Any answer would be appreciated, thank you very much

Battleships are SO overdone. It seems like EVERYBODY has them these days! ------------------------------- Sorry I stunk up the factory.

Solo-pwn-mobile!
Seriously, the BS has no specific role and can take out any ships class. Yeah yeah, I know that a handful of frigs or cruisers can do the same but then again those ships have a more specialized gang together and not to forget that "the pilot" is the most valuable asset in this game.
If you wanna solo you're either in a BS, a vagabond or one of those nasty cloaking recons, BS being the least skill intensive (its still alot though) in comparition.

When I hear "Battleship", I instantly think of only a handfull of things: L4 mission runners, fleet/sniping setups, gate campers/snipers. So, basically, medium-to-long range huge damage dealers, and that's about it. Other than that, BSs are way, way overrated IMHO. Tanking wise, I'd fly my Ferox (or Nighthawk/Vulture, but don't have all prerequisites skills for them on this char) any time of the day vs a Raven (actually, now, at over 4 mil SP total on this char, I don't even HAVE BS L1 yet). __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

Battleships have no special meaning to me, being from a small country the biggest is a frigate so thats what I focus in :D
Thinking of battleships brings one image to mind: BROADSIDE!
I love the limited footage that exists from way back when. Guns swiveling and the barrels being thrown back when fired. Pure power!

I like using a combination of medium and large guns on the Apocalypse, x4 T2 Tachyons x3 T2 Heavy Pulse. People are narrow minded if they think because they fly a Battleship they cant fit it to deal with big and small targets.
Edit--
Ontopic,
The word Battleship makes me think of Heavy Nosferatu.

And you'd lose. *Shrug* I dont care how long you could stand up to a Raven one on one, you wouldnt stand a chance of breaking its tank, and while thats not what we're discussing here, its just a matter of fact if both pilots have a brain*.
* - One that works.
I'd rather meet a Raven in another Raven or a Blasterthron, in my case, a B-Thron is where its at.
A battleship, to me, means alot of fun in an expensive ship that I dont get to solo often in, and having close combat with other big targets makes my wee wee happy in my pants.

It seems like the cool thing nowadays to mock Battleships.
No matter how cool t2 ships are, battleships will always remain. Why? Because they occupy a certain role within a fleet that will always be in demand.
To the person talking about his ferox: I used to specialise in Feroxes and Ravens. Although the Ferox definitely has the potential to tank any Raven instilled damage *almost* indefinitely, it could never ever hope to break the tank of a Raven, if the person piloting it has at least two brain cells.
What battleships mean to me? I am someone who likes messing around extensively with setups to fit new innovative things to confuse my enemies. Battleships offer most potential for doing so, which is why I like them. That, and their damage potential.
Other than that, I plan to get myself in a Command Ship soon. *drools*

Edited by: Akita T on 12/10/2006 09:01:19 Well, I don't expect to win against a Raven in a Ferox, I just expect to survive enough to get away :) I'm a L3 solo / L4 gang mission running carebear
And of course, I can barely wait to get the needed skills for the Nighthawk and the Vulture already (NH solo, Vulture in gang). __ Always question everything. Including yourself. |

My views are not eve views, it seems...
Battleship, to me, means: heavyweight boxer (anti-battleship, bombardment, command roles)
a) Big ship b) Heavily protected against gunfire c) vulnerable to some weapon types d) long endurance e) good command, sensor functions f) narrow role g) poor agility, wide variety of speed types (mostly slower)
Battlecruiser to me means: bantamweight boxer (anti-cruiser, anti-raider, command role)
a) A smaller number of battleship-class weapons b) armor equivalent to a heavy cruiser c) less mass (armor) equals more speed and agility d) more versatile secondary armament options
So... I guess my battleship is an eve Dreadnought, and my Battlecruiser is an eve battleship, and the battlecruiser is a heavy cruiser...
(But this is all based on nautical impressions, so CCP can do whatever they want in space!!)

I don't think anyone mocks BS as such, just the huge influx of ISK-loaded newbies jumping into them without any understanding of how important support skills really are.
Back in the good old days money was a natural limitation on how fast you could progress into large ships. Nowadays, even for those not whoring ISK off of ebay, it's stupidly easy to make cash. For fun I made a new Minmatar character some time ago and ran some missons with him; by the end of a week I'd made 30M and he was beginning to farm the easier L3s.
I fear a good BS pilot. But I laugh at the majority of BS pilots, quite frankly HACs scare me a lot more because they always indicate a solid SP and player skill investment.

They are not narrow minded mate, think before u jump to conclusion. People dun usually mix up with range and size of their guns due to a few factors : 1) equal range on all guns give pilots a better idea on how far to warp to. It is useful in a fleet i.e 2) Most battleships (not apocalypse tho lol) have bonus specifically assigned to types of guns. I.e, Megathron has damage bonus to large blasters and railguns, would be a very silly idea if u fit 4 large neutrons and 3 light electron blasters even tho u think light electrons might hit smaller targets better. To be able to hit smaller targets with big guns u will need to web them.
When I hear Apoc ;-) i think Banana ;-) when I hear armageddon i think - big *****ooooooo....lol

Large, overpowered, solo pwn mobiles that are overused. If they deleted Battleships tommorow EVE would be a better game for it.. not saying they should, but they definitely need a proper role and be less of an "anti-everything" ship.
