We can but hope that eve pvp becomes close to what combat in nexus is like. Nexus had perfect space combat for games that have a eve style of control. --- Slot 10 Akemons Modified 'Noble'Zet 5000 implant +8% Armour FREE |

Edited by: Fireaero on 25/10/2006 13:29:10 This game MIGHT get made, AFAIK....
Looks so amazing though. I played and beat Nexus 1 in about a week because it was so awesome. Only problem was it lacked a skirmish mode...
I'd say Nexus sold poorly because they didn't advertise enough. I only found the game 6 months after it came out and after I said to myself "what ever happened to IG3..." And then it took me quite a while to figure out it was renamed and redesigned as Nexus...
Edit:
Oh also...The ships Were big in Nexus but you never got a good sense of it because in big battles you just had to zoom all the way out and everything was tiny.

with a little luck we might be looking at an eve that looks pretty much similar to that vid.
Might just become the only reason I would get windows vista and directx 10

Is everyone forgetting that there will be a major graphics overhaul in the relatively near future, when the Windows Vista friendly client is released? If so, we may be looking at graphics similar to this.

There are a couple parts in this trailer which could be graphically ported of eve easily and would imporve the look of the game immeassurably.
*Note these are just things I didnt notice in the listing for the new graphical updates.
1: Bump-mapped planets 2: atmospheric "fuzz" around the edges of planets 3: Hit effects(explosions or other effects of soem sort) when a weapon hits 4: Improved shield effects, particularly when hit. 5: Improved explosive effect, including multiple smaller explosions before a ship goes down.
These would all be fairly simple from a graphics and game design standpoint but would make eve look WAY better. Including thes with the upcoming graphical updates would definitely bring eve up to teh quality shown in this trailer.
Its definitely the little things like these that make or break a game's graphics.

If CCP could make the game look like that video trailer, they could essentially guarantee themselves a paying player for oh, the rest of my life :P
I think I ****ed myself looking at that trailer - I had *never* heard of Nexus up until right this very moment. I want it - but if EVE looked like that, I'd just keep playing EVE (in fact, I'd try to win the lottery so I could dedicate my life to playing EVE, screw work!).

If it's the clip I'm thinking of, it's a rendered video. That's not actual gameplay, it's one of the cinematic sequences about an 1/8th through the game.
If it's not, well, sorry about the post (I'll check it when I get home)

I agree, that final explosion of the capital ship was sweet.
I think each ship should get its own custom explosion. Each explosion getting cooler and cooler as the ships get larger.
Pirates would blow up freighters just to see the explosions, rather than demanding a ransom. __________________________________ Tired of the Macro Miners? Take control! Join the Anti-Macro Coalition |

Those kinds of graphics would be an amazing addition to the game. Ideally, EVE should be a mmo port of Nexus.

No, it not a clip from 'Nexus: The Jupiter Incident', but a real time tech demo from its abandoned sequel.
Its Nexus 2! Sadly canned for who knows what reason

I guess this is really nice, and you have my grattitude to do so... but wondering what the tech specs would be for your hardware... i guess it will take massive rendering power on your pc... which still is either expensive and not everybody will have that in their PC... somehow it has always been a slight problem for game-makers to also hit the masses and make a very nice graphical game... :-)

Smart people: "Make more and deeper content" Dumb people: "Make better graphics"
Graphics are absolutely secondary in the long run. In eve you battle icons and locking clamps 90% of the time. So what.
I'd rather play a good browser game with stunning content that play a 100% realistic looking stupid shooter (f.ex). -- This game is still in beta stage |

actually if you compare the graphical demands of EVE and nexus1 (not trailer) eve takes far more power and nexus 1 looks far better imo!
and no thats not prerendered, all the ship / camera angles and movements are prescripted but the entire thing is realtime rendered using nexus 2 engine :)

Edited by: Clytamar on 26/10/2006 11:47:18 Edited by: Clytamar on 26/10/2006 11:46:38[ Why are the gasclouds so ubiqutious? Every single system has a scene filled with these gasclouds pretty much in every direction
While EVE is not a scifi simulator, and will never be, I'd very much prefer more real looking space with sharp shadows, cities on fire on the dark side of moons and planets, stars, constellations and galaxies staring from inifinity and beyond, filling up the blackness and the minigalaxy of EVE wrapping the scenery with the blinding glow of thousands of closely clustered stars.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see something like this. Some variation, other than the color of the cloud would be nice. Where are the stars?
Shameless plug: Small scale alien invasions would be nice too. Something with far more advanced technology and firepower :)

have been playing Nexus some and I must say that some of the options like directed fire on turrets and enginges is something I wouldnt mind seeing in Eve. Whole new level to battles.

Yeah, I played nexus 1 as well. I thought it had many nice (read EVE worthy) features. I think it just wasn't in depth enough. We'ed get all these characters... most of whom are used as red shirts and we never know anything about them.

tbh, I doubt it'll be anywhere near as good at that.
Oh, and that isnt a pre-rendered movie. I have a friend of mine, Jason that worked on the game's tech presentation. They are using:

That looks pretty and all, but I would not play eve if it just looked pretty but played bad. I have much more fun in Eve becasue of the mechanics of the universe and all the many things we can do. Just look at how people are complaining about the pretty map in Eve already.

Now that's EXACTLY how a space game should look like, not these copy-recolor-paste backgrounds we have, flat-textured planets or moons, nor "puffs" when a ship blows up. -----------------------------------------------

That large ship looked like a proper capital ship. If they bring in the ability to target and destroy sub systems on a ship as mentioned in ideas forum iirc we could get attacks like that in eve. That would be really cool capital ships in this game are a bit wet atm imo. As far as gfx goes I've never been that bothered by gfx gameplay is king!!!

Because it is.
I'd put money on the fact it's a cinematic demo and not in-game footage. Companies usually put their best work into trailers to entice people to buy the games, just look at Blizzard Entertainment.

*goes to look for where he can find a copy of this "Nexus" game* edit: Gee, found it already. Google ftw: Linkage for anyone else who's interested. Seems they did the same thing Volition did with Freespace 2, made it freeware. <3~~!
