you oversized the buffer, you got 2 gig of ram, so you should not be more than 512 if you want to run 4 clients. Even works fine at 256 most of the time. -----------

Hmm, your video card is on fire. It does seem like you video card is overheating. My guess would be to check to see how fast you video card fan is spinning(or if you use a liquid coolant, check to see if there aren't any air bubbles stopping the flow). My guess it is going to slow and not removing the heat fast enough. Had the same problem and got a external video card fan to suck that heat out.
Also, get an air can and clean your computer every once in a while, definalty helps the hardware. --------------------------------------------- Forum Wars!...Because the battlefeild is laggy. |

Try CachemanXP It'll keep any memory issues you are having under control. It helped my laptop when eve was growing to over a gig of memory in the past.
I run 3 clients on my 2.5 year old laptop just fine.
And as I think someone mentioned, that vid card is hot, blow out any dust in the fan or heatsink. If fan seems slow/dieing, replace it.

Get a fan, open your case, and point it into it. If it runs fine, then its definetely an overheating issue and you either need a new card or a new heatsink. (Or you can just leave the fan there)

Make sure the drive that your page file is assigned to isn't nearly full and if you have a 2nd hdd assign your pagefile to come from the non windows drive. Also make the page file a constant value so intial value = 2gb max size = 2gb. It's also worth minmizing the client thats afk aping that could help when running mutiple accounts.

Could be a hardware problem, buying a new pc will most likely solve your problem, you already have a monitor dont you? Just fork out for a new pc, i hear Quad cores might be out next month.

I had similar problems that stopped when I uninstalled ZoneAlarm Free. It worked just fine up until the Dragon patch but not afterwards. No idea what the acual problem was but give it a try if you're using ZA.
(I'm now using F-Secure instead, though I'm sure there are lots of alternatives)

i had a simular problem, my graphics would slow down, then totally die untill i jumped or docked and it reset, it turnout to be teamspeak.. for some reason teamspeak when using my direct sound card caused my graphics engine to fail.
If your using ts or other sound options, turn them to the alternate settings rather than what there on now (sorry cant remember what u said abotu the sound card) and then replay, see if that solves anything.. it baffled me at the time why ts an audio appplication would mess with the graphics.. and i had no overlays or anything weird

I am running the tests now on both problem computers. Second one is a P4 3200, Abit AG-8, 2 Mb Ram (2x1024) Gigabyte 6600GT. Running only one eve client on each atm. 6800GS is steady at 48C and 6600GT is at 57-59C. So far so good but this might take a while, like I said, it's totaly random. If all "software" solutions will fail then I'll proceed to the hardware ones. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Gonada on 17/10/2006 23:42:22 not all video cards are created equal.
case in point: gigabyte nvidia nforce 2 MB(model: cant remeber). that series of motherboards had a flaw that affected the memory slots after a short period of time, BUT it still went on sale in stores, and im not sure ever did release an official word of the defect. If it can happen to a MB, it can happen to a vid card.
trade in that vid card.

You can always try going to Omega drivers for your video card, it solved graphics issues I was having with a couple of my games on my nVidia cards. nVidia drivers suck, tbh. ----------

try an OLDER version of the nVidia drivers. go here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html
I've found this to work with some hardware combo's some times with games.
what ever the most current one is(ForceWare Release 90, Version: 91.47, Release Date: September 14, 2006, WHQL Certified) try useing an older version.
Sometimes moveing one driver version back will fix the issue, especially with older video cards.

Does your screen saver come on while you are afk or is it set to a long duration? When my screen saver comes on--I have SETI@home--it tries to take full use of the cpu and stops eve dead even when I come back and move the mouse or w/e to make it turn off. The screen saver goes off and the clients FPS drop to around the levels you are seeing.
I have a dual monitor setup on two bfg geforce 6800 GT's set to independant mode (switch to sli for other junk) and I run three clients on my computer (amd athlon 64 4000+, 2gb ddr 400 ram in 4 512mb sticks). My issue is caused by the screen saver coming on. Most of the time I have to relog, *SOMETIMES* minimizing the client and then restoring it fixes it because it dumps most of what was in ram when you minimize it. I should also note, that running two monitors on two video cards (one attached to each card) hits the cpu pretty heavily causing quite a preformance drop compared to keeping all of the clients on one screen.
I used to minimize the client back when there was a large memory leak on the client side and that helped tremendously, so it's worth a shot. I also have seperate installs for each account, I dont copy/paste, I manually installed each account on seperate partitions.
Also, is your page file set to an apropriate (sp) size? Two gb of ram should have a minimum of a 3gb pagefile, this has been known to cause slowdowns due to heavy ram->hdd->ram traffic. If I think of anything else I'll let you know.

