Edited by: Mimio on 27/09/2006 16:55:21 If CCP programmers so lazy and/or ineducated to solve bookmark problems in normal way I propose good and to-satisfy-almost-everybody solution.
1. Bookmarks will work as before. No changes at all. Allowed to copy anytime. 2. Add for every Celestial Object possibility to "register this object for null distance warp to". 2a. Registering requires that you to be near the celestial object for some time, for example 30 sec and 2km. 2b. Registered celestial objects is colored in overview and marked with, for example, [R]. To be visible. 2c. Registering to be done personally(no copy allowed) 3. You can warp to Registered Celestial Object on 0 km anytime. 4. Autopilot cannot use Registered Celestial Object to warp on 0km .
So what we have? 1. No zillions of bookmarks. Everybody knows for what we have these bookmarks. gate-Gate, gate-station. If I could register gate and station than I do need bookmarks on station and gate. 2. Old style bookmarks works as before. Tradionalists will be satisfied. 3. Travel afk will be the same as before. Long and boring. 4. Manual travel will be the same as before. Short, but still dangerous. 5. No idiotic everybody-must-know-skill. 6. Non-existant trafic overhead. One additional bit about object to server and from server. 7. Reasonably simple implementation, no need to wait for Kali. 8. Smooth exchange of old bookmarks for registering. Registered object is more comfortable in use. 9. Gap between old players and new is slightly decreased in this area. 10. Registering objects is STILL dangerous, but REWARDABLE. 11. You still have to WORK(register objects) before get REWARD(faster travel). 12. CP could ban or limit bookmark copying. Who cares?null

Reading is too complicated for you? Full solution is described in 7 lines. The description is clear and full.

Please reread your own proposal.
BM's will still exist as they do now (hence, no improvement)
Another option to create insta's is allowed, instead of moving 15km past a gate, you can now sit still near a gate for the same effect, but these insta's cannot be copied.
If the effort is about the same, I would rather make insta's I can copy and redistribute as needed. If the effort is seriously less than making insta's now, then it becomes almost equal to an automatic warp to 0km, just with a small button-push ritual with it.
In other words, it adds complications and extra code while solving essentially nothing. That's not a good solution, and certainly not a satisfy-almost-everbody solution. Don't want it, don't need it.

Realistic?
We play a GAME thats set in the future, in a distant part of the galaxy, we all fly spacships, the flight physics are from an arcade game (and I'm glad about that as I remember playing Elite 2 and it was impossible) and the French (decendants) are a power (only joking I love everyone).
Realistic isn't a word that could be associated with EVE ___________________________________________________ Serenity Prime Is Recruiting |

I assume a change like this would also involve the removal of all BMs within 100km of gates/stations.

I don't think the OP implied that these would exist as bookmarks. I imagine it'd just be an option in the right click menu for warping to the registered gates and stations. |

The more I think about the suggestion, the more I like it. Provided it includes also some form of insta BM purging (like all who have more than X bms on day Y, will lose all BMs closer than NN to a stargate/station).
The main difference to the current method is that you couldn't buy the BMs...which is probably good as well.
Also bonus points for coming up with a good system where a FC might go "no dont bring battleships, we want to move fast".

Forget all that.
Implement warp to 0 for everyone, every time, NOW.
NO SKILLS, NO MODULES, NO BULL.
It's the right thing to do.
We need a YEAR without ANY 'new content'. Nothing but BUG FIXES.
New content that does not work is WORTHLESS. |

This is exactly why some people stay away from these forums. Somebody may most something that may or may not make sense, may or may not be thought out, and may or may not work, but it hardly matters what they do on any topic regarding instas, balancing, or lag, it just get's flamed to hell and back.

This seems like a really good idea to me.
It doesn't force people to get rid of bookmarks - it just allows them to do something else instead.
Actually I think it's a great idea.
And as for the people who flamed it - I really can't explain how worthless their comments were without swearing. And I guess I shouldn't swear on these forums. But, my word, how dumb are those flamers? How dumb?
Amazing.
GOOD idea, though.

It's actually quite a nice idea, apart from the "old BM's won't be touched" thing, ofcourse they need to go, any BM within 115KM from the gate should be removed and THEN use that system. In fact, just remove all BM's in the same grid as gates and stations, much easier for CCP to implement, after that you can only make new BM's outside 115KM from the gate.
On a different note; kinda funny that all of a sudden all kinds of worms come out of the woodwork who normally don't post a thing and all of a sudden become kinda defensively offensive...

QFT. Any distance from the gate but close enough for activation will make gate camps a sure thing. The thing is CCP talks about "for people traveling" vs "people not traveling". when was the last time you stayed in the same system for a week? Every time I get on I travel somewhere.
