As anyone can see the numbers of the game are plummeting. This is because CCP simply cannot contol the human pirate problem that has runed the game. You want to push us out but encourage rampit pirate activities to the point that there is no reason to leave Empire space.
My Corp members give you till Jan. of 2004 to ******* fix this problem else we have decided to cancel ALL of our accounts upon expiration, period! This is a very good game that is seriously lacking in control of purely evil people and content.
Your game will die and the servers WILL close because there will simply be no more PAYING customers. Then we can all rejoice over spending $40 for a game that was a total failure.
The time has come to choose, do you want to promote evil people or paying customers.
Screw the damned pirates. They do not pay the majority of your income.
I will remind you that the mags I read gave this game 3 stars at best. So, you are already fighting an uphill battle to keep this afloat. Your only hope now is word of mouth and I don't now ANYONE who is promoting this game.
Finally, I lost a very close friend who did play this game but quit. Another reason for me to consider NOT renewing my subscription.
It's sad when Battlefield 1942 is both free and more fun to play than EVE. The clock is ticking.... time to decide.

I have actually changed my mind about pirates, to an extent, after experiencing a small "rush" of adrenaline last night when our corp roid field was invaded by a hord of (err, 1) Mercenary Frigate/s. Although I wasn't directly involved (being 8 jumps away), the resulting condition red was a bit of a buzz.

I'm not sure about the gate and jump-in campers though, I still think they are muppets.

Wow a lot of emotion their, but who gives anybody the right to demand anything from CCP/Eve.

Offer suggestions,Criticisms maybe, but demands no.

I beleive it's a siimple case of choice, either play eve or don't.

I'm currently enjoying Eve so I'll continue playing and as soon as it becomes boreing to me I'll find something else.

Sure they are a business, but that doesn't mean they are going to change their product to suit the needs of one whining person who failed to notice the PvP nature of their product.

If you want to play a game with no pirates, stay in secure space, or better still, a station.

Oh, and ranting on forums just makes player pirates want to kill you all the more.

Tharizdun, those pirates pay money also. It's so simple. Don't go to .4 or lwer space. Don't YOU get it? I currently live in 0.0 space as a leader of a group of 20+ members and we lose ships to pirates quite frequently. It's the price of doing business out there.

 Thar,

Tut tut tut....as someone with an MBA you should read your first post back to yourself and think again.

You are correct that CCP is in business to make money and you should also look at a concept called the product lifecycle. CCP has roughly 30k subscribers (best guess) which equates to about ú240k per month. This money is used to maintain the game servers etc and make a profit. Not bad when you look at it this way. I will also make the assumption that development costs are covered by box sales (I may be wrong correct me if I am).

The product lifecycle shows that the game will naturally die a death in the future (do we all still play PAC MAN) as nearly all products do, as they go out of fashion. Nothing is forever, live with it!

I don't often post but when I see this 'I know best!!' whiney post quoting age and qualifications without giving a reasoned argument I get a little ****ed off.

I too have an MBA and am over the age of 21. I understand that the game isn't perfect, but then you can't please everyone. When I stop enjoying it I will stop playing. I also know that if CCP lose money the game will fold, so it is in their interest to please the majority. THEY KNOW THIS!!

What you fail to realise is that there have been many carebears threating doom and gloom since day one. Hell CCP made most of Eve PvP-proof. Seriously, did you lose your battleship with the miner 2's on it?

Eve is meant to be a universe where ppl can be what they wanna be. If ppl want to be pirates, they are free to do it.

Most ppl accept that PvP is part of Eve. Could you please post who killed you, so I can thank him/her?

To the first poster - people like you give non-pirates a bad name (i.e. carebear). It's posts like this, and those of people like Tank on the other side of the fence, that make sure the game is never balanced. One whines, so the other whines louder and on it goes, and on, and on, and on....

Most of us non-pirates are quite happy with the fact that pirates exist. Some seek them out and try to take them out, some get their kicks from trying to avoid being caught by pirates or running a blockade. Others still just stay away from areas they know are dangerous. Most people don't complain about pirating, they just get on with the game. But every now and then someone rears their head and starts yet another stupid thread about pirates ruining the game. And so it starts again. Please stop. Thank you.

With no pirates in the game the ship and gunnerymarket would soon die out.
When that happens we only have mining left to do accept hunting npc`s and risk to lose the ship that cant be replaced because no one makes them anymore.

Boost your skills and team up with the rest of your friend and go kill some pirates,i can promise you that when you feel the rush from combat you will like eve more than you ever did before.

And for you flamers on the board, stop flaming and give the ppl some good resons to stay and enjoy the game.

Well I am I guess the only person who sees merit in his post, to an extent...

