is it just me or arent the search tags working?
At least for me the minimum search, i got a lot of stuff that i buy constantly and i usually pick em up when i pile reaches a certain size, but i just can get the minimum setting to work with the new search window. It does search and finds the item, but completely ignores the quanity of the item, meaning i got some 150 or so stations not worth my time that i cant sort through at all. |

Wow, double plus LIKE!
And saved searches are now super easy. Just type the search in your Notepad and copy/paste. Love it!
And don't listen to the haters. Not everything needs a constricting array of a zillion check boxes. I miss the liberty of an elegant, well designed command-line interface. I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs. |

since this is a complicated feature and not that 'natural' for us retired foke can there be a web link on the bottom right corner of search box header that will load up the Eve Wiki in the in game browser box. So almost a "whats this" button.
Thinking about it putting a question mark next to the pin this window that would load up the wiki page describing the features and how to use to a it window it is addressing would be help full for all users of the game. In the game tutorial have the tutorial program bring this to the attention of the Capsuleer
oh I am so puting this in the Ideas and features sections I agree with several people: CCP needs to focus most of eve's recources on FIS, but the development of WIS still needs to continue, just as a slower and more efficient pace. In eve I wish to be more than just a machine. |

It would be much better if there were an option to exclude certain types or groups. For example I sometimes make such a search through my assets: Find everything that is in empire but not a rookie ship and not a shuttle. (Just to go all over the place and gather my assets all over the empire) This kind of search is useful for me. Trashing my shuttles and noobships isn't an option. 90% of them holds some memories and I'm a very sentimental person. But gathering noobships is a bother and i actually prefer my shuttles to be spread all over the place (so that I don't need to buy a new one every time I need a shuttle i will buy new one just 4 out of 5 times )
Maybe you should add keywords: excludetype excludegroup
Pretty please |

We do have designs that will integrate keyword hints and accessible in game documentation of the options but we where out of time to implement it. We agree that out of game documentation is not ideal at all. At least the functionality is there. I'm positive this will get some love in the coming weeks and/or months.

Woohoo. Best new feature of the release.
Now, if you could fix the 2 annoying bugs of the asset window:
1. Sorting by number of items (in any tab, not just search) is reversed with locations with only 1 item at the top. Almost always the stations with the most items are what's of interest. This changed the last time the asset window was revised. This wouldn't be that bad since I could just scroll to the bottom, except for:
2. The #$^@*!&^### bouncing to the top no matter how it's sorted. Especially annoying when sorted by jump and you're trying to sell off items 42 jumps away and just as you click on it ,poof, you are at the top again. This can happen every few seconds. Appears to happen every time something is sold or bought, since it increases after updating market orders, and greatly increases if selling minerals when you can get a heck of a lot of orders in a row. It would greatly improve the usefulness of the window If you could make it so that it would not update or not move when updating. Since it's delayed 5 minutes anyway there seems no purpose.
As far as the minimum size of the asset window, narrower is better. One of my major uses of the window is for navigation when collecting all the crap scattered over the universe. It's still a bit wide for keeping open.
Any chance of adding grep searches? I can't think of any real use for it, but it would be way cool... |

Ahh! a filter system!
Thank you for bringing this 'useability' feature with great potential. It is already great but since I guess you are aiming 'perfect',here is my advise to make it even better:
1. Additional keyword types: ----Race:A/C/G/M/sasha/angel,etc ----Slot:high/mid/low/dronebay/ship modification... ----Tech level min/max:1,2,3 ----Damaged:Y/N ----Skill qualified:Y/N ----Distance from where I am min/max: jump numbers form where I am, this will become more important if you adopt this filter system to ,say market. ----In hanger or in cargo/container ----Overall invert filter: maybe can be done with a checkbox ----BPO/BPC
2.Change the metalevel keyword Metalevel into MetalevelMin and MetalevelMax.
3.Make a decent GUI to make these features accessable to more, and this time do it right the first XXX time. Football manager is a good example to follow FYI.
4.Please let us name and save our customized filter setting like we do with overview, and let us add multiple tabs in asset windows to use these customized settings.
5.Adopt this filter system to market please! The filters can bring EVE to a totally different league of usability.
6.maybe you can combine station item window and asset window into 1 with this system: current station is just a setting with Distance=0, so the item window can be made just a tab in asset window. |

