 one more question for ya!

What are you starting with? Do you have 3d files that you're unfolding with something like pepakura designer or are you unfolding these things by hand?

You're work has been linked from 4chan.org's papercraft and origami image board . Usually it's the same old reposts but the regulars tend to discuss printers and glue and such on a pretty regular basis. Something to note: laser printer ink usually crumbles when it's bent sharply...

Forgive the horrible picture from the free digital camera. I havn't cut out the antenas yet, I was thinking about reprinting them on overhead trancparancies to make them less delicate.

It must have been a labor of love to make those patterns, very nice work man.

Nice work! Always good to see somebody else put these together!
The antennas on OHP sheets is a good idea.

I unfold em by hand, looking at the models within the excellent tri exporter (<3 Selvin, must send you a "cheers" EVEmail

Hope to have something new for right after Christmas though.

Alright so if I wanted to make one for the community, which ship should I work on? (I've got a number of other papercrafts on my plate but it'd be worth it to give back to a community that I really enjoy)

I wouldn't want to take on a project you're tackling already...

I had a few questions/comments relating to these models.

First of all, good work! Eve is lucky to have a community that applies their real life know-how to enhancing the enjoyment of the game of everyone else. I look forward to building some of these models in the near future.

Today I went to a local Fedex-kinkos (I live in the United States) store and did some digging around for some info. Full color prints are only 89 cents per page for 20lb paper, and I believe a slight premium on heavier paper. This seems to bring the project printing cost to around $10, easily doable to try a multi-weekend distraction
  .
When I did some math, it seems like the 160gsm paper translates to around 50lb paper here, which I didn't find. When I was looking at Kinko's samples, they had a 70lb sheet available. However, when I played around with it, it still seemed like a flexible sheet - is this correct? Should I be looking more towards a card stock? Something stiff that can support itself? Or will the more flimsy stuff be fine? I'd like input from some successfull builds made according to US standards materials.

Finally, on a related note, can anyone recommend a ready source of A4 sized paper in the US? Neither Kinko's nor Officedepot in my area carried it, and sometimes I need to print A4 documents and have to scale/adjust to letter, gets somewhat annoying.

 Thanks all,
 Shiva

This is the exact paper I use:
 Staples "text & graphics" 160 g/m2

Taking a look here gives an approximate. So your 70lb stuff sounds about right - it should be flexible, but also enough to take it's own weight and provide some support. I had a hard time with getting both the Rifter and the Heron to support themselves with thinner paper, and any thicker would have meant the smaller parts are really hard to cut and fold.

I had a quick look on the Staples US website, which list a bucketload of paper types, including some stuff that looks like what you'd be after, and they appear to do mail-order as well.

I'll see what I can knock up. Having enough problems snaring the time to finish #4!!
I will sort them though (We need a "Soon" smiley)

I've had some donations from charitable folk, and I'm most grateful as it fuels my Loosing-Dominix-To-NPCs habit nicely
. I'd never charge for this stuff, partly cause it's CCP IP and partly cause there's enough stuff around in the past that I wanted to do but couldn't because there's a charge that got in the way.
That said, if there's a clear want for a particular ship then EVEmail me and I'll tally the most popular and make that #5. I will review the requests so far though and see what there is. I think it's pretty evenly spread though...

 Cheers for all the support

 First off, WONDERFUL WORK.

 Second, nitpicking bastard me says:
Is there any way that the frig models you have could be made in scale to that Apoc model? I'd imagine it would only require resizing the assempbly directions, but I am guessing on that..

I want a squad of little Fimbuls trying to take down my Warship.

I've had a long day, feel free to sort my maths out if it's out

I looked at this before. Using j0's ship comparison chart, I figure that the Apoc is about 30 times the length of the Rifter. Scaling down the Rifter to Apoc scale isn't the best idea as it's a bit fiddly as it is. Plus, it'd be really really tiny.

Sooo, the Rifter is about 280mm/11" long (or thereabouts, don't have the model with me at present). This would make the Apoc a whopping 8.4 metres/27'5" long.
With stiff enough board or internal support (paper pasted onto real thin ply?) and a large enough printer would do the trick.
 Project for this years FF?

I don't believe I only just found this thread. Brilliant work :)

Gonna see if I can print these out soon.

Read something on the other thread about doing these in aluminium, and that reminded me of this model I bought off a street vendor somewhere deep in China while on holiday there. It was a Chinese PT boat, probably about 2 1/2 feet long, made of really thin sheet aluminium. It wasn't that detailed, but it was cheap as hell, and it broke apart fairly quickly because it was put together with super glue, and there were no folded tabs at the joints.

I'm just thinking how amazing one of these would look in aluminium if somehow the textures can be etched on, and painted...

I didnt ment you should put a tax or charge for it... simply:
Different ppl want to see different models coming out of your hands
so instead of just saying i would like to see x, y, z
Make a forum post where ppl could BID on what they want to see... this being by no means an obligation for you... just something to tip the scale maybe...

For me... would be hard to decide what ONE ship i would like to see next... but i do have some favorites...
First thing that comes to mind would be an ADD-ON for the rifter... to make it a wolf
and maybe some better guns for it... like some 200mm ac's and some arty's :)
