So, what do you propose?

Sounds like you're after an assault frigate, they're small, fast, hard hitting and have good armour.
My personal favourite is the Ishkur, well worth traing AF's to level 5 for 4 medium drones in the drone bay, plus blasters in high and a Gistii A-type AB.
Although if you're also wanting energy weapons like the defiant then Amarr AF's may be better for you.

How about you stop being a star trek nerd and begin to check what EvE really has to offer.
The ship class that comes closest to your description is the Force Recon. These ships are fast, can cloak, and have moderate weapons, as well as some nice EW boni.
They are cloaking ew cruisers essentially. It is good that you are not paranoid, yet, they might still be after you.

The Defiant is fast and agile, and avoids most damage.
I think the Vagabond comes closest, still the Defiant would pwn a 100 Vagabond fleet though.
Interceptors are close too, I think.

AF's or Interceptors would fit the Defiant in my opinion. Gotta remember that Frigate's in EVE are just that...Frigates...meaning they aren't small ships when on the scale of things. I remember seeing a picture of the rifter along side a 747 (Rifter being bigger).
I'd got with a blaster taranis because blasters look more like the defiant's weapons than lasers/beams do in EVE.
On a side note if you want to be a Romulan just use an Exequror =P ---
Lisento Slaven wants to be a Space Whaler in EVE.

The Defiant-class is a frigate. Eve has no comparison to the Defiant. Defiant's capabilities are far superior to Eve frigs. For a Defiant counterpart, it would have an Interceptor's speed, an AF's tank, and a Covert Ops cloaking device, the ability to mount 6 turrets and 2 launchers (maybe 4, can't remember, it's been a while since I nerded out on Star Trek). Something like that would be vastly overpowered.
In other words, find something in Eve that you like. I love the Defiant and I also love the frigates in Eve (I have a particular affinity for the Malediction). Coincidence? Probably not. Frigates give you plenty of options because they don't take as much time to train up as the larger vessels do. If you like something sturdier without sacrificing too much agility, go for your cruiser classes.
Oh and just for comparison, check this out. EVE vs. Scifi Nerddom

Punisher or Vengeance with pulse lasers comes closest, I think. You can fit a cloak to any ship, but the penalties are pretty severe on non-specialized ships.

Google "uss defiant specs", and this is what it came up with (selecting relevant data):
Length: 120 m (cruiser sig radius, if you ask me) Mass:115,845 metric tonnes (ouch, that's BS-weigth in EVE, if I'm not mistaking)
"Shield Strength: 7.2 (Integrity complemented by hull armouring)" and "Offensive Power(129.6)"
Whatever that woud mean in EVE terms, no idea. Probably a lot more offensive/damage potential rather than defensive potential... and more likely to have an armor tank than a shield tank.
Weapons: 2 Type XI Phaser Cannons, 4 Type X Phaser Arrays, 3 Quantum Torpedo Launchers (Stock 325) That would translate to, say, 2 beam lasers and 4 blasters more or less? And for the launchers, heavy missiles would be a good approximation. So 9 hislots (lol), 6 turrets and 3 launchers. Well, make that 7 hislots, 5 turrets (blasters) and 3 launchers (heavies).
Looking at mass and all that, I'd have to say the DEIMOS comes to mind as the ship CLOSEST to the Defiant in the EVE world. __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

The rifter or it's AF equivalents spring to mind when I think of the Defiant, flying one of those should tie you over until star trek online comes out.

- Eve-Class: Destroyer - Cloaking device - muchos oversized guns - muchos oversized PG to fit oversized engines (remember Defiant is over-motorisized) - heavy shield tank + high resist amor (remember this amor that made defiant able to take down shields while under fire?) - agility of a uhm... AF
This ship would be "the" solopwnmobile and in fact the Defiant WAS the solopwnmobile of the Federation. Remember the battles it fought and what it took to take it down. (some equivalient to nos+ecm, of the irony)

It is a megathron with 2 neutrons, 4 electrons, and 2 smlII with javelin torps. Gist-x type mwd, officer shieldtank. and PDUII, damage mods, and maybe some nanofibers

Edited by: Djerin on 25/09/2006 20:44:37 Oh well, you're one of those guys who like them frogs. But yet you would have to shave your head and get some serious leadership skills. Or was it Cpt. Sisko piloting this ship?
But seriously, a ship like that would be insanely overpowered. EVE is not a Hollywood Sci-Fi series where the brave captian has to survive the unwinable battles.

the defiant has 2 pulse phasers and 2 torpedo launchers. Doing that in eve just wont work...the firing rate on the pulse phasers is too fast for anything in eve while the damage is low, and then the torpedo launchers...well nothing comes close to that kind of damage.

Sounds most like a Vigilant to me:
Fast + agile 5x Hi (5 guns + 1 Missile) -- Blasters Enough mids to fit a passable officer shield tank if you care to commit crimes against nature.

Err fitting a shieldtank to a Vigilant would be like the first crime you're committing, i think.

I see. Although i feel dirty even considering this i'd suggest to use an assault-launcher instead of the heavy. With the blasters and the mwd there is no use of the heavies range.
But tbh i doubt you'll do a lot of kills with a fitting like that.

Mieh, w/ good skills you'll hit 500 DPS with better range, speed, agility, and tanking than a Deimos...no tackling though, and certainly not cost effective.
*Shrug* It's not a real fitting, obviously. It's just as close to the Defiant as I could concieve.

Um... vagabond with a cloak I guess. Most of the ships that are "supposed" to have cloaking capabilities (like recons), arent exactly fast, though they could possess some or all of your other criteria.

Ok... How about a manticore?
-small -CHECK -fast -CHECK (compared to cruisers and BS atleast -hitting hard -CHECK (not so often tho) -cloaking -CHECK (with a good cloak it hits 500m/s when cloaked) -armor -CHE... well, it has some, but it isn't good
Hell... (can i say that??) it even looks like the U.S.S Defiant Yes, This is a ForumPosting Alt!
