Well to be honest they lasted longer than I expected and the rules is the rules.
This sig is Eve related and will be replaced shortly by something cool or funny. |

Edited by: Toman Torax on 11/10/2006 22:30:03 To add even more confusion to the subject, there are still SW related sigs being allowed (and shouldn't they be if they are Eve-related?). So I would really like a clarification of what IS allowed and what ISN'T.
There were sigs removed that had Eve-related content, but copyrighted material.
Yet there are still sigs up with copyrighted material (even SW ones)... and other that are not exactly Eve-related.
So which one is it?

Edited by: Remmington Daniels on 11/10/2006 22:33:19 Sig replaced!
edit. It is eve related (http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/04/sig_oxi_crusader.jpg the original image which tbh is a HOT picture of a crusader dunno who made it I just found it on eve files, step up so I can hug you). My corp name and my corp logo.
meets the following
Quote:
* Maximum height: 120 pixels * Maximum width: 400 pixels * Maximum file size: 24,000 bytes (not kbytes)
Isn't racist, Facist, ASCNist or anything like that. Thats the sort of thing these forums need. -----------------

If you're gonna point fingers you better point em towards ASCN! Best place to start in my opinion.

Yeah I know my siggy sucks, but at least ISD won't remove this one as it meets all requirements. |

I am in agreement that the forum rules regarding this are too vague, and we will make a decision about this soon.
In the mean time, I will give you an opportunity to remove your derogatory signatures or I will have to issue warnings and or forum bans, and I dont want to.

Could we please get serious and precise guidelines from a mod, an official statement with examples of what is acceptable?
People invest their time and effort in creating their sigs, and come to identify themselves with them, their sigs appear to conform to the forum rules (no offensive content, eve-related, ...) and yet they get their sigs pwned.
Then a mod appears and states "copyright infrigement" as a reason for removal.
I seriously do not hold that CCP could be held accountable for forum sigs in any court of law, which means that the users are personally responsible for any possible copyright infringement, and as they were used it should fall under "fair use" policy as it is not used to create any sort of real-life profit from the copyrighted item.
I'm sorry to see some of the best sigs in the game go ... they made the forum much more enjoyable, and made their owners (rightly) easier to recognise.
After many incidents I witnessed or was directly involved in, this is the first time I do not agree with an action taken by someone representing CCP. Forum moderators are volunteers, and I hope that this action was taken without direct CCP approval.
This is not "copyright infringement". This is either panic or a reason that cannot be disclosed.

Signatures may contain copyrighted material at the risk of the user, as stated in the eula we are not responsible for all user related content.
The rules regarding signatures remains the same;
Signature graphics that may only contain your character name, corporation logo, corporation or personal slogan or other text that is directly related to your in-game persona, or content directly related to EVE Online. All content must be in good taste.
The size limits for signature graphics are as follows: Maximum height: 120 pixels Maximum width: 400 pixels Maximum file size: 24,000 bytes (not kbytes)
Only one image is allowed to be used in the signature. Images other than the signature image are not allowed to be posted on the forums.
Just ask if you are unsure.

I believe our sigs meet this criteria, pleased accept this post as an official "question" as to its validity of relevance (not copyright) to eve. Specifically, the quote contained herein.
Thanks :)

Edited by: Ab Initio on 11/10/2006 23:46:18 So we are allowed to use copyrighted material at our own risk, but a sentence later we can only use EVE content?
On a related note, mentioning lag in signatures can be met with a ban / warning?

Yes
Just make sure that your sigs contain your character name, and/or corporation name or corporation logo.

Thanks for the clarification, however I must delve into the specifics here.
Am I to assume that unless the creators of "PongÖ" contact me directly about the usage of my copyrighted material in my sig on these forums, as the file is not hosted here but on a seperate site, then I am free from any ISD moderation under the current rules as stated above?
And as an addendum, how would it be possible for the above mentioned parties to obtain any of my personal details including email addresses or methods of contact etc without CCP giving it to them?
Thanks for your time. ----

If the copyright holders were to contact CCP and they pass us on a mail we will act on it.
Regarding your personal details, I believe we will only give those kind of information out to the police, however if you want clarification on that you will need to contact our community management or send a petition.

I don't think CCP really cares if you use the intelectual property of another in your signature, as their EULA defines they are not responsible for your actions on their forums.
I think the forum rules on signatures are in place as a general guide to keep them uniform in both size and content, within the confines of a young-adult friendly(ish) website.
What they don't want is people using their WOW forum signatures because you have the same name, or using ****ographic pictures, or anything that would be not considered in good taste.
THe size restrictions are to keep the sigs from being an 8 1/2 X 11 sheet (Look at some of them in the Scifi.com forums, you'll see what I mean) and keeping them pointed in the right direction.
I'm sure CCP WANTS people to have good looking signatures, it shows you have some pride in yourself, your corporation, your alliance or your general play style.
New players log on the forums, and if there's a lot of eye candy to look at, they are more likely to feel like Eve is a game they can invest in. That's my opinion on the subject.
I don't really care about BoB's sigs, I'd rather they used their sigs constructively than to make billboards to put down ASCN, but as long as they follow the guidelines who am I to say anything about it?
The bottom line is having a sig shows you care enough about Eve to spend the time to make one, or have one made for you.
They want their players to feel invested with the game, having a good looking signature can help to put you on the path to that.
My two cents.
Hidden in this signature is a secret message.
Send me isk, Caracals cost money.
