EDIT: must add that i love the background space effects on some pictures though, especially earth rise.
What side of the graphics looks bad? Planets? Nebulae? Models? The models look good but we need more texture people.
Originally by: Donna Darko Edited by: Donna Darko on 13/11/2006 17:07:17 The pictures are nice, but I fear that quality will most likely come with a huge computing need (CPU and GPU). Which in turn kinda makes you wonder what will happen when you have more than 1 ship on screen.
Also, this kinda made me go "Yeah, OK":
Originally by: Infinity Infinity is a massively multiplayer online game set in a futuristic persistent universe. Players can discover a huge galaxy with billions of planets and can explore, fight, trade, socialize.. the possibilities are endless!
Combine the words billions with the quality of the pictures and I forsee 5 DVDs to install the **** game (unless they have only a few pictures repeated for all the planets). God forbid I think of a graphics update patch.
Then I looked at the Features page, and understood the "billions of planets" comment and also saw it's going to be a "shoot'em up". Did anyone play Neocron? If you lag, you will never hit anything.
*edit* What the hell do you mean graphics are bad? Are we looking at the same screenshots? Admittedly ships don't look all that hot, but then we look at EVE sometimes and...
I had 8 highpoly capital ships and 12 smaller craft and a lot of lasers on screen and it still ran smooth on my crappy outdated pc. It runs so much better than EVE.
The universe is procedurally generated. Everything is defined with just a small string and then the generator spits out a unique planet/nebula/city.
During the combat proto tests with around 20 people. I never really had a problem with lag.

Ummmm... No.
1. Those are not "Screenshots" they are renders. The engine isn't even close to being done.
2. Last time I looked into the game, it was being produced by a SINGLE person.
"The game is currently in early development, and no playable version has been released yet. Estimated time before first playable release: 1 to 2 years (in best case)."
That's what it said 2yrs ago. Nothing on the site is changed since.
My Prediction: There will never be an Infinity Online.
There is a screenshot thread on the general forums showing the new combat prototype.
Flavien is the main guy, but there are quite a few people contributing models, textures and music.
