Never?
They seem to work better as mysterious strangers used only rarely by the event team/gms etc. Would the mystique be lost if they got into the hands of the players, would they become Eve's Jedi?
Better left alone.

a day before the eve servers are shutdown (I hope that day never arrives) the dev team will unleash the Jove armada onto the universe and OMGPWNZOR everyone! As the dust will settle, all will cry, and the dev's will say, "Hey, at least the Jove's showed up." :)

I have to completely agree. Alpha classes do not work.

They have a fun enough time balancing four races. Imagine throwing in a fifth? :)

didnt we have this conversation not 3 days ago?
anyways, originally all dev characters were jove, and only devs can use jove ships...
read the backstory anyway, jove are way more advanced than the other races

As an interesting note, the character screen doesn't show them listed, but there IS a page for them if you manually type it into your address bar: http://www.eve-online.com/races/jove.asp

One could of course just use the link called "Jove" in the sidebar

I think that they should do this one day - Invade us with Jove ships and see how well we do... We do have a Titan afterall.
The next day, they role back the server to 2 days beforehand.
Good fun for all.

Jove should remain an NPC faction played by devs or other CCP employess but there is no reason why they cant interact with real players via events, trade technology and intel with them and even take sides in certain cases.
Their mysteriousness could make for some interesting gameplay if they are handled correctly...

Jove is the equilivalent of the Jedi in Star Wars Galaxies for Eve. Having them would seriously disrupt the balance in the game. People would be saying Jove is uber and should do more damage because they are so advance, while others would say they disrupt the balance in the game.
I hope they never to implement them. --------------------------------------------- Forum Wars!...Because the battlefeild is laggy. |

I sorta think they should never be implemented, but if they did, they should make it so you need an outragous amount of skill points to become one. Once you do become one you are reverted to a noob. So someone like Ginger Magician could become a Jove, but it would mean losing the GM character as it is and starting over.

Would be nice if they left a Jove BS lying around in a deep safe in the new regions for some lucky scanner to find. Don't make it an Uber killing machine, but a nice toy to have like the pleasure yacht.

No, Jedis in Eve are small, square and blue.
As far as Jovians are concerned, since jovians are not really born, but more like heavily altered and adapted clones there might be a possiblity to become a jovian for other people.

Edited by: Artthana on 27/10/2006 20:10:00 Jovian should NEVER be a playable race. Would throw any realistic hope of balance out the window.
They should be used as.. -plot devices (wars, maybe a new region is too close to Jove space, so every once in a while a Jove patrol flies through WTFBBQINSTAPOP anyone too close orą. -Mission agents ū give mission against their enemies ū characters from the Theodicy very good backstory.

You could make they a playable race while balancing them well. An exemple would be that a part of renegade jovians decided to break from their empire and begin seeking a new future elsewhere. Being outcasts they had a limited acess to jovian technology (dus crappier ships) and were forced to develope new technology for them selves. (this would mean the ships would be as strong as the other 4 races).
Stuff like that could work.

I hope never, certainly not as a standard option. Though it might be an interesting prospect if Genetic Engineering, coupled with Boosters, advanced implants...etc started to slowly morph everyone in that direction so that as we approached Tech 5 the "empires" would be on a par - Tech 5 either being a joint venture of all five races (the Jove currently sitting at Tech 4 perhaps?) or the Empire Races finally outmatching the hidebound Jove.
As to balance it shouldn't be that hard - let's say that a Jove (not Polaris, that's different) frigate is equal in power to any of the other race's cruisers - you simply make it equivalent in cost, training...etc. They use the same weapons systems as everyone else after all. If the Jove Battlecruiser is equivalent to the Macherial you simply make the Jove Battlecruiser skill rank 16 (IIRC) so that it takes the same amount of time to train as the Macherial, the two are balanced.