I had exactly the same problem on quite different hardware earlier.
I narrowed it down to FPS dropping whenever you appear near a gate (by warping or jumping in). So autopilot shows it up badly because it moves you past a lot of gates, but you can also make FPS drop by warping between two gates in the same system. It was very reproducable at the time, FPS would stay high until I reached a gate, then it would drop noticably and stay dropped.. I could sit there for 15 mins at a constant FPS .. and then warp to another gate and see another immediate drop. So it doesn't seem to be heat related or similar. The drop in FPS is permanent until you restart the client, jumping or docking does not help it. This happened on two independent client installs on the same machine.
I bug reported this and there was a thread I posted to which looked like the same issue: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=384597
I got contacted by a BH about the bugreport asking for a logserver trace. When I went to reproduce it, the problem had fixed itself, despite the fact I hadn't changed anything on the system! I've not managed to reliably reproduce it again though I think it is still intermittently happening.
My suspicions point towards something about the geometry around gates. One thing that I meant to investigate is whether it was something to do with billboards; I am wondering if it is a problem where the bounty image isn't correctly downloaded due to connectivity problems, or something similar. That would explain why it's intermittent and limited to only a few people.
If you can reproduce it readily I'd suggest submitting a bug report with logserver traces, attn BH Runner.

Look into your windows event viewer to see if any warnings appear in association with the problem. If that fails and you've exhausted your options you need to start swapping out system components to isolate the component causing the problem.

I had a similar problem. Turned out my bios chipset drivers were out of date, and even though the driver details didn't mention any fix to the graphics chipset drivers, it turned out that there WAS an update in there. I haven't had any troubles since. I use an ASUS A8N32SLI and dual nvidia 7600GS's. Not the same as what you have, but similar enough that it might be worth looking at. ---

You may also want to try and reduce the resolution you're playing in and turning off all AA and Aniso filtering as well.
Also, in your prefs.ini try adding advancedDevice=1 . In game hit ESC and the Graphics tab. Change Present Interval to Interval Immediate and Multisample Type to Disable.

(in EVE) Depht bufferset to W Multi Sample Type: Level of full-scene multi sample available Multisample Quality 0 Present Interval, Interval Immediate (In Taskmanager) Affinity to CPU 0 Set exefile.exe to priority Above Normal.
Problem is the *** nvidia drivers (nView or nForce). Waiting for a ATI dx10 card.

restart your computer and run msconfig and choose selective startup....
disable anything that you don't need to have running in the backround (ie, messenger, outlook, anything like that)...
Next check ur eve settings and turn some of the graphics down if you havn't already...
Last thing i could think of that you would need to check is to see if your video card has an updated driver available. I do this stuff all day long so let me know if that works. It shouldn't be anything you wuold need to run an HDR on and i think the things i listed above should take of the issue.

People would kill for 2 bil let alone talk
You've said it runs fine when there are no session changes. Now I might be wrong but I doubt your hardware specs change between jumps. Also, drop in framerate doesn't neccessary point to video rendering problems. If there are no new frames to be drawn ...
Those GPU temperatures are a bit on the hot side for electronics' health although I don't think they're the culprit. Session change (probably) causes your graphics subsystem to clog up. Could also be some other part which then affects overall performance and gets manifested in FPS dive. Network would be my next target. It's obviously combination of particular video/network card on particular mobo that client or DX handles poorly. You could of course just switch stuff around until you get as many working combinations as possible and fill out the gaps with new hardware. Will most likely solve the problem without finding true cause.
I think Runner holds your money atm, log what's happening while jumping. Find a quiet route so you get as little noise as possible and save workspace just prior to each jump. Other suggestions don't matter, they will improve performance of course but even if you get your situation to where it drops from 80 fps to 12 instead of 60 to 6 you're far from solving the problem.

Is it an issue that a simple reboot of the client cures such as for memory leakage?
Also, try an outdated version of your graphics drivers for a possible solution.