Player pirates are camping warpin points more and more, lagging with drones and cans. This i belive is just eveil playing. If a pirate waits at a gate for you, and you warp to the gate and get blow up fine, im all fore that, infact i think its part of what makes eve go round. BUT if a pirate is sitting at a warp in point, in which you have no way to defend yourself against, then it is just evil playing, and seriously needs to be adressed.

 Pirates ROCK!
Pirates camping warp in points just to get a huge advantage oversome one SUCK!

I think pirates are kinda funny. But I don't think I'll be going through their pod-kill areas any time soon (I'm too n00b). One day, just for fun, I'll do it - but I'll make sure I have a good clone. The only problem I have with pirate camps is that they choke off deep space - exactly where they want players to go! So in a way, the pirates are destroying their own gameplay which is why I have no sympathy with them.

But like others have said, just don't go there :)

I've read some great flaming here, you should all be soooo proud. Have a think, just for a few seconds if you can, he's got a point.

He's not the only player losing confidence in this game, it seems that there's becoming more and more player pirates in this game due to the lack of options. The agent missions stink because they're clouded in the mystery of whether or not BPs are being handed out - and if they are, you have to be "extremely unlucky" to not have received one after 400+ missions. Tell that to my corp member whose currently ticking over 500 missions. Mining's boring, made worse when some idiot's alt decides to fly upto your can and rob an hours worth of Pyrox.

The point is that the game and the developers survive on our subscriptions, if players take that away then the game is gone. What's the point in flaming Tharizdum, surely that's gonna aggrevate him more and give him and his corp more reason to quit?

I think pirates are fine, my only problem is with CCP and there total lack of customer service. I'd just like a timetable of what's coming up, and what ideas are being played with - just some form of contact from CCP stating that they are aware of their CUSTOMERS concerns and have something lined up. At present it feels quite empty playing the game, because the future isn't known.

If you pirates are enjoying the game, then that's great! But you must see that other CUSTOMER's mentalities do not sway towards piracy and would like CCP to acknowledge that there is a future in this game for non-pirate players.

If you want the game to continue then support posts like this - an Eve full or pirates isn't going to be much fun, nor will it financially survive too long. For every person who voices their concern here, there's more who do not. A lot more.

Altough I do not agree with Tharizdum s opinions with pirates, I do agree that CCP does need to address a few issues with the game. Pirates have been a WONDERFUL aspect of the game for me and I look foward to meeting them in deep space. There are ways to avoid being killed, ie monitor the map, always check your Local, and join a channel that keeps players informed of pirate activity in your area. br br I do not detest pirate activity and don t think threatening CCP with a cancelation for changes in PVP will amount to anything. My issues with EVE stretches across all lifestyles in EVE. Whether you are a miner, pirate, or trader, CCP has kept us in the dark on many topics. They have also proclaimed many empty promises that has left many players with a bad taste in their mouths. This is why I have initiated an INTERNATIONAL EVE LOG OUT DAY. Why dont you go out and buy the Sims online? You and your corp mates cant hack playing with the bigboys. If it were up to ***** mining corrporations like yours, Eve would not even have the option of outfitting ships with weapons. we could all just get together in one big belt and turn on our mining lasers. Oooooh, that sounds fun! Listen, if you are too STUPID to stay alive, then quit. Jesus, 75% of my time is spent is .04 and below and I have only lost 3 ships since release. I hope you quit soon, I'm sick of whiners like you.

The game is still in it's infancy, there's true intelligent evil in the game, currently unseen becuase it dosn't currently have the means to subject you to it's will.

One day it will just appear as and by then it will be much too late, be they Piartes, Carebears what have you, all will fall victim.

Oh and I'm getting serious about the 12 isk, some of you are seriously in arrears my CEO is getting annoyed with all the foul mouthed deadbeats. We actually enjoy cussing at people and other inanimate objects we just want to be paid, so start forwarding the funds ....or else!

Tharizdun does have a valid point, even if it is not made very well.

Consider the average Eve player ôJoeö, he probably has a battleship and a couple of friends in a small corp with a bs and an indy. He fancies a trip into 0.0 space with his mates, where CCP want him to be, to either mine, hunt or just explore. However the nearest access to 0.0 is blockaded by pirates at the jump in points.

Our average player isnÆt adverse to a little PvP action but he knows that if he tried to run the blockade his chances of getting through are minimal. So what does he do? He goes back to mining.

Some idiot then jumps into the belt, tries to steal his ore but only gets a little, and flames our average Joe for mining in empire space in a battleship.

JoeÆs friend in the bs then says @$%@ this and decides to become a pirate, so that is one less corpmate and the indy drifts off to make some isk trading.

So what is Joe meant to do? He doesnÆt want to farm 2.5k rates, he has done enough Omber mining to last his whole Eve life, he doesnÆt really understand the market (which he keeps being told is bugged anyway), he has done enough agent missions and doesnÆt want to be a pirate, pirate hunter or in a mega corp.

