Your right :-( so they still get 60% increase, but still some good news, their dammage is reduced by 25% :-)
Also good news, Hybrid Iron is now +60% so we both ahve a 60% range :-) before it was so pathetic it wasn't even funny. Radio was the only item ing ame that had +60%, but thanks to TomB we are saved and are more balanced now. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

Am I the only one wondering what railguns with a range of 35km+ are good for? I know it keeps u save in pvp and pvm but seriously, at that range ure practicly crippled, since u cant scramble ur enemy nor webbify ur opponent. Its just like u warp in, target him, fire a single shot and thats it, he warps away. If u really want ppl to fight at long range u should introduce modules (besides EW) which are capable operating at 35km+ ranges.

Yeah introduce warp scramble missiles, then i can use all 6 med slots to shield tank :)

i tested a megathron with 6x heavy neutron blasters with some damage modules, using antimatter ammo.
could deal ~300 damage per gun per shot (5secs), but using a MWD to get to the target, and a webber to slow them down enough to hit is a must.
they are truly very powerful weapons, but tough to use on fast targets. Good trade-off, i think :) ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

cornellius use your head man, thats why you dont fly aroun by yourself if you are going to do that, thats why you have a friend or 2 or 10 who will stay at a closer range and keep that stuff on while you give them support from a distance.

There will not be more changes to hybrids for this patch, truly sorry but there are now bigger matters that I must attend to (targeting speed, jump in points, warping, camping etc.).
I will unstick this thread and open a new one in the future, if more tuning will be needed.

Hopefully the changes that get implemented balance them out.. other wise I'm willing to bet that nobody will pick up hybrids. It's a shame that they have been partially balanced then put aside to start work on balncing other items.
Granted, I think fixing the JIP issue is more important issue. I just hope that hybrid's are not forgotten about as they seem to have been since launch.

The changes planned for hybrids were completely nullified by the other changes anyway.

Upping the damage and lowering the RoF... it still do the same ammount of damage. So what was the point?

They use less energy per second and use ammo more efficiently.

Ya, thats really nice... if combat used to take 5+ minutes. But while combat lasts 30 to 60 seconds, it won't matter much, afterall, we are talking abour a .25 increase. _______________________________________________

It's shame that so much time was spent on balancing these guns and now the work needs to be started all over again.
Looks like it's off to lasers for me. _________________________________________________

with rail guns why not inlude some shield penetrating properties that increase the chance that damage will penetrate the targets shield, while also giving a chance (possibly related to a skill to cause damage to a system on the ship)

this thread is more than 2 months old, and pre-castor, what's the point in re-awakening it ? and for shield penetration there is another thread about it...

Edited by: Paddyman on 27/01/2004 19:39:48 i do agree old posts should not be brought up but below quoted below is straight from tomb's initial post.
Quote: Railguns will not get much update since we are still looking into changing how players can get into more long range combat.
Quote: railguns won't be fully useable in long range combat until warping into a scene gets another look at, ETA for this is uncertain at the moment
We kind off have this now so maybe tomb should have another look at Railguns like he said he'd be doing.
