Fantastic news for Alliances!
After having temporarily put alliance logo submissions on halt in 2014, we now gladly announce that alliances can submit their logos again to CCP so that the logos can be added to EVE Online.
Approved logos will receive a slight modification and a small CONCORD logo of approval before they are put in game. Please note that also existing alliance logos needs to be resubmitted again.
For all the details (size and format of the logo, submission process etc.) please check CCP Falcon's latest dev blog Alliance Logos & You - Submissions Re-Opened!

Is there any chance you'll ever allow user-created corporation logos to be submitted alongside Alliances, rather than how we now have to rely on stock template images which neither are representative of our uniqueness nor exclusive to our corporation? In the real world, Corporation logos are often iconic and immediately speak that company's name - think Apple or Google as examples, neither of which would be near as iconic if you had hundreds of corporations using those logos. Eve over the years has had a gradual shift away from corporation focus with more emphasis placed on Alliances yet most corporations outlast most alliances. Bringing the focus back on to corporations could only be a good thing.
11 years and counting. Eve Defence Force is recruiting.

The sheer number of corporations that are created means that this isn't really something that's feasible in terms of dedicating manpower to it.
This is why we also have restrictions on member count and size of an alliance with regards to eligibility for logo submission

The whole "Futureistic" thing is silly.
Stomping all over unique IP's that make EvE
Also, sooo over the moon with that fact i paid 1 Bill to create an alliance in December, with the intention of holding onto it, giving it an identity before recruiting now has a road full of bumps and hurdles, not to mention i dont believe the logo will be accepted now.
What your saying is that small groups are no longer allowed identities? Just revert some of the changes and do the things we want and pay you for. |

I'm not a lawyer, and this was the compromise that our legal counsel came up with.
If you have an issue with this, feel free to contact our legal department and they'll be able to advise you further.

Small groups can build an identity with no issue just under a corporation name and logo. This has happened countless times throughout the history of EVE.
When an alliance reaches the appropriate size, it can submit a logo for approval.

Is interpretation of written guidelines also the mother of all mistakes? I'm having trouble parsing this as anything other than "you can't actually predict what we'll do based on our written, stated rules/guidelines". Should we, then, submit a ton of logos which seem in clear violation of the written guidelines, because "hey, you never know" - throwing **** at the wall and seeing what sticks, adding lots of work for CCP to sort through? Or does this simply mean that established logos can get "grandfathered in" when the same courtesy wouldn't be extended to the same logo submitted by a new alliance? |

I think that CCP would be better served by reviewing Alliance logos for technical and legal issues only.
In my opinion, Eve is strongest and most appealing when players set the tone for the game. CCP has lately been on a role in letting the sandbox elements of the game come to the fore and I think they should follow that trend in their logo guidelines.
Let the part about "cartoony" elements and "no bright colors" be enforced as little as possible. If players don't like cartoons they can vote with their feet and join alliances with futuristic dimly colored logos. CCP can save itself the trouble of trying to review logos for style.
That being said, if the policy is just written like that to give them a reason to crush things like comic sans, all is well. |

250 people is a lot, and some very well known alliances who have logos have fewer than that. Any consideration given to allowing alliances that currently have logos to submit a new one regardless of their current size?
Also, I assume the 250 person count doesn't care about subscription status. What is to stop one from making an alt corp full of trial accounts and using that to get alliances over the 250 person limit? What happens if an alliance drops under 250 people after their logo is approved?

Six months is a long time to wait, especially for established groups who reform after an unfortunate in-game event (sup Kenzoku).
Why not set the restriction at 6 months OR 250+ members? |

Any chance we could get a definite yes or no regarding whether or not our logo will be accepted? It's been around for years, we aren't planning on changing it. Hints are all fine and dandy but here you're implying we'll be fine even though our logo goes against the new guidelines. So will it be OK because of its history, or will it not because of the new rules? |

Unfortunately, this change also eliminates some of the more iconic alliance logos in the game because of the alliance size limitation and prevents iconic alliances from ever having logos for the same reason. Examples: Rote Kapelle, Psychotic Tendencies, tourney winner Verge of Collapse, and tourney favorite Outbreak. will all lose their logos. Perennial tournament favorites Hydra Reloaded and The Camel Empire won't be eligible for logos at all.
I would kind of be interested in a specific statement about the LAWN logo, though. LAWN's logo p.much breaks every single rule that Falcon specified, from its cute font to its bright colors to its cartoony nature to its recognizable and anachronistic lawn gnome. Assuming it was resubmitted in its current state but following the new technical requirements, would it be accepted? And would it be accepted only because it's an existing alliance?

To the extent that submission guidelines draw bounds related to art style, I would suggest starting by submitting the one logo you'd like to have and seeing how it goes.
Ultimately, the logo will be reviewed by one of our art directors and it'll be their taste and judgment that determines the outcome. This is the reason that art-related guidelines are not stated in strict, bright-line language.
Technical requirements (such as format, image size, non-premultiplication) should be treated as absolute, however.
I can't speak to how legal and content limitations will be evaluated.

Can we please at least have the ability to create alliance logos using the in game tools the same way we do with corp logos? I get that CCP doesn't have the staff to approve a logo for every vanity alliance in the game and the minimum sizes aren't going away, but it'd be nice if we could get rid of the five pointed star at least. |

So an aritst who is bias toward certain groups ingame can lean heavily toward following rules strictly for some and others not so, based on his preferences? |

What if you restricted custom logos to Corporations of a certain size and age? If a corporation has lasted for, say, 8 years and have a large number of players, wouldn't it be nice to have them get a little extra? |
