thats what they were created for.
The cans were implemented to give miners a way to hold ore safely while on mining expeditions aparently, now you want to limit their use in this field??
You might as well make jetison cans steal proof then and we all know what kind of replies such posts get.
So in short, a can anchored within 50km of a station or a gate should be salvaged by the stations crew and considered salvaged and lost, but cans out in the "wild" should be left alone.

When Eve came out there was no intention that cans would be used to store massive quantities or ore. This was a player created situtation. Then came the ore theives and players demanded a way to secure their loot in space.
If every player dumped cans all over the place, there would be nothing but cans all over. With a limited number of cans, you would have to pick up a few cans you have left in some region you forgot about, rather than just leave them there.

I agree with Crysty there, with the amount of cans being dumped that puts a great strain on low bandwidth players and could cause them to crash or lag to death. Just think for a moment, is so many cans could be dumped somewhere to lag players... high bandwidth pirates could use this as an expliot to lag people until they are defecless.
What do you guys think of that?

here is an idea. sort of funny but it might work
Littering Fines. ok before you start laughing your rear off, hear me out. if a player/corp has more then say 5 sec cans tossed out in a single location in empire space. a fine is given per can per day untill the situation is fixed. --------- M F caulsing havoc one frigate at a time. |

Well let me check, to date I think I have 3+5+12+8+2, thats 30 cans out in 0.0 that I can think of right off the top of my head and as that is nowhere close to 1000 I guess Im safe :)