All he really wants is a bit of excitement (including being hunted himself) in 0.0 space and a safe bed in Empire with his corpmates.

As Joe turns in despair to the Escape button he decides to put Eve aside for a while.

So all you PvPs, what are you going to do to make Joe log on again? And donÆt just throw the ball to CCP, all players in the community have a responsibility to the game too if they want to keep it alive.

(btw Joe is not me, I'm going to keep on trucking until the server is switched off)

I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ).

 Thar,
Im sorry but im still hurting from laughing so hard. You say this game is dead with 30k subscribers on it. You say this game wont spread via word of mouth because of us pirates. **NEWSFLASH** I have personally helped roughly five real life friends join this game and prosper and guess what IM A PIRATE.

I have never deviated from that statement. The funny thing is the five friends joined and four of them absolutely LOVES being a carebear.

Here is a thought invite some friends to the game. Help them with skill learning strategies becuase yes this helps. Help them with using ingame map features. The learning curve in eve is steep. Everyone admits it. But if someone takes the time to ask me a question about how something ingame works or how to make something work better IM going to answer it to the best of my ability.

Try It mister MBA. Help yourself by helping others. Maybe thats your calling. Otherwise just quit. Funny how a simple mechanic with just a high school diploma can have such enjoyment from this game. And guess what THAR? I get this enjoyment not just from the PVP, but also by helping my friends to succeed and even people i dont know. Bet you never bothered to start a civil convo with that pirate that podded you.

Basically all ive seen of you Thar is an unambitious, LAZY, over egoed person. Come off your high horse and try something other than typing on the forums or GO BACK TO SCHOOL and ask for your INTELLEGENCE back.

Has anyone seen that FedEx commercial where the guy with the MBA has to do the outshipping on the website and he's like "You don't understand, ive got an MBA" and the lady is like "Oh, in that case i'd better show you how to do it."

I thought that commercial was stupid until i read this guys post.

I mean as if CCP is unaware of the fact that if they don't keep their players happy the players will leave and there will be no customers to pay their salaries. Does this guy seriously believe it takes an MBA to figure that out? For the love of God, spare us.

As of now i count 4 Major alliances, CA,SA;NVA and FA. I guess they are pretty much doing the same, planning for the future.

Im sorry that you dont seem to have access to deep space, well those of us that have, had planned on this, get in an alliance and control space, its so simple.

If not stay in empire space, and contract corps who know how to deal with 0.0 space, to get your rare ore and mods.

It is possible Tharizdun got waxed by lag tactics utilised by the bereft of intelligence/wit and was POA (Podded on Arrival). I can't think of any other reason for him to be so irate - pirates are integral and necessary to Eve (even if most of them smell bad and carry all manner of venereal disease).

An amusing aside extracted from the Eve Support db though...

Quote: Killed by a pirate due to lag

Q: What happened and will i get reimbursed?

A: When a player jumps into a system, he is loaded into the system before he sees space and his options load on-screen. This is how the gameplay is implemented. The spawnpoints, where the ships re-appear in the jumped-to-system, are few and that makes it easy for soulless pirates to target and kill defenseless pilots before they can do anything. Some pirates have used numerous battle drones, causing even more lag, which can make your spawntime even longer and thus easier for the pirates to kill you. Since it has been decreed by CCP that this is a gameplay issue and the lag is player created, we are not able to reimburse players that get hit this way.

Which, if memory serves me correct, is a complete about-face from CCP on the use of lag exploits. I seem to recall the nerfing of tin jettisoning to stop just this kind of thing - some bright spark at Dev HQ obviously realised afterwards the same couldn't be done with drones and did an about face on policy.

 Maybe it should read:

A:"We at CCP freely admit that the game engine for combat is about as much use as a chocolate fire-guard and have given up trying to make it realistic and balanced for all parties involved (i.e those camping and those jumping/warping into the camped area) - so dont come whining to us if some kids deliberately lag the game out so they can pod you - it aint our problem anymore...err...until we can fix it at which time the "decree" will be irrelevant"

How many idiots have to post threads like this? Great so you have an MBA, so do a lot of people playing this game. However that does not make up for your obvious lack of common sense. I agree with the others that have posted before me in the fact that if you want to effect a change do it RATIONALY! Do not come to these boards and demand because it only wastes your time and others in this community. I can understand if you lost a ship, but if you did not have it insured you need to re-evaluate how you conduct your "business" in game. He probably wasnt owned in PvP. Some lame exploiter probably had about 20 mining drones deployed and he jumped then woke up in a stations cloning vat.

These people arent even pirates if they were theyd act like Space Invaders and demand your cargo. Theyre griefers who get off on blowing people up. Just look at Tank CEO hes the ultimate griefer.

