I heard this term several times talking to my friends, and its about making the rats spawn faster, but while searching the forums, its bannable to do this(2004)?
Can someone give me a clear picture please.

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 28/09/2006 10:54:53 Chaining to make spawns go faster does not work any more AFAIK.
Now it just refers to only killing the 'good parts' of good spawns so the same ones come back rather than being replaced with bad ones. ----------

They no longer spawn faster.
Chaining as we know it today involves killing all the NPC's at a bel but leaving one survivor. the ones you killed go back to their NPC base and grab new ships to come back and help their buddy. Scotty obviously likes NPC's even less than he likes us as this takes them about 15 minutes.
Basically we do this only to high value spawns, such as triple battleships and the like. Although it should work with any NPC spawn I have never tried it anywhere but 0.0.

thanks guys,
So that means to chain spawn, I just kill off the good stuff and move on to the next belt right?

Correct and by the time you get back to the first belt the good parts have hopefully respawned.

Because if you kill off all of the rats in a spawn, then it becomes random as to what - if anything - will spawn there again. Leaving one makes it so the same spawn will come back, to join their remaining buddy as someone put it. :)

So, if a Dread Gurista spawns, and I kill him and all but one of his lackies, another Dread will show up around 15 minutes later?
I was trying to test it out... I killed all but 1 and was just tanking him in my Ferox when 10 minutes later or so some jackass in a Kestrel came in and blew the rat up.

no.. :) faction and officer spawns dont respawn, but their escorting ships will, which are usually good. -----------------------------------------------

I do quite a bit of ratting in 0.0 and Ive noticed something recently (last month) - wondered if anybody else has?
The chaining above still works but the rats tend to move belts - I know they are the same rats cos the last remaining has no armour etc. Also if you warp away when you come back a minute later quite often the spawn has gone.
