will be doing mostly missions, but PvP on the side, a good setup I assume would work for both, but PvP is probably better. If someone could post it out for me? And please try not to use abreviations, I am somewhat new, just moving into the thorax.

ok, the thorax is an advanced pvp ship, you will need lots of skills at high levels to fly it well, however i guess i can try to help:
All around pvp setup, this has good damige and good surviveability: PVP thrax:
5 electron blasters (named or tech II)
10mn Micro warp drive stasis webifier 7.5km waro scrambler
1 medium armor repair 3 armor hardeners 1 800mm plate
all this should fit comfortably with decent skills, start upgrading the modules to tech II once you have sufficient skills.

Edited by: Cerpen Taxt on 02/10/2006 18:50:38 Isn't it incredibly expensive to armor tank? with repair costs being like more then the money you make (doing lvl 2 missions) which is what a lot of people use the thorax for
Edit- lvl 2 missions when not PvPing of course. hehe. but either way my question stands

What expenses do you have in mind? Apart from buying the modules, repping (either shield, armor and structure) doesn't cost ISK. You can repair armor and structure when docked, but you can repair that yourself with the appropriate modules. ------ No ISK, no fun |

yes that setup would work fine, just make sure that you have the correct hardeners for the missions, but for PvP the hardeners should be 2 Energized adaptive Nano, and an energized reactive nano. Missions would be 2x strong damage type, 1x weak damage type.

I have no idea what that means. haha. I wish I weren't such a noob, been playing long enough, I just want to figure this out.

How long have you had that account?
Ok, I donÆt care one way or another. But for your own sanity do the tutorials and fly a bunch of level 1 missions before you start getting more expensive stuff vaporized. If you donÆt know that armor repairers (and hull repairers) only burn cap then you arenÆt ready for cruisersà If you donÆt know what ôcapö is you really arenÆt ready for cruisers.
Eve has a fairly steep learning curve and itÆs a very harsh game. In most MMO games you just go back to your spawn point when you die and maybe have a small repair bill or take an XP hit. In Eve you lose everything except your character, and you will take a big skillpoint hit if you donÆt have an updated clone.
First, take a few hours and read all the tutorials. Then go back and reread them. Study the different weapon types and know what they do and donÆt do. Study the gunnery/missile guides again for good measure.
Make sure your clone is updated, and head out in a frigate. Either run level 1 missions or hunt belt rats for a bit.
One quick tip. Blasters are strictly short ranged weapons. They do great damage but are worthless at medium/long range. Railguns are great long ranged weapons and do good at medium ranges. But they canÆt track well enough to hit targets reliably at close ranges. (Read the gunnery/tracking guide)
The Thorax is a good cruiser and itÆs a very common ship. people usually set it up as a close ranged ship for PvP (blasters) however you might find it works better to set up for medium/long range (railguns) for missions. Experiment around some in frigates. Use plain old tech 1 (cheap) modules at first. They are nearly as good as the top end stuff and a lot cheaper. High end named modules might have a 20%-25% advantage over non-named tech 1 stuff. But they will cost 10x-20x times as much. (Open the market window and browse around looking at whatÆs for sale.)

Here's the set up I used as a noob running lvl 2 missions:
Highs: 3 Med Neutron Blasters (or Ions if fitting's tight) 2 Small Neutron Blasters (ditto)
Meds: 10MN Afterburner (MWD is skill intensive for a noob and useless in most missions because of deadspace) Stasis Webifier (to slow down fast frigs so you can blast them, essential for 25k bounty frig rats) Medium Shield Booster OR Capacitor Recharger I
Lows: Medium Armor Repairer Damage Control I (essential for cheap resists and extra hull resists) Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I (cheap resists across the board) 2 Energized Platings (switch to the plates that give resists against the damage type the mission rats will deal)
Of course, since it's a Gallente ship: 5 Hammerhead Is. You probably won't be able to use all of them at the same time, but you have the drone bay space anyway...

Nice and cheap setup that i used to run lvl2s back in the day:
4x 150mm Railgun I's 1x Medium Nosferatu I
1x 10mn Afterburner I 1x Stasis Webifier I 1x Cap Recharger I
1x Medium Armor Repairer II (Get tech 2 as soon as possible, its very worth it) 1x Armor Kinetic Hardener I 1x Armor Thermal Hardener I 1x Capacitor Power Relay I 1x 1600mm Crystalline Carbonide Plates / Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
5x Hammerhead I's
Switch this all out for Meta/Tech 2 modules if you can afford/have skills to use them. You can also experiment with swapping hardeners and cap power relay for 3 Energized Membranes, wich i did before i was able to use Active hardeners.
And dont do the mistake of fitting medium guns for level 2 missions. Medium hybrid turrets simply cant track all those frigates you will be encountering, leaving you relying on your drones and tank.
Now PvP is all different. I wont give you an exact setup, but try something with 4 medium blasters, 1 medium nosferatus, 10mn microwarpdrives, stasis webifiers, warp distruptors and a tank of 1 medium repairer and a selection of passive/active hardeners and plates. ---
