What cruisers is able to hit targets at the greatest range using a form of turrets?
I recently made an omen with focused beams for small gang-support, and it hits at about 25 kms with my current skills.
I was wondering what cruisers would be hitting above that while still being viable in PvP? Note that drones and missiles are not in my consideration, as i'm talking about instant damage without delay.
Thanks in advance.

probebly the moa, AT LEAST 100km, though i don't use the moa much. And the 100km really doesn't mean much.

Rupture (artillery) and Moa (railguns) have sniping ability. To get the most out of them, you need to fit T2 weaponry. A T2 Moa can hit out to the neighborhood of 110km.

Edited by: Chupacabro on 27/09/2006 23:44:41 I can hit about 65km out with 5 200 with spike in a Thorax. I could prolly hit further if I loaded 250's but I cant get 5 on w/o sacrificing my tank.

What if i was to fit T1 guns on a ship, what would the max range be then? and would it gimp the damage and/or tank so badly it wouldn't be worth it?

Edited by: Siakel on 27/09/2006 23:48:39 Hm... for T1 Cruisers, the Moa will get the highest range instant-damage, followed closely by the Arbitrator (Sentry Drones can hit up to 100km fairly easily, and have no travel time.) The Vexor can get the same drone range as the Arbi, but I think it'd have a hard time locking out that far without the extra midslot for a sensor booster.
I know you said no drones or missiles, but you seemed to say that mostly because of the travel time involved, so I offered up the Sentry Drone option as they have no travel time.
Edit: With a purely T1 fitting, an Arbitrator may outrange a Moa.

More like 160~~~
My t1 moa with best named gun hits out to 112.

moa can easily get to 100km with tech I guns, although tech II tracking comps help a lot. otherwise you have to cram so many sensor enhancers in lows tht you can't fit a full rack of mag satbs.

Yep.
With tech II guns, you get tech II ammo. Loading spike in boosts range significantly. 250 II's with Tracking Computer II's and Spike M should get you far past standard 250 I's w/ Iron M, and allow you to hit considerably harder as well. ____________________________ Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content - Cortes |

dont' forget the Arbitrator with Drone Link Augmentators and Sentries and Good drone skills. Very good range, not sure exactly what it is though. Don't forget drone dmg from sentries is just as "instant" as turrets are. ----------------------- sig below

T2 Sniper Moa:
4x 250mm Railgun II 1x Assault Missile Launcher I 1x Standard Missile Launcher I
2x Sensor Booster II 2x Tracking Computer II
2x Tracking Enhancer II 2x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
With Spike M I get 159km optimal, plus an addition 14km of falloff, must of which I can't use because I only have a hair over 160km of targetting range available. I could trade away a Tracking Computer II for a third Sensor Booster II and a Magnetic Field Stabilizer II for a third Tracking Enhancer II in order to take advantage of that falloff range, but it really wouldn't be worth it.
So there's your answer, really. You can shoot 160 kilometers with a Moa. You will have invested more money into your modules than your ship is worth, and this ship will have no tank at all...but you will be laying down reasonable damage at 160 klicks with a T1 cruiser. --------------------- Originally by: Herko Kerghans Nik = win. Edited by: FireFoxx80 on 28/09/2006 09:48:43 For a little bit more, the Ferox will do the same job (Bonus to hybrid range), can mount one more railgun, and has a better tank.
Ferox makes a great fleet ship, can sit at battleship ranges sniping other cruisers/frigates.
Edit, remember that a target painter will also do the nasty at those ranges.

Apart from the fact that the Ferox is a battlecruiser not a cruiser (see thread title) a sniper Ferox has no real tank either - at least nothing that will make a difference if you get caught. As for 'a little bit more'...unless the hull price of Moas has shot up recently you can get 2-3 Moa hulls for the price of a Ferox ;) Also the Moa (although it's not exactly a slick mover) is much more likely to make warping speed than a ferox if things go bad.
It does make a good fleet ship though, where your tank is effectively all the battleships in your fleet ;)

With appropriate gunnery skills all [only] at lvl 3 and non-named T1 kit you can get a Moa out to about 100km (optimal + falloff) so with named kit and higher skills you can certainly exceed 100km without having to go T2
No idea what the damage is like though....

Moa and Rupture Id say. T2 fitted rupture with tremor should have an optimal of around 70k. _____________________________

Harpy != Cruiser. Also Harpy price FTL compared to Moa.
