Edited by: Noluck Ned on 16/10/2006 11:23:49 My alt stand on the brink of choosing a racial frigate to take to 5 with the objective of flying an interdictor.
My origional plan called for her to spec minnies so I can use the claw or wolf too.
However I have discovered that I know too little about dictors to make an educated choice. Could you be so good as to give me a comparison of the relative pros and cons of the dictors you have experience with.
AFAIK the Amarr version is not worth looking at...am I wrong? Also dropping a few fitting ideas would be much appreciated.

well, for starts, Interdictors are Destroyer 5 plus Usually racial frig 5 and skills for an Intercepter. dunno fittings, but know that a 'dictor is limited outside of 0.0 where it can drop its warp bubbles. still suffers from the Destroyer Problem or being made of paper but easy to hit, though more survivable then t1.
suppose it takes a dedicated pilot to use.. because when you launch those warp disrupt probes, your left right in the middle ofthem with the target.
and Im sure we will have some firsthand experience in here in a moment.

here comes the first hand experience :P
Don't use Dictors for the purpose of killing things solo, your first job is to drop the probes, then you can worry about shooting down frigs/ceptors or escaping. Best ship for this, imo, is the Flycatcher, your usually focusing on many things at once and having a weapon system where you can fire and forget until the target dies is helpful, because it lets you focus on evading enemy fire.
Sabre is especially good when it comes to killing things however, with 7 Autocannons with no ROF penalty, it really tears stuff up. Eris and Herectic are a bit more difficult to defend against frigates with, mostly because of their split weapon systems, I don't have experence flying those 2 particular dictors, but i guess they do the job well enough. -----

Thanks man
I had pretty much narrowed it down to Sabre or flycatcher.
I am pretty well aware of what interdictors can and cant do and solo-pwnmobile is not on the can-do list. I will of course be using em in gangs or for fleet support(warp in, pop bubble, pray you get out)

Also be wary of the skills required for sphere launchers - science & propulsion jamming lvl5...
Interdictors are very good & very very useful. I'd highly recommend sticking the tech 2 cloak on one as well though, as if you drop into the middle of a trap speed alone will not save you (you have to be quick on activating the cloak mind).
I fly a Sabre & it's lush. 9AU warp speed means you can get ahead of large gangs easily and drop bubbles then get to safety (again, cloak helps here) and wait for your backup to arrive. This is their main role & it's a fun one to fulfill. You can then engage once the main fight has set off & help pop the interceptors & AFs.

Long story short:
Sabre: pretty easy to fit, fastest dictor, best damage, very good slot layout, long range on guns (thx to bonuses)... It only doesnt make coffee...
Flycatcher: slow (for a dictor), hard to fit when you go for standard missiles. With rockets you can go for ECM which is nice for any gang.
Heretic: decent damage (tho lower than ceptors), pretty hard to fit (5 missile slots but not enough CPU to fit em in decent manner w/o co-procs). VERY CHEAP
Eris - dunno :)

Edited by: Master OlavPancrazio on 16/10/2006 14:38:52 Flycatcher is a crow on steroids. It however is not a very good weapon against BS or long range cruisers cause your sig goes wtfhuge when you turn on mwd.
But it is an awesome kiter, and probably can take on any frig/destroyer 1 v 1.

Why would you want to fit a Heretic with full missles anyway? It has good tracking and Cap bonuses to energy turrets. Four duel light beams with 2 launchers works very well on that ship!
FYI is this my main and I have no idea how to get my corp and alliance tag on this thing

And why not? It has 5 missile slots and i dont think they are for show. Cap bonus to energy turret? Heh... missiles dont use cap at all... Also tracking is no problem with them.
As for your 4x dual 2x launcher: work on your setup cause its possible to use 4x dual and 3x launcher...

Edited by: Bazman on 16/10/2006 15:31:55 Another thing i think the Flycatcher has over the sabre is price, they tend to be much cheaper, although still more expensive than the Herectic and Eris.
edit: Yet another thing I like about the Fly over the Sabre, 5 Med slots. Since i know i'll be running in a gang whenever I fly this, I don't bother with things like ECM or the like, I stick on the standard MWD, Web, Warp Disrupter, and funnily enough, a Ship and Cargo scanner along with light missles. Worked great for determining how much to ransom a ship in my previous corp, and is useful now for those occassions where I want to ransom isk from some poor sod i've caught :P -----

* Log into forums * click the Forums link on the left there, to expnd the Forums section * click Settings link just below the Forums linky * Select the character "Goshin Budo" * Check the "Show Corporation" and "Show Alliance" boxes * Add stupid sig or whatever :-)
Edit: Oh yeah, the Eris makes an awesome T2 shuttle. 400m3 cargo, with high speed, and that's before you put 4 nanofibres and a MWD on it. Or 4 cargo expanders for lots of cargo and a bit less speed.

All you really need to be able to do in a dictor is to be able to drop bubbles and warp out, the more bubbles and the higher speed the better. Thats why I fly an eris with 2 sphere launchers and nanos I dunno about the other ships slot layout/cpu and maybe some others are better for this but I love my pink eris

For small gangs and solo i would chose the flycatcher over anything else. mwd, dual web, dual ecm. Tackled a zealot for a few minutes til support arried with that setup few hours ago. And would have killed this one even solo i think. Full of wcs and damage mods, no hardener. After switching to therm rockets he was going down nicely. Free choice of damage type is allways nice.
For any larger gang or bubbling hostiles during fleetbattles sabre is the best imho: Fastest, low signature, low mass....

others have already said it, sabre is good but biggest drawback is the price. Dictors are essentially flying coffins thanks to their sig radius, anything gets a lock on you will pretty much vaporise your hp's in a few seconds. The sabre is a costly peice of kit relatively speaking to lose, 22mill for the ship, around 10 mill for the fittings and ammo.
If your sole purpose is fleet sphere dropping then use the cheapest dictor you can. If your running around in small gangs say and want some decent firepower then fly the one that suits you best, overall the sabre and flycatcher are the popular ones but the heretic and eris are both decent ships just suffer from a split weapon system like the minnies normally have to put up with.
