Okay, first of all, episode 1 is here:
LISTEN TO THIS
I decided to try to make a podcast about solo and small gang pvp, and Kovorix was nice enough to jump on board. The hope is to create a cool discussion with the purpose of helping guide upcoming pvpers towards a more enjoyable play experience. The result will be pretty nerdy, we aren't necessarily trying to be funny or dramatic, but we want to make up for that with good content.
I'm totally new to podcasting so for now there won't be an RSS feed or itunes hosting or professional editing, but I don't think that will be a big issue.
Please give it a shot and drop us feedback here on eveo.
And don't worry this isn't replacing videos =)
oh and PS - please someone come up with a good name for us, we really can't figure that one out |

@Laktos - I really your idea. I agree that morale is one of the most challenging parts of being a small scale pvper. I'm gonna see if I can think of enough content to make this the focus of the next episode. Thanks for the idea =)
@Fellblade - I guess I'm open to that, but I don't know what would be involved in getting it setup and it sounds annoying to spend time working on that when I could be working on more content. Also, while visibility is good, it seems like word of mouth is carrying us pretty well so far =) |

Jaigar thanks for that. I've never realized that and it makes a lot of things fit for me that seemed a bit weird.
I still stand by the fact that alpha is a generally misunderstood and overrated idea, especially at a really small scale. But that goes a long way to clarify why its so strong at a larger scale.
Maybe sometime I will get the chance to include this graph/explanation in the podcast, I think a lot of people could benefit from understanding it. |

Yeah most of the stuff that goes with using long range fleets makes sense to me, it was just that critical idea that your dps can change over multiple cycles because of the first volley being "free". I had always imagined the dps working the way it would if the volley came at the end of the cycle.
I do think talking about optimal and falloff would be good, we might do it this week actually, it was on my list of maybes. |

Hayley I like that question a lot. I'm not sure if its something that can be pinned down in a very neat way, but I really like the idea of giving some kind of process by which a newer player can maybe make a conclusion about the prospect of engaging a certain group over another. Even if the exact outcome was unknown (which it usually is), doing some work towards establishing what groups might be good to engage and which might not would probably be useful for a lot of folks.
I'll keep it in mind and see if we can work it in somehow, even if just to outline how the decision was made about engaging or not engaging in the first section of the podcast where we talk about a particular fight.

We probably should have had a bit more structure going into this episode, but hopefully you guys like hearing from one of the best small scale pvpers the game has ever seen. |

Whats funny is that I actually did edit quite a bit of it out =)... Left in the parts that seemed entertaining and took out the horrible awkward ones, haha.
It is interesting comparing this approach to the normal format, though. I wonder if we would tend to get more entertaining shows this way and maybe more informative ones the other way.
Glad you guys liked having garmon on generally. We will look to do more of this in the future. If anyone has opinions about particular people they would like to hear from feel free to let me know. Ideas so far include some other prominent solo'ers like Prometheus, Fon Ravedhort(sp?), and it might also be possible to get some ccp people on. I wonder if CCP Tallest would consider talking to us about balance at some point =P
All said, I want to maintain the original purpose of the show which is to make small scale pvp more accessible and interesting, keep up the feedback and we'll see you guys in 2 weeks! |

If you listened to episode 6, you heard me mention a possible change to the format for next show, and what you have said is basically the exact change. Someone suggested this to me via eve mail and I like it a lot. I don't feel like we have room to add an entire section so I think for a few shows we will maybe try this instead of the mod section we've been doing in the middle and see how people like it.

While I don't love where links are at, I do think what you say here is very important. People talk about links like its some risk free solution to pvp. In reality it takes a lot of investment. The alt takes a lot of time or quite a bit of isk (5-10b?) to aquire, and then you are facing 500-800mil in losses every time you mess up and lose one. I don't think cost is ever a great metric to use for talking about balance, but it does play a part. |

Yeah about the hurricane fastest BC thing: you are all right. It certainly isnt the fastest battlecruiser, but when I said it I guess I wasn't even thinking of tier3 bcs as bcs. They are just so different that I think my brain puts them in a different category altogether.

This is something I've actually always wondered about. I have a feeling that on the whole it doesn't end up having a huge effect. Sometimes I do go into a system and the pirate on the gate wants to dock up and chat with me instead of fight. But on the other hand, sometimes people engage because they know that what they see is what they get, and I think on some level its almost like being part of a good cause. If they win, good for them, if I win, maybe it gets into a video which is good for everyone! But yeah overall I'm still not really sure.

I agree with you, the issue is really just time/effort. Each episode already takes about 4 hours altogether to make and its just hard to think about adding more time to that when I could be getting more footage for youtube, trying to keep my marriage intact, or sleeping. I'll keep it in mind though and maybe somewhere along the way I'll do it.

I completely agree with you. I'm trying so hard to shut up and let others talk and its actually so hard for me for some reason, I think I just get excited easily by having thoughts. Will keep trying to improve! Before every episode I'm also trying to encourage kovorix to be more pushy because him being quiet/shy combined with me being loud is bad. We will balance it better eventually =) |

Hey guys sorry for the late update. We thought we had something lined up to compensate for me being busy with the tournament but it didn't come together.
Best case scenario is me and Kovorix get a normal episode recorded early this week, which is possible. Worst case scenario is we skip this week and get something done asap to release next weekend or the following weekend.
Very sorry, hopefully the tournament makes up for it some. Also, following the tournament today I live streamed a roam which ended up being amazing and its a full 2 hours with live commentary. That should be up on my youtube channel by the end of today.

New episode for you - we ended up cutting it a tad short because kovorix internet was freaking out, but I think theres some cool stuff.

I agree with you here. Its the one thing I find myself really disagreeing with Raivi about. The entire mechanic needs an overhaul so that after its changed its actually fun. I think CCP will definitely get around to nerfing it, which is better than nothing, but it would be nice if ewar in general could be a fun part of the game.
To the rest - Thanks a lot for the support, I hope we get back for more episodes also =)
And also, we aren't slowing down because of the pvp climate, I think me and Kovorix both think the solo and small gang climate is more healthy now than it has been for a lot of Eve's history (with the small exception of ASBs atm). We are just busy in the real world. |

Sorry it is a bit low. There was a lot of noise on the recording this time for some reason. I was able to reduce most of it but then the sound was a bit lower than usual. Hope its not too much trouble. Unfortunately I'm not a great sound tech.
