A few of my corp mates have been having some variation of this issue, as well as myself. For me I log in and the button grays out, as if it has something to download but nothing ever downloads, and my launcher/client seem to be current. I'm using the .exe to work around for it, but I would like to ask CCP please fix this issue, as we lost some people to it.

I started having that issue a little while ago. Now the exe doesn't work and the launcher totally freezes and I can't even enter login or password.
Seems I need to reinstall, but If I do, what files do I need to back up to keep my in game settings? |

I am having the same dang problem.
I cannot get my launcher to show anything but a grayed out button.
I have submitted numerous tickets, and this has been going on for a couple weeks now.
I am unable to log into the client, anything.
First I had problems with downloading the client, then I had problems with e-mail verification, now this...
CCP needs to get their crap together on the technical side of the house.

Frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a response from CCP on this issue.
No information, no explanation, no work-around, nothing.
So many problems with the connectivity of the launcher and eve download servers, I can't even sort out what is going on here.
I have had no response to my tickets that I have submitted either.
They sure took my damn money to re-start my accounts though.
They sure-as-hell made sure THAT part of this thing is working.

Same problem when i use my dail up internet or 3G internet ( Australian )
but when i use 4g it isnt grey
so for me it seems to be a internet speed problem. what is sad cause i have unlimited internet on my 3g network.
im using a macbook ive tried reinstall of eve and repair none of these where working.
still looking for a fix of this |

What you (and others) have described...I'm having the SAME problem.
It started after the latest patch, where the client downloads EVE updates in pieces.
Yes, I followed the instructions and told the Launcher to download the entire update (clicked that checkbox), and yes, it's running as Administrator.
Today, I had to wait 20-25 minutes for the Launcher to slowly ready itself.
I've played EVE for years, never had this problem.
For me, the latest Launcher was a big step BACKWARD. I don't like it.  |

An occasional workaround with positive results on the Grey Button/Bar of ForeverWait...
Change the language on the Launcher to one that's not the usual, then back to say, English. Sometimes this will jumpstart it into finishing to load and allow a login.
No guarantees mind you, but an occasional temporary fix.

Memo!: Sometimes you have to keep the mouse cursor over the Launch window for Anything to update, recheck, etc. So if the language switch does help you, keep that pointer very close or it just might have you waiting multiple minutes anyways...

The credit for finding this specific workaround actually goes to a pilot named Hegh Batlh.
I'm just the one that keeps passing it out, it was 'her' find for a temp fix on the Grey Bar/Button of EverWait.
I found it in a thread that's about to get bumped off the first page here due to the sheer number of Launcher issues cropping up and are not getting (so far) any official responses on this section of the forums.
So far for the last 5-8 days of Launcher based compliants: (some are mine, some from other threads therefore other players)
1. Grey Bar/Button of EverWait.
2. Checking shared resources cache loop of every login.
3. Unable to login due to Launcher just plain kludging out.
4. The occasional suicidal Launcher that eats and deletes itself from the HDD/SSD.
5. Launcher updating with putting an out of date (therefore broken with current client) repair.exe in place of current 'working' (hahahahaaaa! repair.exe tool.
6. Download on Demand setting to full download is no guarantee of getting full download.
7. Verification additional steps having it's own set of headaches for some players.
If anyone has additional Launcher based bugs, glitches, headaches, rage and despair, welcome to the club and list them. Might be time to consolidate this into 1-2 threads instead of it eating nearly all on first page. I put some of mine in the Launcher Sticky but considering the sheer number of pages on that thread, probably was a partial waste of finger stamina.

Same exact issue. Yesterday I "only" had the "checking cache"-loop bug. But right now it says "creating patch" but does nothing, just sits at 0.0%.
Update, after waiting 1-2 mins it started updating. Now it's ready with the play button. |

CCP Nestor, CCP Mechanic and I are aware of this issue and are actively hunting it down. We have deployed a patch to the Singularity server and are looking for feedback. As we have been unable to reproduce this issue in-house, we are dependent on you for the final word on whether the fix is working!
Because your launcher cannot update, you can't use the launcher to get the patch, so you'll need to download a new version of the launcher by following these steps:
1. Download the new launcher from: http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/beta/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_883045.exe
2. Delete your launcher folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher) 3. Install the new version of the launcher 4. Point it at singularity by following these instructions: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/How_to_connect_to_the_test_server#Step_2_-_Creating_a_shortcut
If this solves the problem for you, you may also use this version of the launcher to connect to TQ. It will warn you that you have a pre-release launcher, but you can just click ok and log in.
Please let us know the results!
Should you run into problems with this, you may restore to the current TQ version of the launcher by following the instructions on this page:

I just tried.
First try did nothing new, then i closed the launcher and started again and it worked perfectly.
I came grumpy, I leave happy, Devs Fixed it for me !

