Due to a very positive community response, we are rapidly approaching the maximum number of tickets we may sell for the Fanfest due to limitations imposed by the size of the venue. That's right, the Fanfest is in danger of being sold out.
If you have booked your travel arrangements but not purchased your Fanfest ticket, it is in your best interest do to so immediately. There are no gaurantees that tickets will be available at the door and once we have sold out, that's it. We can't make any exceptions.
For more information, please visit the Fanfest information page.

I'd go if there was another reason to travel to Iceland. Going from California just for a fanfest (even if its an awesome 3 days long) just doesn't do it for me. You ought to have a Euro fest and a North America fest, maybe around New York or a province along the US/Canada border.

I would have packed you up in one of my bags, but I'm already in Iceland and Customs sort of frowns on human smuggling.
I know of a player gathering in the very early planning stages tentatively planned for spring of '07 in Florida that looks like it will be big.
As for 'selling out being a bad thing', yes and no. It is great that we are on the verge of selling out, but a bummer for the players who couldn't make earlier arrangements to attend.

Adding some answers to questions that didn't get answered in the old thread.
Originally by: Therem Harth I don't know if it's by design or not, but fanfest packages are no longer on Icelandair website(s), the "form to contact Icelandair travel agents" has been assuring me that "personnel has been notified" about Error 500 it generates on submit, for about a month now, and it is not possible to reach Icelandair reservation phone in Sweden from abroad, at least if you want anything else except listening to Swedish-only recorded announcements :( email to Icelandair gets replied with a week's delay saying "please call reservation agents".
Can some kind soul (kieron? Wrangler?) clarify some simple things here maybe?
- is Icelandair package deal from Stockholm still on? - are the Loftleindir (sp?) and Nordica full up or there are still rooms? - what are the alternative suggested hotels/whatever accomodation, if any, if my friends and I have to go book everything separately and not via Icelandair?
Many thanks in advance
The Fan Fest package from Sweden was sold out, but is back again. Though you will be staying at Loftleidir and not Nordica. As kierons top post says, it is nearly sold out so you better hurry. You can find the packages on this page.
Originally by: ObiDoom Kenobi Do you guys have any indication of attendence yet?

You shall as soon you have bought the ticket receive a email holding your order number and confirmation number, plus number of tickets you have ordered etc. With me it took less then 5 minutes to get the email. If you paid by Visa etc. you should wait an hour or two, and while you are waiting, check your spam filter etc. just in case.
You should reveive it tho. if not, I guess you will have to contact [email protected] (I think...)

If we're talking about the Fan Fest package (Flight and hotel) you would have to contact Icelandair customer support, our GMs can't help you with that stuff. If you're talking about the Fan Fest access pass, you need to contact [email protected].

The FanFest is organized a lot by the marketing department at CCP. And Kierons job is to keep in touch with the players. That includes the other leaders of CCP too, to a certain degree. So I hardly think it hurts CCP game developement that much... Also, the fanfest is in Cooperation with like Hotel Nordica and Icelandair. So a lot of the resources thats involved in the arrangement is out-of-house.
Yes, there are some devs who ofcource is going to attend the party Thursday, Friday and saturday. And I am sure you know that most of the party is on a weekend.
CCP are bringing the players together. We will meet and have fun. It will involve some alchohole, but we will also learn more about whats coming up in the game, compete with eachother in the fanfest tournament.
We can also ask the devs questions and bring ideas of what we want in the game face-to-face. Yes, you can say that the fanfest is just as important for the continual developement as it is for us the players who are going to attend!!
IMHO the fanfest is just as important for the devs as it is for the players. Sharing toughts and stories - even over a beer - is more valuable for the game then many believe. They say that information in a war can turn the tide of it. For CCP, learning face to face what we want. And for us to have the chance to ask the questions we want is something we all benefits from. And in the end the user who sits at home.
Also, what ruined a lot of other games, like SOEs Star Wars Galaxies, is SOEs lack of interests in their playerplase and their opinions. When all the servers where protesting, yes it happend that their servers went down because of ppl gathering to protest against the coming New Game Enhancement patch (also known as NGE or CU2) SOE answered with banning players and turning the dead ear to the outcry. Answer: 50% of the playerbase left within 6 months... For the players it where a loss to leave a once great game. For SOE... well they lost money, but also reputation. EA and SOE is now widely known for their greed, making bad games, not listening to players. While succeeding game makers like CCP earn reputation by taking the playerbase not just into consideration, but also working close with them to bring the game to a greater state!! THAT is why CCP is so successfull. And the Fanfest i think can take if not all the honour for it, but at least some!
In addition to all the great people who works for CCP :)

I think the Nordica hotel is on the list, I¦m not sure though but I¦m sure you can check that out. Also at the end point there are usually enough taxis waiting to get you to your hotel from there.

