Now that the run up to the next tournament is in full swing, and since alot of people tuned into watch fanfest coverage, what would you like to see on the next tournament broadcast?
I'm after ideas, and suggestions on ways to make it the best it can be before we go live!
So, I throw down the gauntlet and opent he table to you all.

This we might be able to do, although being a teen rated game there might be excessive use of censoring!

Unfortunately Stavros will not be present at this tournament. Rumour has it he's updating the Oxford English dictionary on their use of capital letters.

roflcopterz. Can i put that quote in my bio?
Also, are you the one that makes the decisions on exactly what goes into the next alliance tourny? If so... that's amazing that you have gotten so few serious replies...
but here are a few ideas:
1 -- Possible ship setups via a kind of "fittings" screen. 2 -- Ship attributes displayed and discussed in more detail w/ bonuses too. 3 -- Portraits and character names displaying who is fighting (if participants agree). 4 -- Detailed stats on who has gotten the most kills/losses. 5 -- A countdown timer before the match begins... to build tension. 6 -- Commentary from those fighting and their explanations of what went right/wrong.
Also, as an after thought if you needed to raise a little money in game you could sell commercial slots. __________________________________________ -=White Nova=- Carebears With Teeth |

Wow. Well, I already get Loxy's FF video of MC awesomeness, and I get Farjung, AND I get to see ships explode.
I'll have a Coke, then.
Seriously, though, what are the prospects of getting prominent EVE folks on TS/Vent interviews for EVE TV? For those of us familiar with Monday Night Football, perhaps let each alliance's team leader introduce their pilots with suitable dramatic music in the background, and then have post-game discussions (maybe just in the elim rounds).

Interviews and that stuff is cool... Farjung and Jamesw go out to 0.0 and kill random npcers live. so maybe they are watching eve tv and then they notice they're being killed on eve tv :o

I'm the lead expert and PR guru for EVETV and I'm trying to make it the best it can be before we start broadcasting and people start suggesting ways to improve. By having ideas ahead of time, from the public, we can try and integrate what we can.
Your ideas for gaining more information on the ships sound good, so I'll see what we can do. My main concern is finding the time to show all this information. With the prefight briefing in the studio, to the hand off to the commentators, there sin't alot of time between fights (assuming everyone turns up for them this time) to give a detailed brekadown.
I agree however that something similar to a professional sports broadcast would be good. Perhaps some form of statistics overlay to show how many fights won/lost, ships killed/lost, etc.
As for the commercial slots, I'm always after isk since Stavros got his free carrier last time round, so if peopel want me to coin a catch phrase I'm open to bribes

I said this before, it would either be really funny.. Or not so funny and a total mess :|
EVE TV Pop Idol
8 of either devs, gms, isd, directors, players.. All record them singing a song.
Day 3 of fanfest shows these peoples recorded songs.
Day 7 reveals the winner.
This means it only takes up 2 episodes about about.. 20minutes on one episode and 10minutes on the other.
Winner would be chosen by creating a poll and the evetv viewers voting.
Winner recieves a crate of beer.

How about making it the best you can for the many of us that are unable to watch the whole thing live? Like putting each fight on torrent asap after the match?

AFAIK this has been considered. As it stands there are several community members who upload them in various places. http://www.eve-files.com/evetv/ was the repository for them last time.
But I concede the point that an official CCP endorsed torrent would be better.

Statistics before a fight and a chat about the players actually competing within each team to give the viewers an idea on some of the personalities involved.
People are joking about boobies and goodies but I'm pretty sure some female flesh would boost your ratings. A female pre-match interviewer to capture the feelings of the team members ?
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak.

this isnt really content related but,
anyway to make the resolution of the in-game feed better? I had a hard time seeing what was going on last time.
also, I love the idea of doing interviews with the participants over TS/vent or something, similar to how you see sports shows doing post game interviews with the football stars after they score a winning touchdown :P
I think that would add a whole new dynamic to the broadcats and really involve everyone in whats happening in the tournement instead of feeling like your looking in from the outside.

I'd like to see some of the storyline stuff. I hear about it and its a rare occasion to be insystem at the same time something is going on (and usually then its difficult to determine where the stuff is happening)(that or the greenguys are talking in system about something going on in another system).
Anyway, if its logistically possible...storyline stuff.

For me the most important thing is to have better briefings. The one thing that let you guys down last time was when you were looking for questions on the laptop, and the painful time wasted as the host had to dig through lots of comments to find a decent question.
What would work better is having a separate person off camera to handle all of the incoming questions. They could then screen the good ones and relay them to the host. That way when the host needs a question they will have a shorter list that is a lot more accessible.
The other addition I would make is to have crib sheets for the experts. Even if they already know 99% of the stuff, it's amazing when your mind will just go blank, or there will be a small gap in your knowledge. Profiles and bonuses of common ship types can be listed and the experts can read up on these during the battle (or when another expert is talking) as a reminder, so that when it cuts back to the analysis they can provide more detailed answers.
As this is an alliance PvP tournament it would be nice to hear a bit more about the alliances as well. Although it should not be the focus it can help round out the background of the tournament, and add a little more flavour. For example in the last tournament there was a tasty fight between -V- and RA, that was a bit more edgy because these two alliances are long term enemies. It's like a Spurs vs Arsenal or Liverpool vs Everton footy match - effectively a local Great Wildlands derby. Again info like this can be put on a crib sheet, maybe with someone who knows a lot about alliances briefing the host on the more interesting matchups.
Great job last time - looking forward to the next one! :)

Good idea - I don't see any reason why we can't do it this time around

They had this - I put together an entire excel sheet of ALL the ships last time.

This is being worked on now - We have a team of people attempting to put this together. Not an easy task by any means. The point of contact for this right now is Mebrithiel Ju'Wien.

Well, some more research on the alliances taking part would be nice. It seems that any alliance based in the North was an unknown to all the people on air.
Alliances like Morsus Mihi and Chorus Of Dawn were met by blank faces, and I imagine the same will be for Razor Alliance and some other Northern alliances this time.

The main problem with knowing about alliances is due to the sheer number of them. I asked RollinDutchMasters who informed me that as of a few months ago, there were over 150 ingame alliances. Now, even though only 40 took part in the previous tournament, given the sheer numbers available its not really possible, unless you dedictate a role to it, to know something about everyone.
This is what happened last time. Additionally, who do you go to for alliance information? Their enemies? They will tell you their truth. The members of the alliance? They will tell you their view from the bottom up. The official diplomatic contact? They'll give you a diluted version of what really goes on. As it stands the official contacts would be the most likely to tell you something, but it requires that you research every alliance and find a point of contact. As it was, and I freely admit, we didn't know alot about several alliances. We tried embellishing the truth with the LARPing comments towards Morsus Mihi and such, but in the end your knowledge sometimes isn't enough.
To prevent this Mebrithiel Ju'wien was brought on board to act as an alliance liason prior to the tournament. I haven't spoken to Meb, but I'm hoping that all the alliances taking part have spoken or at least attempted to make formal contact, in an effort to make themselves known.
You take what is offered. And that must sometimes be enough. |