I would try this but I can't download anything from YOUR server. I get 150 mb/s going to any other server on the damn planet, but I get f&$k from yours.

Installed launcher and tried it without doing anything and nothing happened. Made shortcut to sisi and it patched fine, so I changed Singularity in shortcut to Tranquility and it also patched and loaded in to game fine. |

I cannot seem to download anything from your server.

This whole game is just going straight in the pooper.
Am I missing something that prevents me from downloading ANYTHING from your servers?
There seems to be alot of talk about MEDIACOM service provider.
Is anything being done to investigate any connectivity problems with MEDIACOM? |

Once I figure out HOW to login to Sisi, I'll update if this fix is working for me then. The instructions are reading, for me, as backwards upside down Classical Greek, but then again I'm a computer hardware jockey, not a software guru. If anything this is teaching me one of the reasons the number that login to Sisi are so low for quality testing before a mini-expansion... Not very end user friendly to those of us that don't speak software shorthand. Counterintuitive, but hey, what do I know about programming?

Now gimme a tote of hardware parts, a case, and all the needed connections, and I'll whomp up a nice desktop. Just don't ask for software beyond "Install, Update, Restart" okies?

I feel your pain. We don't have a next-next-done installer for the mac version of the launcher, it's not as easy to package and deploy a beta version for mac as it is for windows. However, I can provide you with the mac launcher files and a process to manually patch.
Before you start, you should be aware that this is very much an "on your own head be it" procedure. You'll need a certain amount of technical knowhow to follow this, as the version numbers listed in the process may have changed.
Use this download package in place of step 1 in the reinstalling the launcher process.
Use the process as written on the zendesk page to restore if it all goes pineapple shaped. Let me know how it goes? |

If you are unable to download anything from the CDN you could try using Google public DNS to see if you get a different connection route to the CDN that allows you to download. You an find instructions on how to do that here:

If you have a security application installed on your computer with a web filtering feature you may need to white list cdn1.eveonline.com. |

Attempts 5-6(from apps folder): http://imgur.com/XlNmqhV - pressing the orange, textless button had no effect.
After waiting attempt six, the log in text appeared, but in a serif font. Currently showing a..... grey play button, with creating patch 0.0%. Activity Monitor shows about a 936 Kb of traffic, so it's not doing anything.
Using Prerelease.
EDIT: Left it open at attempt six currently been showing, for 30 seconds, "Creating Patch, 0.0%". |

The 884420.exe launcher worked perfect for me Deleted the launcher map and after the DL it started straight up with validating and checking cache got a ~200mb patch and game is running.
I was stuck on a grey bar since mosiac with launcher 878305 |

884420 the next startup i did gave me a warning about the pre launcher with an exeption and the option to "ok" or "start eve" with "ok" doing nothing and "start eve" doing the exefile start

I have a support ticket up and have submitted my launcher log file as requested.
I tried to download the new launcher linked above but the download stopped at 1.4mb. I stand by what I said weeks ago on the forums, this is definitely some type of network issue. I wonder how many of us are A) living in the US, and B) having our internet hijacked and filtered by the NSA.
Partially joking, I'm sure, one of those two ultimatums probably isn't accurate...humor aside though, I really want to play my characters. I've not been able to play consistently for about 10 weeks now.
Edit: After a review I posted about this in February--so a fix is due, if not some sort of game-time credit at this point. I would never let a utility company extort me so thoroughly, but I like this game and CCP.
I'm pulling for CCP Mechanic to save the day. Be my hero you beautiful man - and please have a mustache, heroes need mustaches. |

I think I just had that problem with the gray play button, too. I started the laucher (v.2.2.878305), it didn't checked the resource chache or anything else.
I solved the problem with changing the langage settings from English to another language and the back to English. This might be worth a try for people who have the same problem. |

As my launcher won't work in my mobile ISP's private network, i had to escape it using VPN (Free VPN provider). I'm using cyberghost, launcher works well with it. But You'll have to use exefile to play as most of free VPN providers restrict ports usage.
Just a workaround if you have to perform update...
You may look toward your ISP, sometimes they do some tricky ****... |

hi, this "greyed out" launcher thingi is a very old and well known issue. since this stupid launcher was born. had this issue before years with winxp, then with win7, now with linux...
there are a lots of post here about it... it have nothing to do with the hardware or the os. its the launcher itself!
i had learn to live with it. about min. 2-3 launcher restarts are normaly to run the game.

