What do the Gallente have? I know of the thorax, which is a great ship if you have the right skills, but what are its medium slot numbers? Can a Bounty Hunter subscribe to the Thorax and be able to perform his job like one could in a BlackBird?

It depends on what you want to hunt...
To hunt frigates, max out your firepower and instakill them.
To hunt cruisers, you need a way to prevent them from escaping and/or returning fire, and I'm sorry, but the 3 med slots on the celestis won't cut it.

Well, look at the Blackbirds powergrid. It can never, ever power more than 2 decent Medium guns and still have good stuff in its many medium slots. It's a good support cruiser but I wouldn't pick it for bounty hunting as practically anyone would be able to out-gun you. |

I agree. Look at the Rupture. Best Cruiser the Minimatars can muster with what 2 Midslots? LOL LOL LOL.
No Afterburners, No ECM, No shield enhancements, no nice nifty slot two gizmos.
I'd rather see it 5 High's (3 missle/3 yes 3 Turrets) and 3-4 Mediums at least with even one less low.
No Mediums, is no fun imo.
Especially for the 14 million isk range.

Moas are great combat cruisers, but they don't look so hot.

feroci0us, 2 ECM (just for example Moa has 2 slots more than Thorax) and you won't be able to lock anything.

MOA owns all cruisers as it is now. Not that I mind since im Caldari and prefer to fly Caldari ships :-) The Thorax would be better if it had the power grid to support more high powered guns, but as it is now the MOA wins. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Whats this about Caldari Blackbird not having enough of a powergrid? I have one with two heavy lasers, one heavy launcher and one 650mm artillary all ready to go. In mid slots I have space for micro warp drive, shield expander, power grid recharger, shield boosters, warp jammer and pasive targetter.
All you need is enginerring lvl 4, low slot power grid expanders (I can never remember their exact names but not the basic ones) and ensure that all your mid slots items are loot dropped improved versions taht use a fraction of the powergrid of the market versions.
Voila, a blackbird that can blast it out and use all the mid slot items it wants. I love that damn ship :) -----

Yep, I have my MOA teched out like that to. All you need are Reactor Control units for your low slots.

I have ~700 powergrid in my BB and it's not enough, considering each 250mm Rail uses 300 power. So I have two 250's and use the rest for other modules.
Unless i'm mistaken, the high-end assault cruisers has over twice the stock powergrid of a Blackbird, aswell as many more low-slots to improve it.
It's an amazing support cruiser, but I wouldn't engage a Maller/Moa/Thorax/Rupture solo in it.

Unless maybe if your opponent is at a belt (or far from any object allowing him to escape, such as a gate or a station), you have a warp disruptor, a webifier and enough ECM power to render his firepower useless, and he doesn't have MWD at all. Then you can just beat the hell out of him, and take your time to do it.
That takes a lot of "ifs" :p

6 med slots, fit one of each type of Ecm - that gives you -12 to all ecm types .. now the only cruiser with a sensor strength of 12 is the blackbird, all the others have between 9 and 11 .. so they have to use an active ECCM or multiple passives to not be target jammed completely .. add a warp scrambler in slot #5 and your choice of AB/SB/ECCM or whatever in slot 6 and your target cannot warp away and cannot shoot .. bingo :D . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

You do not fit it with 250mm rails. Electonic Warfare ships do not have the CAPAC or PWR to spare when running the jamming equipment and warp scramblers. Use cruiser missiles instead. Or if you feel really 1337 put a webifier in a med slot to slow your target down and pound him with torps from close range.

Yes, missiles would be a better choice. As for jamming, I was under the impression that ECM modules used a lot of cap, as warp distruptors do. So - without missiles - I would again be unable to solo any all-out combat ship since i'd run out of cap before I could kill it... I can fire my 250 mm's while warp distrupting no problem, but add in a ECM/Shieldbooster/Multispectral/MWD etc. and it just doesn't recharge fast enough. |

How's the Vexor as an ECM/Scrambler support ship? The drone bay should help with heavy combat drones..

Most Gallente ships are sufering from the fact that we have not seen any heavy combat drones in game. Once they are in a thorax will be much more dangerous. ------------------ NoctoZ Black Reign Curse Alliance |

If the blackbird pilot if using the blackbird as it is designed, you shoulden't have more than 1 short range self defense gun installed in your load out. You shouldent even fire a shot during combat. Your job is lockdown, lockdown sensors, lockdown weapons, and propulsion. 2 blackbirds can completely immobilize 2 high end cruisers, or seriously hinder the effectiveness of 4 high end cruisers.

I am a proud owner of a Blackbird. In fact, I don't have the money for a moa, but the BB is awesome. I don't intend to engage PC pirates, I don't like to play that way.
Regarding to firepower, of course, you cannot compare it with a moa or a high end cruiser, but you can pack it with a puch.
I have lots of loadouts, from mining op to long range targeting.
Weapon loadout 1 (general rate killing) heavy beam laser heavy modulated focused beam heavy modulated focused beam h50
Weapons loadout 2 (range) heavy beam laser 250mm carbide m12 h50
Weapons loadout 3 (mining) heavy beam laser XeCl mining drill laser XeCl mining drill laser h50
There are other setups with proj weapons.
But I won't tell you what I pack in the medslots... It's enough to say that I have 9 different setups, from a 160 sec recharge 1061 cap, to a 1200 shield with tacs, not to mention ecm setups. Unfortunately, I have to lvl up energy management skills to get an even better cap recharge rate, so I can use multispectrals without draining cap so fast.