CCP Frellicus wrote:Renan Ruivo wrote:But still no SMA and corp hangar search for wormholes dwellers. I"m afraid this is out of scope for what I have been working on but I'll raise the issue. This is one of the thing that causes EveHQ's prism to be far superior to the ingame asset handlers. You can filter for groups, subgroups, corps, members, whatever, it searches among inspace POS modules, containers, ship storages (SMB, CHB, fittings), everything.
Once I was told that despite the remote R&D/manufacturing skill allows us according to its description to insert remote jobs, this doesn't work on POS structures because the ingame UI is unable to handle non-stations-stored items, so we still have to crawl to these structures and insert the jobs locally, though we have the skill to do it remotely. It just doesn't work.
It would be indeed time to both have the ingame asset handled as capable as evehq's prism, and to be able to handle our industry jobs remotely, even on POS structures (without involving stations). |

CCP Frellicus wrote:Pierced Brosmen wrote:Could parts of this keyword feature also be implemented in the Filter in hangars and container windows? Like if you have a container full of loot, you could type in the Filter metalevel:4 for example.
Would also be very usefull if the asset search could search for items inside containers or ship cargohold with keywords like container:true and cargo:true ? I'm asking this cause I find it a bit funny that 3'rd party applications can do that based on the API information, but the in-game search can't (at least the old one couldn't, haven't got around to test this new one yet). If this is generally well received we will be looking in to introducing filtering this to other places like corp assets and even inventory filters. As for the cargo and containers that has to do with nested database queries (read: lots of DB load) but why it differs from the 3rd party API is something I'll look into. Won't make any promises about that though. Aslo, on ranges. Instead of min-max keywords, you could have search ranges.
Take this metalevel example. Instead of minmetalevel/maxmetalevel, this could be done with ranges.
metalevel:-4 (bellow and up to 4) metalevel:2- (2 and above) metalevel:3-12 (from 3 to 12)
This would be more usable, less keywords, more agility in searches, and less typing, more straightforward. |

CCP Frellicus wrote:That is sort of the point. The initial change was to simplify the interface. We don't want to clutter our interface with every conceivable search term in an assortment of tick boxes and drop down menus. When most people don't understand half of the options. Yet we want to allow power users to have access to those options. I agree that more can be done to present players with what options are available and we have plans to improve that.
That looks quite confusing, I might help power users, but only if they know of it existence. How will players find the keywords for this search when your devblog has disappeared?
A more advance menu with a thickbox for these options would be a much better way and clearer way to enhance the search experience.

As you can see from Frellicus' replies in this thread then the plan is to continue iterating on this. |

This is the first time in a long while that I read a DEV blog that I disliked. I dislike it for the following reasons:
- Where is the option to search inside / outside cans?
- What about items inside POS hangars? can we search them?
- I read the entire article, and all I could think while reading was: How did they dock those Erebus inside stations?
Picking the Erebus as the example is the absolutely worst possible choice...
- Absolutely no user friendlyness.
Inventing a strange syntax for searching reminds me of how the old internet search engines used to work before 1995. You might argue that EVE is not supposed to be "User friendly" but why not? Read http://blog.caspio.com/web-database/7-tips-for-creating-user-friendly-search-forms/ You could place a dropdown icon next to the search textbox, that would open a window with actual labelled text fields where the user could enter each search term. This is much more user friendly than having us learn strange keywords
- I do agree that some of the search screens have become somewhat difficult to use because of all the search options
(At times it's even difficult to find contracts assigned directly to yourself) But this "solution" to the problem is even worse

Quick question since I can't log in and check since I'm at work...
I remember a long time back trying to search for one of my ships by what I named it and it didn't seem to work. Was a feature like that ever added? I still have trouble remembering the type names, especially if it's been a while since I've logged on due to RL, but I always remember what I named it. It would be nice to say, "hmm... where did I have Bebop docked?" and just search for "Bebop" in the search field.
If it'll do it now then awesome! If not, then it would be awesome! lol :) |