The only thing CCP screwed up on is not banning him when he was podding newbies in 1.0 space with a -10.0 security rating.

Ban the 5% of the PK Griefers who are ruining the game and legitimate piracy will make a return. Until then people will see all pirates as bad because theyre comparing them to the griefers.

What fun would this game be without pirates? There is no Diablo to venture into the labyrinth after.

Pirates have filled this gap. They've presented the enemy for the supposed "good guys" to go after. (I say supposed only because morals seem to become relative in 0.0)

I'm staying put in Eve and waiting to see where things go.

It's sad when Battlefield 1942 is both free and more fun to play than EVE. The clock is ticking.... time to decide.

If this game turns into a mining simulator I am outa here. But thank CCP and god that it hasn't yet. Which god to thank is beyond me Iam still working on that one.

And on another note there are days where my SIG is a great rebuttle for some of these threads.

I may have to add this one.

I dont know why everyone is dead afraid of gate campers.Speed up your ship to more then 2000m/s and you can forget all the campers, the only issue may be lag espacially on modem , wich i must admit sucks big time and should be really solved soon

For a long time in 0.0 passing through fd-mlj twice a week, havent been killed for along time (3-4 month) .Passing both in cruisers and bs.

I just skimmed over many of the posts in this thread, so excuse me if someone already made this point:

I think the underlying point of Tharizdun's post is, that PvP in this game is a predator/prey relationship, and that right now, there are too many predators. In a situation like this, the prey either gets frustrated and leaves the game, or gives up and joins with the predators. Either way, the game gets worse for the remaining prey, and the game takes a downward spiral from there.

There needs to be a happy balance between the two groups, or the game is almost certain to fail, because Eve's economic model simply cannot support all predators (someone has to keep minerals coming in, or the whole system collapses).

Were not talking about money, we're talking about frustration. If the prey leaves it won't be because they didn't feel they were making enough in game money, it will be because they are not enjoying themselves.

Flat out, there needs to be a happy balance between player types in this game. This game will fail as a mining simulator, but equally so, it would fail as counterstrike in ships. There must be a balance, period.

For those of you participating in the 'definitions' thread, I think Tharizdun just gave us a textbook example of one of the words; I will let you figure out which.

On a serious note, Tharizdun, PvP is absolutely the single most important aspect of this game. The success of every player depends almost exclusively on the ability of combat pilots to destroy manufactured ships and goods.

Granted, the system is fairly broken as it stands now, but that has nothing to do with the "damn pirates" or the philosophy behind PvP in general; it has to do with good design and coding.

If you don't like PvP, that's fine - don't play EVE.

Way to go, Tharizdun; you appealed to the degree for which I have the least respect. What exactly gets taught in an MBA programme? I've never been able to work that out.

Look, a lot of MMOG development is based on solid business practices. A strong, but avoidable PvP element generally wins subscribers. Hardcore players are the centre of your community - casual players will follow hardcore players, but without the hardcore players the community dies.

Did you do any reasearch at all before writing this rant, or is actual knowledge anethema to an MBA?

CCP need to act fast as I have just bought SWG and despite my reservations it is very good, good enough to keep me away from Eve atm. Time is CCP's biggest enemy as there are other games out there where pvp is possible and fun, hopefully this gets sorted as I really like Eve but there is just not enough new to do atm. Eve needs to get the fun factor back, less mining and boring missions and more action please.

I'm not sure which is less productive; Tharizdun's original thread, or some of the "responses" it has received.

In answer to Tharizdun's post; I would have to suggest that you do indeed cancel your subscription and choose a different game; as EVE is a game that was designed to support PvP in the form of piracy.

There are still problems on both side of the "fence"; JIP camping needs to be resolved, just as providing feasible means to pirate effectively needs to be addressed.

There is no "pirate problem"; just an "exploit" problem, which CCP is in the process of addressing.

What a bunch of narrow minded twits! EVE is a BUSINESS! Get it! MAKE money else OUT of business!
I doubt it as I'm 45 and understand these things
but it was worth a try anyway.

Umm i played UO since dec '97 and u know what? the customer base turns over in under a years time
all most every player is less then a year old...
those that are older wish it was back to they way it was in the begining.. just like eve is now! PK's make them game! they are what makes people stay for years instead of months.

o and incase u wana say anything on how dangerous it is...
Im a Aviation Ordnancemen 3rd Class USN
i screw up and up to 6000 people die and over 100 BILLION dollars of ship, aircraft and equipment is vaporized.
i chose this job because it was what i liked to do, if you dont want danger dont expose your self to it. MMORPG's are supposed to provide an alternate LIFE and therfore resemble real life!
if u can get away from danger in RL without paying attention and doing things certain ways on purpose plz tell me the Navy would love to train all of us with that knowledge....
