I had the most unfortunate experience to log on yesterday and listen in on the CFS Chat channel.
The language and childish sentiments expressed by members of the CA (Cursed Alliance ??) was sickining and horrifyingly amusing !
Poor old Edward Preble (CFS Navy) was was trying to have a reasoned arguement (in character)with some of these CA chaps about the orgins of the CA/CFS conflict but the way these 'young lads' replied you'd think they where getting a thrill out of using naughty words. Any sort of reasoning or simple arguements made from Ed Preble was greeted with derision of his sexual performance or comparing him to someones (and I quote)'PeePee'.
Meanwhile some chap by the name of Lord Draco attempted to drag the conversation in to new fertile intellectual fields with such comments such as 'CFS Navy suxs' and 'Use fullahs are stuffed' or the classic 'We done your Navy over'.
To these Intellectual Giants of the CA ... Comon' guys ..you can do better than the dribble we have been getting on CFS channel.
Repeating, in caps, how you want certain CFS members to suck your *%$#, over and over doesn't really have an enduring comic value.
Step AWAY from the keyboard .... Take a DEEP breath.
The comedy continues on CFS chat channel ....

Nice. Some good sweeping generalisations here.
While there are some in the CA who could do with a few sessions in charm school, there are an equal number of CFS pilots who are definite charisma bypass outpatients.

Why yes, what a wonderful blanket statement I guess I must have halfed in age when I decided that PvP was better than staring at a pixelated asteroid for 4hrs a night. (oh and I do try to PvP, not camp jump-ins before you throw that tired statement back at me)
Some people are idiots, you can't excape that fact no matter where you go but I'm getting fed up with this, Pirates = Kiddie rubbish that gets thrown about on these forums.

Edited by: Macumba on 30/10/2003 12:39:31 The same can be said of any alliance. They all have their share of idiots.
After all, its always the same names that show up to troll on any CA thread, no matter what its about. Just like its a safe bet that a Xanadu member will show in a post that has nothing to do with them.
The argument that everyone in the CA is either a pirate, or a 13-year-old, or both, is neither accurate or new. Its just as easy to cry 'teenager' when somebody isn't 'nice' to you, as it is to cry 'griefer' when somebody kills you. A lot of people in EVE need to grow a backbone.

I'm not going to blame you personally for this; firstly, because you just happen to be the one out of god only knows how many that I spotted, and secondly, because it's usually down to upbringing anyway.
But this paragraph pretty much sums up what's wrong with EVE, online games generally, the internet generally, the whole god damn society generally. So many people who think they have a right to behave however they please, and if it upsets anybody then it's up to those *other* people to show some backbone and deal with it.
Even I, a mere 33 years old, can just about remember a time when people used to put society before their own selfish desires. I seriously doubt that we'll see that happen again in my lifetime.

Very true. I don't care if someone is a pirate or not, if they are polite I will be polite back. If they aren't polite, well then I can always ignore them.

I would like to add another opinion to this topic. I am a member of the CA alliance and not a regular pathetic flamer to sum so many words and opinions up. I can also say that as far as the maturity level of most of the members of the alliance there are the usual amount of sophomoric persons who seem to like to post inflammatory comments in game and forums. Why they do this when there is really no need I donÆt know. There are also members of the CA that are not only mature, but able to frame an intelligent conversation without the topic degenerating into swearing, name calling, or other derogatory statements. I admit I am not one to post regularly in this or any forum other than my Corp forum. But I see so many topics of discussion that throw a blanket statement on the CA in general being a bad thing that it is time that perhaps a different voice spoke up. I am a co-director of my corporation, which makes me a voting member of the CA council as well as the one who suggested to my corporation that we join the Curse Alliance. My Corp does not engage in piratical activities nor do we go seeking a fight with anyone although if someone brings a fight to us we will not back down if the fight is feasible. As of this posting my time in the CA has been a mostly pleasant and beneficial alliance with the other corporations in the Curse and Wild Lands area. The saying of there is safety in numbers holds true in this area of space and I have protected and been protected by other members of the alliance which is gaining so much notoriety as a pirate alliance. It is my understanding that the persons who run the game did not intend for experienced players to remain in secure space. With that in mind my Corp has moved into the less secure areas and are patiently waiting for the equipment required to make it work correctly to arrive (mobile refineries, player stations, sentry guns). As there is a noticeable lack of npc stations in any 0.0 space that makes it so those wishing to pursue business endeavors to bunch up in what has become alliance territories in mostly all areas of non secure space. Its a step that is inevitable until and probably even after the above player run items are available, the protection and cooperation of players will be what keeps them running. If that protection and cooperation comes from the CA, which is the area my Corp was established in well before the CA came about then so be it. If the CA begins to show itself as a bad move and the majority of the decisions voted on by the council become infeasible or impractical then like so may other alliances that have come and gone it too will fail. It is not the just the kids or the sophomoric attitudes that run the CA which is what I wanted to point out. Perhaps in the future postings of inflammatory comments could be directed at those parties who wish to be involved in such things rather than blanketing the whole of an alliance. If however someone if wanting to voice a reasonable and intelligent topic there are those of us that are more than capable of not degenerating into name-calling and such.

Edited by: Scragg on 30/10/2003 18:19:49 Having spent a few hours in the CA Teamspeak server I will say I have seen and heard better manners and language from a ship full of sailors. I lived on a US Aircraft Carrier for over three years. That should tell you something about many of the people in the CA.
I know for a fact not everyoe in the CA a rude, foul mouthed 13-year old idiot. Any group is always judged by it's worst and most visable memebers. Associate to much with idiots and you end up branded an idiot. It sucks but thats life.

If you served three years it cetainly hasn't done anything to your maturity. Did you hound the people who upset you on board the USS Invisible Enemy with petty little remarks every time you bumped into them?

Actually most pirates that I know of are between the ages of 20 and 40 and that goes for the main player base of the general EVE population. I have only met two people that play EVE that are either 15 years of age or under. So it is a common misconception that all pirates are just kids. However people choose to act the way they want and if they choose to act like a child then so be it. But calling pirates "kids" isnt a true statement, and the ones stating that are just mad because these players choose to have fun killing other players than mining or making money by manufacturing and trading. I myself am 25 but as most who read my posts can tell that I am childish at times( I feel the FLAMES coming). But that is because I choose to act that way.

Rage against the kids! Rage against the kids!
Most kids of under 13 are actually more intelligent, socially mature, and reasonable than a vast amount of people of ages 15-40.
The older you get, the more experienced you get. I respect that, being young myself.
I do not respect you however, when you fail to respect the fact that the younger generations are both more intelligent, inquisitive, and logical than most "experienced" people, mainly because of their lack of experience. (Knowledge shapes your actions)
Most of the extremely immature "kids" I see in online games are actually ages 20-40. And I have seen people of ages 60+ (Yes, really!) flaming and abusing people online. Many of the "veteran" and innately talented (Although some would argue that these can't be applied to online games ) programmers/gamers are children.
So before you speak out and blame all your problems on the new guy, remember that the new guy has you PWNT in 99% of the areas that count in life.
