The sole reason for the existence of BoB is combat, not for anyone's ego (especially Molle, who doesn't have one), or for anything else except combat.
If it makes it easier, just think of BoB in the same terms as the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan. It will not be far from the truth.
Ultimately, the only reason why ASCN's Titan would matter to us is because it matters to them.
Please spare us. Irrilian's post was spot on. This is all about BOB's ego being bruised and everyone knows it. It wasn't till the titan showed up that BOB suddenly decided it was time for war. Admit it you guys have ***** envy and your members are bored.

No offence, but the Great Southern War has got an awful lot of node/dev attention. So much in fact, that it seems completely untenable to take a fleet of more than 25 anywhere else in the south.
We've tried a few times now, and simply had to turn bck due to unbearable lag.

Come on now be honest. Everyone knows you guys are the biggest exploiters in the game. And if ASCN is now using lag tactics you only have yourself to blame. Since the devs refused to do anything about your lag exploits Cyvok told all of ascn if the devs aren't going to do anything about it then ascn should use the same tactics against you.

but aside from all favourism and/or tinfoilhats, the main point is ccp will hopefully be able to fix the current state of alliance warfare. how they do it is subsidiary.

Well, apparently and according to CYVOK we've wanted PS since DICE joined us.
So, which is it? Do we want PS? Or is our ego bruised? Or do we just want to be the first to kill a Titan?

Envy? Really... come on. I don't know one person in BoB who is worried about ACSN being the first to announce they have a Titan. In fact, most BoB understand the logistics involved in creating one and congratulated them on their accomplishment. I don't recall BoB ever being pre-occupied with being "OMG 1ST!!" about getting anything?
The only part of your post that IS accurate, is that our members were bored and we attacked ACSN. Now... tell me why that is a bad thing? Most people play to have fun no? The one thing BoB's ceo's excel at most, is providing opportunity for fun.

I'm glad to hear attention is being given to the problems with server performance that are being caused by the scale of the conflict in the south.
If the engineers at CCP can fix the lag and crashes for those groups it will have effects for all of us. Just this weekend as my boys were killing a hostile dread the node crashed and the lucky little dread lived. Now, if the smart, dedicated fellows at CCP who are facing the some of the most bleeding edge technical networking problems in the world can iron out a solution by watching the massive conflicts in the South, then I am in full support.
With logs being generated and engineers looking at the problems improvements will follow. This will translate to more groups having the sort of epic conflict that only EVE can offer - including the battles for Outposts that the thread originally started discussing. Right now, for most entities, the tens of billions of isk in resources that are required for a capital ship conflict is too large to gamble on the turkey shoot of lag and server stability.

It just shows what type of players you have in your alliance. They only care about destroying what others build. ASCN is about making their own empire in lawless space and making something for themselves in the sandbox we all call Eve. What it comes down to is two completely different play styles. One only finds fun in destruction and flashy explosions while another finds fun in building and accomplishing something bigger than themselves. I just prefer the latter.

So, you're saying that BoB doesn't participate in the latter?
Thank you for showing us how ignorant you are.
People on these forums complain we own all the t2 bpos (that requires building, yes?) yet you complain we only are here to destroy.
Only ASCN have built more outposts than we have. Yet all we like to do is destroy.
BoB take regions by force, so does ASCN. Yet it's US that are the destroyers?
We relish our role in this game, I'd suggest you get your perspective right before commenting on what that role is though.

Yes, it does indeed say something about the type of player we have in our alliance, and I for one am very proud about what it says. BoB is about making their own empire in lawless space and taking control of all it possibly can. It is about having fun pitting ourselves against a behemoth such as ACSN, knowing the challenge that brings not just via pvp, but logistically as well. It's about a band of brothers that find fun in knowing they can count on their brothers to help them accomplish something bigger then they could alone. It's about an Alliance playing within the framework designated by the creators of this game. Different playstyles... hmm probably not as different as you think, when it comes down to it really eh? Don't generate hostility based on a group of players playing the game in a different way then you. We don't tell folks in empire they shouldn't be able to play your way...

Back to the topic ...
I read this great book called Fire & Stone that talked about the strategy and tactics behind fortress warfare in the 17th-19th century. There is a lot of similarity to where POS/Outpost warfare is headed. The gist is that it was a long, methodical, and bloody process that required a lot of careful planning, both to properly construct the defenses and to conquer them. One slipup in execution, however, could greatly accelerate a conclusion one way or the other.
Ultimately, conquering these fortresses or cities was a means to an end of some kind. For the defenders, that meant presenting a defense that created a sufficiently high cost for that means to deter it, or actively defending long enough to raise the risk of missing the opportunity to reach that goal (reinforcements arriving, taking too long to conquer the city, etc).
For the attackers, it was to execute methodically what became a pretty reliable process for breaking a city's defenses (with the right force composition) and demonstrating as quickly as possible the inevitability of a city's fall to drive the city leadership to the bargaining table.
In the end, a siege was a very costly endeavor with a long time frame, which meant that it was only pursued when there was a larger context or goal that supported the conquest (control of a key bottleneck, access to a resource, defending a supply line as a front advanced, etc.). This is where I see outpost and system conquering headed if not already there - the defenses amassed are a sufficient deterrent, barring defensive leadership perceived to be incompetent, to deter outpost conquering in isolation. But over time, certain outposts at certain times will find their value perceived to be high enough to justify a siege. All-out outpost conquering, therefore, will be notable but somewhat limited in galactic wars, and, just as has always been the case, wars will be a lot more about infantry, cavalry and artillery bashing each others' brains out.
Which, in the end, is a heck of a lot more fun really.

Thanks for the say so. I thought as much, but didn't know until yourself as a Northern resident just let me know.

Same as for Deadduck here.
Both of these guys are definatley big political enemies of mine, and i know this is kind of off the op's original idea for the thread, but everyone from a southern resident such as myself to a Northern resident such as D2 & Razor mention there is lag in the majority of the all 'great wars before kali' says something should be looked at. Well, it is .....
More pointedly, Sharkbait has been candid in his posts that it is being taken seriously and more over it is NOT just this present shoot-o-rama in the South that is getting 'special' attention (as my above 2 quotes point out quite clearly). Where ever there is mass reported lag/server stress, these guys are there to take recordings to help out and do their jobs as well they can i'm sure.
As for people's reactions to a dev posting and flaming him somewhat, go and try another MMO at some point and see how often Dev's reply. Little to absolutley never in my experience. I think i've played about 5 MMO's in total, and never seen such high amount of dev replies to player questions in any of them.

I've seen devs in local with fights not involving BoB (9CG, anyone? :) ). Lets keep realistic and appreciate whats going on here - I sincerely hope that the game keeps improving, and a thanks for all the mega work that is being done behind the scenes by CCP, the beta testers, and not least the pilots with the balls to bring it on this scale.
However, as player riches, ability and count increases, this kind of engagement will become more commnonplace. The difference is in scale and potential - a single-system/small region skirmish (like what is happening in XZH and cloud ring) clearly has a lower potential to a multi-regional battle, as could erupt in the southern regions.
Hope it does tho
