I'm not saying people who use macros to mine are good or bad but if this were real life, wouldnt ships already have the capability to perform simple tasks like macros?
I know it goes against the t&c to use any third party software to control the game but it does seem a bit wierd that ships have the technology to travel at warp speed, cloak etc, but not able to repeat a simple automated task like mining.

CCP would probably have a roleplaying excuse related to pods and psionics.
It would probably be similar to the backstory in Freelancer--that a neural interface was required to run most of the equipment, so it couldn't be effectively automated.

Moon mining POSes certainly mine without a pod pilots intervention though - maybe they're manned by a small staff, or does the OP have a point?
Or is it just such a big structure that it has enough AI to spread around? Food for thought.

Topic should be changed to "Eve is a game"
-- And really thats the point. If everything is 'real' and all is automated, what are you playing?

POSs have a massive CPU and powergrid and run massive industrial moon miners.
They're not using modules.

Asteroid mining operations probablly would be more drone oriented. You'd have one foreman come in, set up some rules that he wanted the drones to follow regarding asteroid type and concentrations and then have them go out and get the minerals while he ran security, possibly among several operations, or just did hauling back from the asteroid site and a station.
Those stupid security canisters sure as hell wouldn't be there though. People would jack those things like it was nobody's business.
I don't think Macroing is right, but I don't think the mining game element does anything to discourage macroing. -------------------------------------------------------- Working towards my own personal Dreadnought, one ISK at a time. |

Regardless if EVE were real or not, using drones or macros would just end up increasing inflation. More people making money = higher prices for products being bought.

Of course, if EVE were real, we'd have asteroid belts with enough resources to take literally thousands of years to drill through...and they wouldn't grow back.

It would be nice if you could at least chain some commands together. Helps the ol' carpal tunnel.
Stuff like if you could make a button that would lock target, set orbit and start mining. Not a bit deal, just a nice feature that is found in most MMORPGs

- 1% of the population would control 99% of the total wealth. - You would disappear and be banned from existence if you bought things on eBay. - Everyone in the world would take a 1 hour nap, every day. - Some mornings, the sun won't rise on time. Occasionally, on some days, the sun would fail to appear for several hours. - You'd get approached by a bunch of teens in the supermarket parking lot telling you to either pay them ransom or leave your groceries and walk away. After you pay the ransom, they shoot you anyway. - People aren't afraid of death. Dying just means waking up in a local hospital again. Though occasionally people get distraught over no longer knowing how to drive their car, or losing their D cups. - At large venues such as sports games or concerts, shortly after the event begins, time will stand still. 20 minutes later, everyone would inexplicably find themselves at the entrance to the venue. ___

Actually, the distribution of wealth in EVE is a lot like real life. Its not as extreme as you describe it, but in real life, 1% of the population does control 50%+ of the wealth, which is about true for EVE.
In any capitalist economic system, this is generally how it ends up, I would think.

The difference is that in EVE its more obvious. But in real life, large corporations own the vast majority of the world... and the same is true in EVE. The vast majority of the T2 BPOs and the like are owned by large T2 production corps like NAG, BIG, or T2HL.

If Eve was real then I would be able to destroy your battleship by slamming an interceptor into it at 5km a second destroying both our ships.
Now personally I think this would hilarious especially against faction BS like a Rattlesnake. But it doesn't mean it would be good gameplay. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If EVE was real... then I'd actually be a woman (along with quite a few others!) and have to re-think a lot of things about my life. Of course, the fact that I'd be wealthy enough to buy a planet and the best therapists bodes well for my altered mental state. Oh, and Sel is smoking hot, so that helps a bit too.

If Eve was real, I would be one of Lisento customers .
Now the real thing, if EVE was real, money would be way harder to make.
Think about it, EVEn a new player can make more money in a few hours than his ships is worthy. In real life things do not work like this, you need to spend longer (way longer than in EVE) time to make the money you do in a few hours of gameplay.
By the way, can I have your stuff?
What?
Wrong topic?
