I've been thinking about the point of killboards for a while and I hav ecome to some conclusions..
1) Never Trust any info on them, killmails can be faked
2) Never trust any info on them, losses are hardly posted
3) People like to killmail *****, I.e. dont work as a team (always leading to a question, so who is going to scout? ....deadly silence...scouts rarely get on killmails)
The only whay Killboards would work would to have a centralised Killboard, where killmails are automatically sent there from ingame.
So what do you think? ------ My corp is looking to join a 0.0 Alliance!!

and while we are at it.. what's the point of keeping score in basketball or soccer? players should just enjoy the game and not worry about who scores more points!

Well sinc eyou can not prove the accuracy of a killmail, killboards can be fiction.
But...reputation is key and you guys are well known. So I guess employers fully entrusdt your board ------ My corp is looking to join a 0.0 Alliance!!

If you're frequently defending your territory against the same hostiles, killboards provide you meaningful intel about the targets they pursue, the ships they fly, and the times they fly them.

You miss the point.
Basketball/Soccer etc.. all have an "end", therefor you need to know who "wins".
Eve has no "end".

This is true, suppose "kkillboard" term is wrong for this, maybe "Intel Board" ------ My corp is looking to join a 0.0 Alliance!!

=> you post you'r loose to gather intel about their weapon => you post you'r kill to gather intel about their weapon => You don't post faked Kill to distrub the intel gather
or maybe it's an e-peen mesurement :p

Everyone has different reasons. I have my own private killboard in which I keep track of my kills and deaths, just to track how I'm faring in the PVP area of things So far so good, mostly

The point of them is to keep accurate records of whats been done, usually to remind the stoner pirates what they forgot 2 hours before.
As with the FZN killboard, its all credited to the total pilots anyway. And as said on our site, if you dispute any of the facts they are happy to discuss it
I could not understand people who would fake a kill report, no-one else really cares so you are just fooling yourselves really.

Since its all just data that collected out of game it can be forged and/or manipulated rather easily. I see most of the reason behind them to have a way to post "HEY look what I did!!" or " Man I am UBER!!".
It usually involves the PVP, PKing, PPKing crowds only. Its kinda like HALO where the winner is the guy with the most kills.
for the most part its to stoke the image ;)

and why??
Because then eve will become counter strike in space and well have people all over the place going "oomfg lollerskates rtofl ur the n00b wit ur 4.5 ratio i r have a 10.5 and r then mor el33wt, HARRHARR PEW PEW n00b ROFL SKATES".
So no thanks, at least now all killboards are fairly spread so there is no global ranking charts that people can use to stroke their ego. -----

Edited by: Entarel Helfir on 02/11/2006 13:14:45 Killboards are an intelligence tool.
They give me information on the types of ships a person usually flies and the fitting they use, and where they hang around often.
They tell me in which parts of space corps and alliances operate, who their covops/dictor/battleship/capital ship pilots are, who I have to look out for.
They help judging the efficiency of current operations and planing of new ones.
Killpoints on boards are an e-peen waving tool and are absolutely unnecessary.
And concerning manipulating data : That's why our board is private, and will stay that way.
Therefore, whoever wishes for peace, let him prepare for war. |

The point is to make people feel like they are good at Eve. The problem is that the killboard doesnt show that. :)

If you want to know who your corp killed check your killboard.
If you want to know who got killed check your enemies killboard.
There will always be tards who dont post their deathmails.
As for a central board I think this would be a good thing provided that you stats are visible to only you or your corp. A global public kilboards will indeed give rise to more imatture monkies who wave their epeen at you. But it still doesent matter, I can think of several kills just off the top of my head that I didnt get on the mail for due to being the scout, and one for sure that I was in on but didnt show up due to the mail being truncated...and that was a Thanatos!

Ah..good idea, a cetralised killboard but not public would be great. Meaning you can check on your own corp, and you can guarentee the kills ar enot faked if its all done by CCP. ------ My corp is looking to join a 0.0 Alliance!!
