What the eve's Dev's views of use of the Logitech G15 Keyboard ? Like I don't mind using this to program macros (not spammy ones) and sort cuts for commands. However is using this keyboard going to get my account canned by the EVE admins?

At some point a Dev (think is was Eris) said G15 keyboards are allowed.

Here is the link to the quote, but if you want to know for sure if something like the G15 is allowed file a petition, as it is the official way to get an answer.

I wanted this keyboard, not for the programable keys (sounds too technical for me)
Just because it looks snazzy :) Could not find one locally. Then i bought my beer tokens for the month, and now can't justify the purchase to the boss.

Just so you know I have a G15 here and it's no big deal. The programmable keys are the only reason one would want it because otherwise, it's a pretty bad keyboard IMHO. First off, the keys are sized and placed slightly differently than standard keyboards, making adaptation a drag. I've used it for months and it still felt weird.
Also, it's inclined backwards. Even with the support tabs up, it still feels inclined backwards. Another problem is the fact the key markings aren't much visible unless it's really dark and you are using the back light. This problem is accented by the first one.
Finally, it uses like 75 megs of drivers and apps to drive the stupid little display which as far as I can see has to be programmed for every game (and of course, nobody cares for it so there's only a handful of supported games)
It's now sitting on a box near the computer, unplugged. When my little 1 yo boy wants to smash my keys, I kindly redirect him to it. He likes it alot :)
The programmable keys are cool though. They really didn't limp out on that one. They've made it really easy and you can make ALOT of easy to access macros. The only downside is if you want to make more complex macros, the editor is somewhat limiting in terms of productivity. If you wanted a macro to spew out a paragraph of text for example (say a complex signature on a forum) it's really a pain to do.
All in all, not worth it's cost IMHO.

funny, but with the exception of your point about the LCD, i disagree with almost everything you said about the G15! i love mine, have no complaints about the size/inclination of the keys (although i use a lot of different machines at work so it might be that i'm used to a variety of key shapes/sizes and therefore just haven't noticed
and while the macro features could indeed be more robust, i love being able to configure my weapons & modules so that I can just hit one key in a handily-bunched group to fire all weapons, another to just fire guns, another for missiles, another to reload, etc, etc.
i guess it really does show that "to each his own" is a valid saying :)

Yea I totally disagree also. Great KB, the macro keys are pretty handy but nothing like a unfair advantage.
The real killer function is the G15 Teamspeak applet, dont know how i managed before! -----

yea i agree, i love the g-15 keyboard. granted it is hard to see the keys unless you have the backlight on, but thats not a big deal, just leave the backlight on! the macros well not as robust as they could be, but the ability to create macros on the fly, in the game is worth the price of the keyboard. the lcd is cool, i use it for the clock or i would play eve way too much. also you can use fraps with it and keep track of your FPS. if you are computer savy you could write an applet for the keyboard. i know i've seen one around here. also TS and Vent i believe have applets that show who is talking.
in conclusion i think its a good keyboard and would buy it again.

G15s are perfectly legal in WoW; he must have been using it to afk macro or something.

Edited by: Lienzo on 21/09/2006 02:24:02 My review:
Pros: -Even the simple macros tend to be handy. -The CPU monitor is indicative if another program has failed. -The lightup keys are handy at all times of the day. -Sound mute button. -F1-F8 on one key. I'd say it's almost impossible to fly a destroyer without a G-15 by the current design.
Cons: -The paint, yes paint, is a matte color that is not resistant to the oils on your hands, and tends to be a dust magnet. At least it's a reminder to keep my nails trimmed. -The LED glow tends to be necessary because you cannot make out the keys in ordinary light. Even if you are a touch typist, I tend to find my homerow by the reflections glinting off a gloss keyboard. -It does have usb ports, but they are usb 1.1 ports and thus not so useful. -It said it supported sound cable management, which I'd assumed meant I could plug my headphones in by my bed. All it means is a set of plastic grooves on the bottom. -The little plastic feet and wrist wrest are flimsy. -Display doesn't turn off when closed. -Activating ctrl or alt and function keys is kindof hit and miss.
I kindof like it since it is big since I don't like small keyboards. I spent too much on it though, and should have picked it up off of newegg or somewhere similar for $60. For all the macro use I get out of it, I would have been better off buying a simple usb-macro add-on. There are several gaming-oriented devices priced under $30.
I generally don't uses the rest of the features, and I haven't seen fit to make a new macro in at least a month.
Summary: Wait for the G16 or whatever.

Ok... so if the G15 is allowed, am I then allowed to use EZ-macro to get the same functions on my standard keyboard? If not, that's kinda unfair... ---

Anyone who thinks G15 macros have the same power as a real botting program has either: A- never owned a G15, B- Never used a real botting program, or C- never had a brain

I know for a fact that G15s are allowed having already posted on this subject and having asked a friendly GM on the subject.

I like it but i do not like the fact that my left alt key has lost the text, it's all a blur now guess playing so much has taken it's toll on it :) never use macros but i play a lot in the dark so the backlight is nice.

Hi Gang,
Thought I'd jump in here also, I'm not smart enough to figure out the macro part of it. In fact the only thing I was able to do was put the F1-12 buttons on the left hand side, (which is more convient for me) but Eve itself even allows you to remap your keyboard somewhat if your so inclined.
Anyway I said all that to say this: I love this keyboard Yes it's true, I'm easily amused by cool gadgets, and this is currently one of my favorites. If picking one up isn't a financial burden for you, go get one today.
