The EVE Forum Moderator Team is now accepting applications for Moderators. The EVE Forum Moderator Team is known as Communications Relay Commission and is a part of the EVE Volunteer Program known as Interstellar Services Department. We monitor the EVE Message Boards to make sure the Forum Rules are followed, while interacting with the community.
Requirements:
- Good communication skills including good written skills.
- Active participation in the discussions on the EVE Message Boards.
- A minimum of 3 months playing EVE.
- No forum bans issued, a low amount of warnings may be accepted.
- Experience using IRC is prefered but not a requirement. We ask you
to include your experience with IRC somewhere in the application.
- Access to an email client
- 18 years of age is a minimum, older is a merit.
You do not have to have to be an expert in English, but you will have to know enough to communicate with it. You also have to be able to read and understand it enough to moderate effectively.
A well written application is a big plus! We look at other things as well, but good application has a better chance. Please do not apply with trial accounts - these applications will not be processed.
You can apply by clicking the ôInterstellar Svcs Deptö button under ôEVE INSIDERö in the menu to your left. If you have already submitted an application please update it. Make sure that you've checked the ôEVE Forum Mod (CRC)ö choice under question 5 (What area are you interested in volunteering for?).
You can read more about the EVE Volunteer Program (ISD) and EVE Forum Moderator Team (CRC) in the FAQ, Player Guide and on our website.
Our systems rely on you having the correct email in your account details. If you have an old email there that you don't use we will not be able to contact you. Make sure your email is updated under account management! Also, if you have already applied and you haven't heard from us, check if your email spam filter may have blocked our email to you (especially with web-based email systems such as hotmail, yahoo etc.). We make an effort to ensure that every application receives a reply.
Looking forward to your applications!

Speaking as one who's been on the team for around 5 months now I can honestly say being a mod is a lot of fun and one of the best things I've applied for. Not just because Eris talks to us <3
There are sometimes hard choices to make, but the moderation team is very strong and if you have made the right choice you will have the full backing of everyone. We're all active and support each other if we need any other opinions.
If you have a passion for a given section of the forum make sure you note it in your application, and upon successful application you will be encouraged to moderate it!
You've got nothing to lose by putting in an application, so please do

Its not about the banning. In fact, this is something that no one likes to do. Only lead moderators may issue them, and then only after following a strict procedure.
Moderating the forums is about ensuring the forum remains an enjoyable experience for all members of the EVE-Community. And in doing so, we have a good time.

Dear All,
Please join the fun. You don't have to have english as your mother tongue (it is not my case) to apply. It can be a fun way to improve your language skill.
As regarding to warning, we really are trying not to warn people and give them a chance to amend themselves. Moderating is not about punishing people but it is about regulating the flow of information.
Also, you will have the privilege to moderate with jacques just voted ISD volunteer of the year. What can be better than that. So come on apply now.

Seriously, its a good idea to copy your answers into notepad or something - might save you a bit of grief. I've updated the top post to remind people of this.

I would love to apply, I just have one quick question: how much time is required from each mod in order to be one? I have lotsa time right now, but once my job starts up I may only get 2 hours/weekday to be on the forum. Plenty of time on the weekend, unless my girlfriend has other plans

Edited with a few questions.
I know that if you are in ISD you have to communicate through a dedicated character. What if you don't have any character slots left on your account? Or are you given a separate limited account for ISD purposes?
Also, are you allowed to be in more than one department at a time (in my case STAR and CRC), or would that just be craziness? Would you technically need two different ISD characters?
And as someone asked previously, what is the minimum involvement you are looking for. I will certainly be as active as possible (if the amount of time I spend currently is any indication, it will be a lot) but now and then things happen.. I'm sure you've covered this before with people.
to answer your questions:
1) you get a separate volunteer account if you are a member of ISD. This is just for your volunteer character and is in no way related to your player account.
2) You're only allowed to be in one department at a time - its not possible to volunteer for everything at the same time. But if you apply for CRC, we'd like you to be sure of it. You can also apply to the other ISD divisions at the same time, their recruitment processes are separate from ours.
3) Most vols spend a minimum of one to two hours a day reviewing the forums, sometimes more time on the weekends or during patch days. If you already read the forums a lot, then its a bonus, since you can moderate whilst browsing the forums.

It's not Veldspar, but new and promoted mods are hazed with the pelting of various fruits, items and people. For some reason, being sprayed with a Sodastream recently became popular.
On a more serious note, being in ISD is a load of fun. The volunteer community is like an extended family, even with the friendly rivalry between the teams.

The hazing rituals only involve being pelted with varying fruits. Well these days they do. Too many complaints from people joining about the broomstick
While we are CRC we do still have close ties with all the other ISD teams, and also Kieron and Wrangler are always on hand to make us feel all loved
If you're ever unsure of which ISD to be ... be CRC. (Yes I might be just a BIT biased here )

I just want to say that I'd be a perfect moderator: I have great communication skills and rarely take a side or let a personal bias interfere with my work or how I treat people.
However, I like to say ****. And i like people to speak their minds. So i'd 'moderate' jack ****.

Does it count as a merit that I've been the head moderator for a certain indie movie community for four years?
...as for characters, do we create new ones for ISD or transfer our old char to it? Assuming of course that we get picked.

I can safely say that anyone applying for the programme will not regret it.

1. It would help.
2. You get a new ISD account created for you and you create a new moderator character for yourself. ___
