Pretty!
Rather like the level of detail for the capital ship destruction; not too mention, automatic defenses are so coool
One of these days... one can hope. I love the game we have now anyways.

Nexus' engine was a work of genius. Never had graphical lag, even in the huge battles on my old pc build circa 2001 -sig- |

Looks so amazing though. I played and beat Nexus 1 in about a week because it was so awesome. Only problem was it lacked a skirmish mode...
I'd say Nexus sold poorly because they didn't advertise enough. I only found the game 6 months after it came out and after I said to myself "what ever happened to IG3..." And then it took me quite a while to figure out it was renamed and redesigned as Nexus...
Edit:
Oh also...The ships Were big in Nexus but you never got a good sense of it because in big battles you just had to zoom all the way out and everything was tiny.
agreed. i hadn't heard a thing about it untill a mate bought it, and even then, it was always tucked away in a corner of the games stores. sadly, it was released at a time when i had no money, and thus a really crappy PC.
were it to be released now, i've got a decent games rig, so i'd be more than happy to buy it and play (of course, i don't have TIME to play any other games right now, since i'm rather busy and spending far too much time on EVE :P ) ========================================== Iy |

Because it is.
I'd put money on the fact it's a cinematic demo and not in-game footage. Companies usually put their best work into trailers to entice people to buy the games, just look at Blizzard Entertainment.
You're wrong.
You know why you're wrong? Because people dont waste money on crappy cinematics like that, if that was a cinematic it's a peice of crap. Cinematics, okay ones even are exteremely good. Or to quote you:
"Companies usually put their best work into trailers to entice people to buy the games, just look at Blizzard Entertainment."
Gaming companies dont waste money on shoddy (by a CG artist's standards - I am one) work like that. ------------ Peregrinus Amarria

I'd like to see something like Freespace 2. That was also a very nice spaceshooter. Today I think X3 is probably one of the better looking spaceshooters though. What I would like the most is if they could make an updated version of ELITE!!! with new graphics cause it's gameplay still rocks.

Edited by: Raven DeBlade on 07/11/2006 16:18:20 Nexus combat is awsome, i replayed it several times due to great combat and use of tactics. This is how EVE combat should be, and then it would RULE the universe of any game =)

Wow that looks great. The explosions are really dramatic too.
Also, I don't think it's prerendered. Just look at the Unreal3 engine, very similar technology. Shaders make a huge difference.

Does look quite nice, although some of those effects you just cant have in an mmorpg, imagine trying to have a fleet battle if the server has to pass information on to every client that 1 weapon round has hit 1 particular portion of a ship and needs specific debree/explosion effect/shield effect on that area. I think the static stuff could be done easy enough locally like how the planets look, but anything dynamic would cause huge problems |

Absolutely no need of this. Who cares about situation when some person do see explosion 10 meters left from actual hit point? Eye candy can be done completely on client side without worrying about of picture identity with other player's screen.
Remember: EvE is not a real-life simulator like used to train aircraft pilots "Don't matter how this done, if only it looks well"

I bought this game a while after it came out, matter of fact the only reason I bought it was because it looked spectacular. IMO it is the best looking space game I have ever seen. Nexus has one major flaw to me, in that is it completely 100% linear any deviation (to my knowledge) results in game over, plus its not very long.
If I remember correctly, there are two galaxies that you are able to be in, but you cannot even explore, but if they actually made a Nexus 2 I'd probably buy it as long as it was either as good as or better than the first. I really need a signature. |

The people who work on the graphics on the game are not the same people who program the gameplay. Working on the graphics is not going to hurt Eve's gameplay.
I loved the ripple effect of the engines. I personally would like to see better engine effects in Eve.

hahaha, I personally think it is very funny that a couple of people said the ships in the trailers look funny. Oh, the irony.
Wouldn't it be cool if a big ship is piloted by multiple people? I think I remember a MUD like that way back.
What if... Player x trained gunnery skills, and controls 2 turrets on the captial ship trying to destroy enemy shield banks; Player y trained fighters and was launched from the hangar to do bombing runs; player z trained electronic warfare and is trying to adjust jamming frequencies and attempting to upload virus to enemy ship; Player W is a marine, and is waiting anxiously in a boarding pod along with his buddy player V, checking their ammo and grenades, ready to be launched at any minutes at the direction of captain Q, penetrating enemy ship armor and start wrecking havoc and capturing enemy ship.
