mine is really boring - it's my real name with a letter missing
I usually have a decent imagination but in this case apparently not
Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure? |

Techie Zero
|
Posted - 2003.10.27 16:51:00 -
[122]
I made up the name on the Anandtech forums (a technical forum about PC technology etc) and at the time had been watching lots of anime. So I came up with an anime sounding first name--Techie.
The Zero comes from my influences LARP Vampire with a cool guy named FATHER ZERO---who in turn makes a reference to what is known as a PATIENT ZERO---who is the first person to have an infectious contagion. The Alpha of an Omega, Father Zero was our leader.
It was the same name I had in Beta---but Techie was more of M3G4's crafter and Station Manager when we had one of the player owned stations.
Now in retail Techie Zero really does not do as much crafting etc that his Beta version did, but I stuck with the name. EVE-I.com~THE Info source |

Harrow Wilkes

[123]
I originally came up with the name of Harrow Wilkes from my early D&D days (probably circa 1985ish). Since then I use this name in almost evert MMORPG I've ever played. My last incarnation of Harrow Wilkes was from Ultima Online where I was a founding member of the TTP (Trinsic Town Paladins). It just sounds like a cool name to me.

AD&D Version 2. Created this character a long time ago playing Forgotten Realms. In FR there is a realm called Cormyr, and the character I was creating was ostensibly from of royal blood, so I just adapted the name of the realm.
Astara is a nod to the fact that EVE is not AD&D and is set in space. :P

I just wrote down combinations of letters and played around with them till I got somethig that sounded right.
There are some excellent names in this game enough to keep any sci-fi writer/series in material for years!

Naz Farooq
|
Posted - 2003.10.27 19:52:00 -
[127]
Naz is my nick-name from many online games, been using it for 8 years or so. From my first ork warboss for a tabletop wargame that I started playing back in '90. It's convient in that it's easy to type and quick to say over Teamspeak.
Farooq is the root of my in-law's last name and is of Arabic origins.
I like using a first and a last name on the off chance that I want to create multiple characters, it's easier for folks to realize that I'm both Naz Farooq and Rafi Farooq, for example. Sure, everyone supports saving Einstein's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, suddenly you've "gone too far". |

my nickname always used to be Dire, but often its taken and cant use it. so, to get around it, i just altered the name a bit and came up with Dirus (pronounced like virus, NOT darius, damnit!) ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

Mutara Nebula
|
Posted - 2003.10.27 21:37:00 -
[129]
Mine is quite easy to recognize. I always loved the scene when Khan was chasing Kirk and they entered the feared Mutara Nebula, where the final battle took place...
Btw I like changing nick when I play a new game, doing this I feel like forgetting what I have done previously, I feel that I don't have to continue to act as I did in my previous game experience.
My most loved characters have been: Mundungu I (who knows Magic the Gatering will recognise this name easily), in Ultima Online, Drachenfels server. Mapi Nyo (Mapi is my wife's nick irl ), in Everquest, Vallon Zek (pvp) server.

LOL @ The game leaves ample room for continual progress and variety in all its solo playing aspects.

NeoMorph

[133]
People assume that NeoMorph came from a merger of Neo and Morpheus from the Matrix....
The fact of the matter is I was NeoMorph before the Matrix ever got released... It was originally from a sci-fi book called EON where people changed their bodies and were called neomorphs... as I'd just started taking morphine at the time I thought it was an apt name and started to use it... This was back in 1989 - 10 years before the Matrix! -------------------------------------------

Quote: Nah, the half-Celestials in D&D are called the Aasimar, the Biblical half-angels were the Nephilim.
Yea, followed by their D&D counter parts the Tieflings, or half demons. I just wanted to keep the phonetics the same. You can see I changed the spelling a bit.
And, I actually remembered where "Kurdugal" part came from. I was trying to think of a kind of naval/admiralish type name. Of course the name Admiral Degaul came to mind from Starcraft: Broodwar. I think the "Kur" adds a bit of Minmatar/Eveishness.
Quote: I'm glad someone is going around resurrecting all these interesting threads that I missed first time around.
I only made it like a day and a half ago.

Edited by: Ermenegildo Zenya on 27/10/2003 23:55:05 My name Is taken from the most sophisticated Men's Outlook creator - Ermenegildo Zegna. The original form was misleading cos Zegna fonetical is Zenja - i wanted it to look more cool so I replaced "j" with "y". And Here I am, Ermen's extra long Bio has given him deeper meaning. I am also called Ermen or [my favourite] R-men.

Kunming
|
Posted - 2003.10.28 08:27:00 -
[142]
Kunming is a lake city in south China (If the city takes its name from the lake or the lake takes its name from the city, that I don't know)
We had quite an interesting chat, the other day, about movie and game producers who get the names they need from China and Africa, since they r the places that have the most "names" and the most unknown ones...
For ex. in Dune 2 the name Ordos comes from a river in China...
Interesting topic though, congrats Asimir for the little change of flavor on the forums.

Some time back I chose the name OsirisFrost but I didn't want to use it agian since I figured I'd be using multiple characters so I took my love of Egyptian mythology and Stargate: SG-1 and Setesh was born. It didnt hurt that some ponce took my name from Earth and Beyond, Nazgul. My alt is named Baast btw. I swear I'm gonna hunt down the guy who took Anubis cause I so wanted to make an Amarr with the hood over his face.

Scal Hart

[144]
Edited by: Scal Hart on 28/10/2003 09:46:45 In the beta I was Scal and when I finally got the retail this fall I just added the Hart to it.
Scal is short for Scalio, which is a misreading of my real surname and I've been using Scal or Scalio on the internet ever since, so if you run into that name somewhere it just might be me ;)
Hart is just something added, tho it has some connection to a nickname my grandfather has given me. And I like to think that you can either understand it as Heart or Hard.
Overall I'm not very pleased with the name, but I'm so far into this char that it's too late to complain now.

The Vasudan's were an alien race from Freespace, Hatshepsut, as well as being an egyption Pharaoh, was also the name given to the Vasudan's primary Destroyer.
Usually join the two names together to make Vasudan-Hatshepsut. When restricted by name lengths I just use Vasudan.

Durandal
|
Posted - 2003.10.28 11:14:00 -
[147]
There are a number of places my name could have come from however I took it from what is, in my opinion, one of the greatest FPS's ever - Marathon. The second game in the Marathon series was called Marathon 2: Durandal, Durandal being the unstable AI from the first game that ends up helping you out and becoming a bit of a hero in the second game.
For those that have no idea what I am talking about think Halo only much better and a long time ago....M2:Dur blew even Doom and Doom II away IMHO

Tinwhistle

Posted - 2003.10.28 11:25:00 -
[150]
I usually selected names from novels and such before... But when I started out in EVE, I wanted my name to be something special, not just taken from someone else. I wanted a name that would sound like the way I wanted my character to be. A bit of a jester, a bit of a thief, but with honour in that. Just when I was about to give up on finding a name, my look came to rest on the box that I collect all the tidbits in that don't have a real place to put them to. And somewhere in that junk there was my old tinwhistle. So the name was born...