Entered the game via the launcher on the 7th June GÇô all working fine.
Tried to enter the game on the 9th and nothing. Launcher loads, I can log in and then it just sits there with a greyed out play button and no movement in the bottom horizontal bar.
I have downloaded the launcher again as linked in this thread GÇô no change. I have set it to download all resources and again GÇô no change.
I can get in through the exe file but for how long this will last I don't know.

The grey play button happens to me whenever I am mobile and using a cell phone tether. On cable/ethernet, works fine. I imagine it is either a speed problem or a protocol problem. It might be that it thinks I'm logging in from a different ip. I can always fix it (get the play button to work) by re-importing EVE_Online_Launcher-2.2.878305.win32.from-2.2.878019.patch I have no idea why that works, but I have to use it every day |

Don't know if this will help anyone but what I do is make sure the launcher has the focus by moving my mouse. It seems that unless the launcher gets a refresh message from windows it will seem as it is doing nothing. I believe that the language change workaround is also causing a refresh message to be sent to the OS. Works for me on SISI and Tranq. the status message at bottom of launcher seems to get stuck unless you "force" an update from windows.

I had this issue and was able to get the game open through the launcher by changing the language to french, closing the launcher, running it again, then changing it back to english. I am using windows 8, and always run the launcher as admin. |

896719, the current live TQ version, contains the fix that was being tested in the sisi versions listed in this thread. All people who had success with launcher 844420 should allow their launcher to update to this version.

Ok, last night I logged in AFTER manually downloading and updating the client, what the problem is; the Resource Cache which was introduced awhile back is the issue, thus preventing the client to update properly. As far as I can tell it is NOT communicating between client and server to update the cache what so ever.

This morning I started the launcher and went away for 30 minutes while the update took place. However thing did not work out.
After 30 minutes, I had the same problem as described above. Greyed out PLAY button and progress bar stuck at 0% and not going anywhere.
I then switched the language to French and immediately got the EULA (or some legal nonesense) dialog. I accepted and the PLAY button became blue and the progress bar was already at 100%. All good to go. This seems to indicate the update did actually took place and it was just a refresh issue on the launcher's part. I then moved the language to English and got the same legal dialog again (really CCP?). Play button was still blue and ready to go and progress bar was at 100%. Hope it helps. |

also I have this issue with the out-greyed play button, when I get this far. sometimes the launcher just shows half of its content and freezes. many times I need to force quit now. Reinstall doesn't fix it for me. only thing help is to delete the Eve Online folder in $user/Library'Application Support - helped until I played with each of my accounts once. Again, tried all hints, back&forwards in every language, delete/reinstall. Nope. I deleted that folder again. Works. Probably it's just one file in there ****** up. I lose my game settiings though. Sucks.
So far I guess it's not my job to find what's wrong with the new patch, aight.

How many people have tried to download the game and play it but haven't even been able to get into the game because of this issue?
I've spent the last 2 hours downloading patches with the launcher to no avail. I had to resort to using the repair tool and then copy over the resource cache from my backups to the shared cache folder since the repair tool (and apparently some patches) deletes it. I've already unsubbed 4 accounts, I'll unsub the last 2 when I find something better to play. CCP is either unable or unwilling to address this issue. CCP can go on believing that their players actually want daily patches and hundreds of gigabytes a month in downloads while their playerbase shrivels up.

For every patch you do have a greater issue than gray button in the launcher:
For every patch the launcher do a error pop-up saying that the launcher.exe can't access the files and instruct me to close my Steam application. You have some issue with a collision with the Steam engine. I don't have EVE installed through Steam and the files aren't in the Steam folder. Therefore shouldn't Eve care about if the Steam application is online or not. You do however have Eve in Steam as a alternative installation and I think you have done something that compromise the Eve launcher. |

I have had this many times myself, all I do to fix it is place my mouse pointer on the launcher somewhere and let it sit and the launcher starts its download of any patch or just allows the play button to be useable.

POSSIBLE FIX:
clear your DNS cache. at the end of each line, press ENTER start type: run type: cmd type: ipconfig /flushdns
it will say its flushed poop away and is ready to rumble. try the launcher again.
if that fails, try changing your DNS servers in your network card settings.

Cleaning DNS cache does not help for me. The only solution that helps me it's download new EVE Online installer and reinstall the game. After that launcher again start to work until the next patch is released.

I have just re-installed my O.S (Windows 8 ) Yes I know its S@IT...
Anyway I have Installed Eve and Opened the Launcher Sometimes it will not update and others it will start but is very slow always stops when it gets to 1.16 MB -- 0.7%
"Downloading updates 1.16 MB / 294.53 MB 0.7%? "
I have Tried the Repair tool
Power off PC/ROUTER
Again Tired the Repair tool
Done the Back and Forward god knows how many times
None of the Above is working?
Game and Launcher where running fine before the Re-install.
Any help would be great...
