In your opinon - Which cruiser or battlecruiser can live longest to heavy fire and in which setup ?
I am not talking survival, but longlivity and I mixed cruiser with BC because I think that one has speed where the other has hitpoints that both help to survive.
When we're talking heavy fire, we are talking the kind of thing you eat out after jumping into a medium size gatecamp ;)
I can't decide whether Brutix or Ferox would maybe be the winners here perhaps..
Thanks for any info you want to share ;) Ram

Win, but let's not forget the Ferox's uber passive tank. That thing not only lasts a long time, it lasts permanently if it's heal rate is greater than the incoming DPS.
The thing can tank a fair number of L4s.

We are talking concentrated fire from 2-3 BS and a few cruisers at the least. Bear in mind - with a Blob on you, you d have to accept you cannot survive but try to last as long as possible and maybe even make it back to the gate to jump out.

Probably be a close contest between the prophecy or ferox.
Someone ran numbers and showed that the 5% resist bonus > 7.5% repair/boost bonus unless it's a narrow window of DPS being recieved, and it was a low window.
I'm going to follow my bias and say prophecy, but I honestly don't know for certain. ---------- My sig is boring. |

That said, plated proph prolly has the best "time till die" tank. Brutix is pretty much on par, but if you damage exceeds your repper time, you will be screwed.
Haven't ever tried an xtended ferox though. May be pretty good as well.

due to slow ROF of NPC torps a Ferox can go unlimited on passive, i found my breaking point in a lvl 4 was when i had about 5 BS and 4 cruisers/BC beating on me but i still held up for 3minutes about

.
A friend has one with T1 extenders and that setup, good BSs can break the passive tank, but a lot of ships can't.
Something like 12k shields and 330 sec recharge with T1 fittings.

I have a ferox setup that will take some time to get throu aswell, only setup to survive empire gateganks (a bit overkill i know)
5 x rocket launchers loaded with defenders
3 x large shield extender (t2 if you want) 1 em hardener 1 invuln field
3 x 800mm plates 1 shield power relay
10 - 12k shields with decent recharge depending on skills
8 - 9k armor to chew throu if the going gets tough
Not given this any deeper thought, but it sure as hell isnt going to be enough with a T1 insured raven to pop me at a gate in high sec when i carry faction loot
This boat moves like an elephant wiht rheumatism, so beware...

Edited by: DubanFP on 22/09/2006 22:37:25 My vote goes to Passive Ferox. That thing has an ungodly ability with the Large shield extender IIs, and shield power relays. Can easily fit 16,5000 shields with a peak regen rate of 125 shields per second "for reference a Large shield booster with boost amp repairs 78 per second at the cost of cap". Oh and that doesn't even include the bonus to resists the ferox gets.

U don`t use that setup. Shield Power Relays II are not in-game and if they were u could probably sell them to Pottsey for 1.5 bill each.
Second 2x Invulnerability Field I/II will give u the best general tanking along with 3x Large Shield Extender II, but with that i like 2x Medium Nos in highs and 1-2 PDUs in low to make sure it runs a bit.

I know they are not in-game. If they were i would be training Caldari Cruiser to 5 now and get myself a Vulture

Thanks all for providing so many hints.

I go:
5 x Arbelest Heavy Lanchers 2 x Tractor Beams
3 x Named Large Shield Extenders 2 x Invulnerability Field
3 x Shield Power Relay 1 x BCU
The above = win on all lvl 3 missions with fast loot collection with the tractors. I often collect loot while nuking cruisers =) I've been in armor only a couple of time as I can recall (1.4m sp) and I've never died in my original 24m ISK Ferox
Enjoy =)

Best sustainable BC tank. With passive tanking, cap is irrelivant. I see a few comments of "when I died I saw all that cap left and if only I had a booster, I could have converted it to shields. What they fail to realize is that they would have been dead long before they got to that point if they had been actively shield tanking most of the time. It is also incredible resistant to burst damage due to it's ungodly hp's.

ferox
highs: 5 heavy launchers 2 med NOS
mids: 1 med shield booser 2 3 hardeners 1 cap recharger 2
lows: 4 PDS2 or 3 PDS2 1 damage control
enough cap recharge to keep hardeners and med booster going forever without the nos
lvl 5 in energy management and energy systems operation a must, crystal implant set if enough isk in wallet