The Flybus takes you to the BSI (bus) terminal where you can change to a bus which takes you to the Nordica, or you can get a cab from the terminal. There's a bus schedule, and they leave the airport in connection to arriving flights. The current schedule is only valid until Oct 29th but I guess a new schedule will be put on the page Eris linked above after that date.

For the love of god, don't take a taxi unless you're seriously rich.
I made that mistake last year - was ~ ú80.
Flybus is probably the best option, should be about ú10.

The Flybus seems to be the best solution really. The price for the bus ride is 1100 ISK. The bus will then take you to Keflavik Busterminal, which is a 50 minute ride from the airport. maybe it will even pass Nordica Hotell too. I dunno. But from The bus terminal it should be easy to take a local bus to the hotel.

Yes, sorry if I was unclear, don't take a cab from the airport, definately take the flybus. You can take a cab from the bus terminal in the city to the hotel though, or just get on the bus for the hotel.
Last I checked the Flybus was 1100 ISK.

The packages for the Netherlands are now at Fosshotel Baron. Seems like a rather big pain in the arse to travel back and forth every day between the Nordica and Baron. How far are we talking and what sort of transport is available there?

Just relax. Wrangler have promised us that there will be more then enough beer to all. And if not, I will go straight to the Source. All I have to do is ask for Wranglers or Oveurs office...

The packages for the Netherlands are now at Fosshotel Baron. Seems like a rather big pain in the arse to travel back and forth every day between the Nordica and Baron. How far are we talking and what sort of transport is available there?
Cheers,
EFS
I believe the Nordica rooms are sold out. The Fosshotel Baron is about a 30-45 minute walk from the Nordica. I'll check if there are shuttles going or if you'll have to get a cab.

The UK package is currently booking people into the Park Inn Island hotel - from what I can find that looks pretty close to the Nordica? Anybody know for sure?
p.s. Anyone else flying out from Glasgow?

There is apparently a bus station close to Hotel Baron, and the bus stops at the Nordica. The Park Inn is walking distance so very close to the Nordica.

Thought I would put this up to give people a visual sense of distance.
B-Line between the Nordica and CCP's offices is just over 2 miles. To the main drag it's about a mile and a half from the Nordica.

Guess that means I will be banned after the first day then. I have got a special trained liver ready for this fanfest, ready to hold infinite ammounts of Icelandic beer!! Unless that is, if the GMs get so drunk themselves that they are more then willing to overlook my Bree Hax0r exploit ofcource

Maybe I am being a little bit picky here, but it seems that due to the Nordica (4 star) being full, the packages have changed to other hotels like the Baron (3 star) for the same price.
Surely a 3 star hotel is cheaper than a 4 star?!

If I had to guess I'd say you were paying a premium because you're booking less in advance. Another likely explanation is that the Nordica rate was discounted because CCP is holding the convention there so convention attendees pay a reduced room fee.
Either of those is fairly standard practice.

I am arriving at 17:00 Iceland time in Reykjavik on Wednesday. What my plans are for the remains of that day I dont know yet, but I plan to have a shower and some rest before a dinner at the VOX restaurant.
I will have been up since like 6am myself, and so I dont know what kind of shape I will be in when I arrive. But a visit to the bar seems required, and some chat with you guys and gals who arrives early. Maybe an occational Dev to if they have not gone completely into hiding.
For trips outside the hotel I had a hope to see the CCP HQ on Thursday morning, but tbh. that have so many dependencies like when I get up in the morning, what the weather is, who I meet down at the hotell lobby and their plans, yes even my mood and whims I guess will set my plans for that day. But we will see.
Who else are arriving at the hotel Wednesday??

Exactly my point. It would be a perfect ice-breaker event. When you first arrive to FanFest to give in your registration there is a side table with crayons, paper and bobbypins. Total cost? Maybe $20?

I have my ticket and all that fun stuff, but unfortunately a work emergency has come up and I will not be able to make it to Fanfest.
I do not want to "scalp" tickets or anything like that, but I would either like to get a refund on the ticket (I'm sure there are lots of people wanting to buy one still) or just sell directly to someone.
I will wait to hear from Wrangler what I should do in the situation.
Thanks,
